Book Two of Two in the Valentine Duology. ______________________
Will she sacrifice her cape to wear his collar?
Jory. The girl. He wants to steal her. He needs to possess her. His mind and body burns for her.
Valentine. The creepy man with the wicked black eyes. She doesn’t want to want him, but she's given no choice. The dominant jerk whose kinks ignite her own, threatening to steal her life's purpose and leave her groveling at his feet.
She uses her powers to become a selfless hero. He uses his powers to become a selfish mercenary.
Atypical Aphrodisia means they can’t walk away from the lust they share. War threatens to wrench them apart. Their obsession with each other might destroy them. ______________ WARNING: This book is an angsty dark romance that contains elements of BDSM, as well as potential triggers. If bisexuality and/or group sex scenes offend you, this is not the book for you.
Sorcha Black writes kink romance, both alone and co-written under the name Sparrow Beckett. When she's not writing, she's generally avoiding housework and planning her next tattoo. Sorcha lives in Canada with her husband and their horde of witty children.
"He loved her and she loved him, but they were a disaster."
I thought I knew where the story was going at the end of the previous book, turns out I was completely wrong.
This was another great read. I love Jory and Valentine and their coterie of "Atypical" friends. This book has action and feels (and one of the hottest sex scenes I've ever read...)
Very highly recommended
“Holy crap,” Amy whispered. “I can’t decide whether I’m terrified or turned on.” Jory barked a laugh. “Welcome to Joryland.”
I was reading this second book actually worried for Sorcha’s frame of mind while she was writing it. It is so graphic and descriptive I couldn’t put it down. I would say if your a die hard dark lover this is for you. I absolutely loved it. I need more stars though.
As with the first book, I loved the couple's love story. I liked that the lack of communication and too-fast progression of their relationship caused by the Aphrodisia is something the characters actually struggle with.
!!!SPOILER ALERT!!!
The only thing I don't like is that despite the promises at the beginning of the first book, we end up back in black-and-white territory as the war progresses. They have all these conversations about thinking for yourself and whether anyone is truly good or evil. But in the end, we just kind of flip the roles instead of questioning them altogether.
The Bureau under Wick are the bad guys, the peacekeepers, which ends up being almost synonymous with mercenaries, are the reasonable ones. The heroes all have to pick a side. I would have liked to have some more conflicted characters and deeper conversations. For example, a few heroes that believe in the Bureau as an institution and the concept of surveying mercenaries closely but disagree with the more extreme policies. Or some mercenaries that or MCs are close to that don't join the peacekeepers and instead are willing to use violence to defend their right to govern themselves and answer to no-one but their own code of ethics. Instead, most gray characters (eg. Valentine's dad and Ridlon) ended up either clearly on one side or dead.

This is the beyond dark and hot follow up to Valentine. Valentine takes a darker turn because of Jory and her indecisiveness. I found this book to be about the evolution of Jory as she accepts that her view of heroes and the bureau was based on propaganda, and how to respect her sexual choices. This book pulled an array of emotions from me from anger, frustration, sadness, to happiness. D/s and other sexual relationships are taken to another level, chapter 19 is the hottest and best foursome I have ever read. This was a more than satisfying conclusion.
Would definitely recommend reading this book, especially if you like d/s and Mm, although there isn't much Mm mor hinted at than actual scenes. It has it dark moments but it's lighten with moment of love and humour. The ending did feel rushed but the war was kind of a background story so it didn't matter to much. I hope the author does a follow up book a few years down the line, would be interesting to see how the relationship progress between Dane, Juergen, Valentine and Jory.
I dont usually write reviews but I need to for this one. I think the bad reviews are from people that are not into kink.... which is FINE :)
BUT the way the author explains the feelings and emotions and urges of these characters was so amazing! Even if I was shocked, I still understood why she would let him do those things to her just bc of how well it was written I've! & that was HOT 😆😁 I've only ever been slightly curious abt BDSM so I wasn't sure about this story but I loved it and just gotta tell ppl not to give a bad review just bc its not your type of kink 😘
I unfortunately couldn't finish this one - I just got so frustrated by the back and forth and round in circles.
**Note this is my personal opinion based on my personal preferences and shouldn't stop you from reading this book - a lot of other people seem to love it. **
2.5⭐️ This book was actually a disappointment compared to the first one which was a solid 4.5⭐️. I just felt like there was so much about the war and not the dynamic between the MMC and FMC. Only really enjoyed the last 150 pages maybe.
This series is seriously like Professor X's school for BDSM on crack. Add in poly relationships with a side of mutant war and you get the idea. Better than the first book.
