Ollie heads off to a monastery to find himself, and instead finds Connor Hawke, who is, unbeknownst to him, his son. Ollie and Connor end up leaving the monastery together.
Kelley Puckett is a comic book writer. He is the creator of the character Cassandra Cain, the Batgirl who succeeded Barbara Gordon and who was succeeded herself by Stephanie Brown, as well as the second Green Arrow, Connor Hawke.
Jesus Christ, Kelley Puckett absolutely crushes it. I've loved his Batgirl work, and reading Green Arrow #0 only cements that this guy knows how to write dialogue. It's smooth, engaging, and a joy to read. In this issue, Oliver is stepping away from his life as a "hero" and retreats to find peace. But when he meets his son – who has no idea he's his father – he ends up teaching him how to use an arrow, despite not wanting to return to the hero life. However, when trouble comes knocking, Oliver refuses to back down, driven by his need to protect others. The character work is fantastic, and the art is solid throughout. Overall, definitely worth the read for Connor's introduction alone!
Getting rid of the beard was too much… then he went bald. I guess Ollie has lost himself again, right after finding himself in “Crossroads”. I assume this has something to do with Zero Hour but its still a jarring 180 from the last few issues. We are introduced to Connor, who we all know now, especially since the blurb on Comic Geeks call him his son, though Ollie and the audience DONT EVEN LEARN THIS in this issue. Anyways, it is a cool introduction to Connor Hawke and interesting start of a new story.
This is my absolutely first introduction to this character, and I think he's interesting but I also think the art in this can be sort of confusing, especially with action.
