About the author

Ada Jafri is a Pakistani poet who is regarded as the first major Urdu female poet and had been called "The First Lady of Urdu Poetry".
Her poetry is full of politeness of expression. She combined both old and new traditions of Urdu poetry in a unique artistic way. Jazib Qureshi said: "...Ada Jafri is the first and only lady poet who carries in her poetry the eternal colours of Ghalib, Iqbal, and Jigar..."
She had received awards from Pakistan Writers' Guild, Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL), the Government of Pakistan and literary societies of North America and Europe in recognition of her efforts.
She was given the highest literary award of Pakistan Kamal-e Fun Award by Pakistan Academy of Letters in 2003.

یہ فخر تو حاصل ہے، برے ہیں کہ بھلے ہیں
دو چار قدم ہم بھی ترے ساتھ چلے ہیں

نازک تھے کہیں رنگِ گل و بوۓ سمن سے
جذبات کہ آداب کے سانچے میں ڈھلے ہیں

تھے کتنے ستارے کہ سرِشام ہی ڈوبے
ہنگامِ سحر کتنے ہی خورشید ڈھلے ہیں

جو جھیل گئے ہنس کے کڑی دھوپ کے تیور
تاروں کی خنک چھاؤں میں وہ لوگ جلے ہیں

اِک شمع بجھائی تو کئ اور جلا لیں
ہم گردشِ دوراں سے بڑی چال چلے ہیں

میں کہ تقدیسِ وفا، عفت و ناموس حیات
میرے انفاس سے روشن ہوا فانوس حیات

حرف آغاز بھی میں، نقطۂ انجام بھی میں
کل کی اُمید بھی میں، آج کا پیغام بھی میں


میں کسی خواب دل آویز کی تشکیل نہ تھی
جذبہ لذت تخلیق کی تکمیل نہ تھی
