Minnesota Ice #1

Delivery Girl

Rate this book
Good things come in extra-large, smoking hot packages.

Things like pizza.

The very pizzas that I deliver for my dad’s restaurant, Peretti’s Pizza. It’s a temporary job, something to pay the bills until I graduate from school, but it does the trick. In fact, it's working quite well until Ryan Pierce of the LA Lightning decides to order a pizza from me, and life as I know it turns upside down.

You see, Ryan Pierce doesn’t just open his front door. He opens it buck naked. And suddenly, I’m not the one boasting the biggest, hottest package in the room. However, it’s what happens next that makes my stomach flip upside down whenever my phone beeps. Ryan starts to call, and then text, and then fifteen pizza deliveries and one hot-as-sin kiss later, we’re friends.

So when he asks me to be his fake girlfriend at his brother’s wedding, I’m happy to help. But the longer we pretend, the more I worry that this is one package I might not be able to handle.

Dear. Author,
Please be aware that I’m in the minority here. You can write and you can write well. You have done something utterly unique with your style. It’s funny. This is a major case of it is ME and not YOU.
Best wishes
Kate

To my review
Andi is working as the delivery girl for her father’s pizza parlor once she has finished her accounting degree. Andie doesn’t want to be an accountant though. She wants something different. What she really wants is to be a comedienne. Whenever she can she goes to gigs to practice her material and she is good. And with a little help she is going places.
Ryan plays for the Minnesota hockey team but wants to transfer out to LA so is trying to get in with a new agent to get him started in LA. But after ordering a smiley pizza he is smitten with the delivery girl. He can’t help but not fall for the delivery girl.
I liked the MC individually. Put them together and I was kind of indifferent. I just didn’t feel a connection. Ryan tried too hard and invested too much in the beginning of the relationship and Andi didn’t do enough in my opinion.
And dude I don’t know you just didn’t ask her out instead of ordering all that pizza but then I guess it wouldn’t have had the fun factor which helped the book along I mean how else are they meant to see each other again?
This is just me and I have a strong dislike for MC who talk crap about only being friends and yet they have feelings for one another. Being so indecisive drives me bonkers. It was a push and pull that ruined the book for me.
It’s funny in all the right places yet I was still missing something. I think a proper connection between the two characters and maybe I’m just too old for the NA genre? Because it had a very strong NA feel to it.
I found it extremely tough to review this book. I’ve come to realize that I’m not the romantic comedy kind of gal. There is the rare occasion that it does occur as Alanis Morissette out it when there are ten thousand spoons but all you need is a knife.

***4 ‘Smiley Face Pizzas’ Stars***

When you read the description to a book and you start to smile before you’re even done reading, it’s a pretty good sign that you should give that book a try and see what happens and that’s just what I did and thoroughly enjoyed it. Delivery Girl is a fun, sexy RomCom that’s light on the drama but filled with a lot of heart and characters that you’ll laugh with, and at, all while falling in love with them.

Andi is working at her father’s pizza parlor while she is finishing up college and working on making her dream career become a reality. She’s sweet, funny, has a self deprecating sense of humor and is a hard worker. She’s also a bit spastic and lets her mind run away from her at times, which leads her totally bypass her edit button and blurt things out without realizing it, but that little quirk made her all the more loveable even when I was shaking my head at the things she’d freak out about.

Ryan is a rising hockey star at a crossroads in his career and is looking to make a deal that could take him to the next level. Ryan is just that good guy that you want to take home to meet the parents, who just happens to be smexy as hell. He’s sweet, funny, extremely determined and has that alpha male vibe and charisma in spades.

Andi and Ryan’s journey to their HEA was filled with lots of laughter and swoon worthy moments. While things between them do happen quickly, and are moved forward by some interesting means, there is that spark, that connection between them that makes it work. They are both fascinated by the other and find that they have more in common than they knew. What I loved most about their relationship is that even when they danced around the fact that they were falling in love with each other, they didn’t hide their attraction to each other or the fact that they really did like each other as friends and wanted more time together. The bumps in the road were realistic, one I wanted to bitch slap, but I loved how they figured everything out in the end.

The writing was engaging, the story was well paced and the dual 1st person POV was well done. The characters were all well written and I loved how each had their own quirks and personalities. Although this falls under sports romance, there isn’t any hockey playing in it, more the stuff that goes on off the ice, but it didn’t take away from the story at all because what Ryan and Andi got up to on their own totally made up for it. This is the author’s debut novel and I thought she did a wonderful job with it and I’m looking forward to seeing what she has in store for in the future!

I had DELIVERY GIRL on my TBR list for six months before I finally got around to reading it. With all the positive reviews, along with the great sounding synopsis and it being about a hockey player, I thought it was a shoe-in for being a great read. Unfortunately, I really struggled with this book. It took me three days to read it and several times I considered not finishing it, but ultimately I kept going in the hopes it would get better. For me, it did not.

Firstly, I can’t remember anything personal about Ryan and Andi, and I didn’t feel any chemistry between them. What I do remember is that they spent almost the entire story trying to figure out their relationship. Is it just friendship? Is it friendship with benefits? Is it a relationship? If so, can it work? Is it real? Is it fake? The status of their relationship was brought up by both parties in almost every chapter, and that kind of repetitive thinking quickly became irritating.

Secondly, I thought it was odd that Andi knew who Ryan was before she met him, knew that he was a famous hockey player who is predicted to become very big in the NHL, yet she knew nothing about the game, going so far as to call the puck a “little black thingy”. If the man stars in your fantasies, you’d be watching his games just to see more of him and would therefore quickly learn a lot about the game.

Thirdly, why would an up-and-coming player, one without a history of bad behavior, have to beg for a new agent and a new team? If he’s really that good and has great potential, agents and teams would be knocking down his door to get him.

Finally, the agent’s behavior bothered me greatly. What kind of agent prefers their clients to be manwhores over being in committed relationships? What kind of agent threatens a potential (yes, potential) client with ruination if he doesn’t break up with his girlfriend before signing with them? The agent gets the next book in the series, but I disliked her so much that even if I loved this book, I’d have no desire to read her story.

DELIVERY GIRL is told in dual POVs and comes with a nice HEA for Ryan and Andi. The story takes place during the off season, so if you’re after some hockey action, you won’t find it here. I know my complaints may seem minor, petty and too technical to some people, but when they affect my overall enjoyment of the story, I can’t help but fixate on them. It pains me to give a bad review, especially to a debut author, but going by all the positive reviews on Amazon and Goodreads, I’m clearly in the minority with my opinions.

Cute read about a hockey player from MN who falls for a pizza delivery girl in LA. I was in the mood for a light, fun read which this story delivered. I also thought Delivery Girl was a good debut novel for Lily Kate.

There wasn't anything horribly wrong with this book, it just hovered around the tolerable side of things. In other words, my emotions were as stable as if I was sleeping.
For a sports romance with a hot hockey player, there was very little sports. It was mentioned he practised and all, but there was nothing to indicate he actually played other than the reader bring told so.

The romance developed ok, but a month gap between the h/H didn't work in the favour of development. They were apart for a whole month and we didn't get anything about how they felt during that time other than they'd stayed in touch daily? Not good.

Also, things just seemed to always happen in their favour... life, careers, love...it was too easy, too uncomplicated which made it very unbelievable. I'd contemplated DNF'ing a few times but pulled through hoping this would improve, though unfortunately it never did.
Anyways, I'm glad this was on Kindle unlimited and not an impulsive buy.

If you've read many of my reviews, you know I'm a fan of sports-related romance. Not much hockey being played in this game. A debuting author with a sexy and cute story to tell. The main characters are quirky - maybe a little too slapstick for my taste. Told from dual points of view helped a little in that regard because the pizza girl drove me bonkers. The hockey star doesn't really fit the usual persona, but hey, he wasn't bad!

So-so flirty, fun and sexy. I like a little more meat on my pizza to make it Supreme!

3.5 delivery girl stars

This was a pretty good little love story. I've honestly never read a plot like this one before. Hot hockey player falls for his pizza delivery girl. There are some moments that are meant to be funny, and they did make me chuckle, but this wasn't a LOL read by any means.

Both Andi and Ryan are looking to move forward in their careers. Andi as a comedian and Ryan to another hockey team that has better winning potential. That and the fact that normally they live in two different states stands in the way of them wanting anything more than someone to have fun with.

These two go through the ringer before anything actually happens between them. They grow a bit of a friendship, and then it turns into more. They can resist their feelings. Unfortunately things don't get much easier for them, and it's an interesting read from then on.

The only reason I took away stars is because at some points it did feel a bit repetitive. Also some of the dialogue didn't make sense. They would discuss something, and then the next chapter Andi would act like she had no idea what he was talking about even though they had just discussed it. Not a HUGE deal, it was nothing that affected the plot just general things, but it's something you notice when you read straight through. Also there are some naughty bits in this one, but they are absolutely NOT smutty. I still enjoyed them because they were sweet, but if you need smutty... you won't find it here.

All in all a good read. If you're looking for something that is MOSTLY light with some sweet moments and a bit of angst, this is it.

DNF. I really wanted to like this book but I just couldn't get into it. It felt like more of a YA than a contemporary adult novel. Andi is so naive and cutesy that she annoyed me straight away. It's a no from me.

A cute romantic comedy. Lots of funny places with enjoyable characters. Our heroine is truly funny. I used to have a pizza delivery girl that made jokes and made me laugh. I always tipped her well. (Just thought I'd throw that out there for anyone who might want to take up the proud job of delivery person. A good sense of humor goes a long way $) So our pizza delivery girl meets the hot hockey player in his buff. (My luck would have been the old craggy manager) He's smitten and orders more pizzas for him and his friends. Romance progresses into a happily ever after. (Just as it should)
Cute story. Lots of Romance. (Hubba hubba)

Can't thank Youtube enough for this recommendation. Yes, i do take advantage of audiobooks uploaded in the internet and this is one of them.

I am in the mood in reading contemporary books this summer to the extent that i don't even read much reviews about books. I just read them knowing that I am in the mood for one.

Good thing this one did not disappoint. the story line might be predictable but i love the characters' persona. Especially the female main character. She is an aspiring comedian and this is my first time reading a character like that. She is so funny and honest. The personalities that I would love to have in real life.

The supporting characters are icing on cake.

A highly recommended book.

I usually don't write a review for a book that I just finished. I like to sleep on it, review my notes, check my highlights and formulate a plan. But not with this review!! I couldn't wait to put words down to help release this excitement that I have for this book!!

Andi Peretti is the delivery girl for Peretti's Pizza, a family owned pizzeria in LA. She has dreams of being a comedienne, but if her dad has it his way, she'll be an accountant once she finishes her courses this semester. Andi is having a bit of a dry spell, so it's just her luck when she discovers a half naked hockey player on her latest delivery.

Ryan Pierce plays for the Minnesota Stars, but is crashing at his brother's house in LA in hopes of making connections to be transferred to play for the LA Lightning. Ryan is making big changes in his life and isn't needing the distraction that he finds on the other side of the door when his pizza is delivered. But Ryan can't help himself from calling Peretti's Pizza for another Smiley Face Pie just to see the perfect disaster that is the Delivery Girl.

I have to give it a few days before I call Peretti's again, otherwise I'll be in the stage-five-clinger zone.

Ryan isn't used to having to work for a girl, but Andi's not quite sure what Ryan's intentions are. The chemistry between them is undeniable. They instantly have a connection that both want to explore further, but to what capacity? A friendship? A one night stand? Maybe even something a little more?

Ryan is relentless and starts to abuse his powers of ordering enough pizzas to capitalize Andi's nights at work. All of which her father is down with...as long as he keeps ordering those pies....

Dad: A very nice man called asking for my permission to invite you in for a poker night, and then he tipped the company two hundred bucks. You'll go and you'll play that poker game, do you understand me?
Me: Dad, are you pimping me out for pizza?

I completely fell in love with Ryan and Andi!! Not only are these two incredibly funny, but they are adorable and complement each other perfectly.

He texts me horrible jokes to use for stand-up, and I text him back offering awful hockey advice. It sounds stupid, but... it's our thing.

But what I loved just as much was the close knit family connections that both main character's had. It made the book feel deeper, more familiar. Andi's relationship with her dad was beautifully developed and made me tear up. Seeing Ryan's family embrace Andi was so heartwarming to see. I loved how everyone was rooting for them to push pass their second guesses and vulnerabilities. There are a few obstacles for them to climb, so it's not all smooth sailing for these two.

I was really surprised that this was Lilly Kate's first novel. I loved the entire premise of this book and was pleasantly surprised that it was more than what I expected. Kate did a wonderful job developing both main characters, but her side characters were fantastic as well! This is a group that I want to know more about! The flow was fantastic and the writing style was relaxed, but intriguing. I loved Andi's voice throughout. Her doubts were realistic and not annoying. I could relate to her.

I'm more than excited to see where Lilly Kate goes after this! Don't hesitate to one-click ladies! You'll be fighting over the charming Ryan Pierce in no time!

What do you get when a Hockey star meets the pizza delivery girl? Smiley Faces!
Well that is what I got from this book. And a few surprises too, all in a good way.

Andi is working part time, attending Uni and trying to make it big on the comic scene. She is out delivering pizzas when she knocks on Ryan's door. And wham..... Andi is gobsmacked to find not only is she standing in front of The Ryan Pierce, who she has a major fangirl crush on, but he is there in only a towel! Can it get any better, oh yes it can. It all started out having an little fun and then it became so much more.

I adored this book for so many reasons and mostly because of these two characters. Ryan and Andi are the couple you want to be. He was relaxed and attentive and once he worked out what he wanted, he made it happen without going all alpha male. But lets not leave Andi out. She had some doubts to start with, that were very plausible, but also knew what she wanted and didn't want to be selfish. There were sections of this book that I was giggling along with but also another that have me feeling heartbroken for them. Don't be concerned that this is the first book this author has written, because it works in so many ways. Highly recommend it.

This book was hilarious and hot! I often get nervous trying out debut authors, but man did Lily Kate hit it out of the park, er... score a goal with this one!

While it's considered a sports romance, nothing really takes place on the ice. It was face paced and engaging and I adored Ryan Peirce! The connection he had with Andi was so believable.

"Before I met Andi, the world never sparkled."

This book had everything I want from a romcom: heat, laughter, romance... gah that romance!

"You're the cake. Without the cake, there is no icing. I need you."

Really, if being called the cake doesn't make you all swoony and moist... then I don't know what is wrong with you! I had a little smirk on my face the entire time I read this book, it was almost as if the author new all of my favorite things in a book and she put them in there just for me!

This is my favorite romcom of 2017 so far, go but your copy today!

(So the majority of the book takes place in LA but a small percentage takes place in Minnesota so I’m counting it!)

So this took me a while to get into. I blame the ARCs that kept popping up on my kindle...

I originally bought this because it sounded like it was going to be like one of those terrible pornos and so I had to read it! 😂
It wasn’t like that. It was cute and fun. I liked Andi; she was relatable to me. I’m super awkward, clumsy and I have pretty bad luck.

There were some places where it just dragged for me but it was probably all me and not the book. I’ve been working through this one for a while so it feels like I’ve crawling in some parts.

I wanted to really like this book. The blurb sounds so cute -- like a really fun rom-com. But I found myself incredibly bored by it. Something was always missing, from the characters, from the plot. I just wished it could be more:

> More depth to the characters and the plot line.

>More witty and flirty and snarky banter between the MC's. As a reader of romance novels, I like seeing the chemistry and heat that takes place as the MC's are getting to know each other. For me, it's not about how hot the sex scenes get --- I love the push and pull that happens during the courtship ... the dance that takes place before and after the sex. You want those heartwarming, swoony,
and even humorous feels. I felt like this was lacking in this book.

>More scenes of call and text exchanges/conversations. The blurb gives an impression of this but there really wasn't much. And I think this could've contributed greatly to the development of said reader feels I mentioned above.

> More snark and more funny stuff from Andi. She is supposed to be a stand-up comedienne but I wish there were scenes showcasing some of her talent. The supporting characters rave about how great and funny she is but I couldn't see it as there wasn't anything in the book to display how she was like as a comedienne.

> More sports scenes. There was none to be found. Sigh. I get that it's the hockey off-season but he doesn't even practice or train? That seemed so weird. Because I know in real life that this is just not the case. These professional athletes have to stay in shape and can't just go cold-coach-potato-turkey on training, gym time.

Others seemed to really like this book. So maybe it's just me and my taste. But I'm sorry but I'm not keeping this on my Kindle.

I have to admit, I have read quite a few romances similar to this one but I still found it to be a cute and pleasant romance. Was it realistic in any way at all.... Nope......... but the writing was solid and well executed and characters were likeable. I also appreciated it being offered as a kindleunlimited. I'll check out more of this writers work in the future.

this was really sweet but I dunno :/
I feel like the ending was rushed and I hate when books don't give you a proper background outside of the relationship of the characters. I wanted to know about her siblings and his and what they do for fun or even see her interacting with classmates at university and him with his teammates
This book makes it seem like they have no life outside each other, even their careers are not as believable
It makes it harder to emphatise or even get to know the characters otherwise :(

3 Smiley face pizza stars!!

I was really hoping this would be a winner but it was just a little dull. I really enjoyed Andi, her character was witty and fun. I didn't get Ryan's character, he was meant to be a pro Ice Hockey player but there was hardly any mention of Hockey through the whole book, only some mentions of his contract.

I was hoping to end this book with a huge smile on my face like the pizza's Andi delivered, unfortunately I am left like this..........

I freaking loved this book!!!! Talk about a refreshing, sweet sexy and hilarious read! I am so looking forward to reading more of Lily Kate's work. This is Kate's debut book and she scores with it. I loved the storyline, characters and writing. I am a sucker for hockey romances and this one definitely lives up to my expectations. I found myself laughing like crazy at the banter between Andi and her best friend Lisa and her cousin Angela, but what was even better was the interactions between Andi and hockey star Ryan Pierce.

Andi Peretti never thought she would be crouching in the bushes when she took the latest delivery that came into her families pizza joint. The noises coming from the front room are enough to make her cringe, but when she gets the courage to finally climb out of the bushes and knock on the front door, it seems that she has completely lost the ability to talk like a normal person...something that bodes well for her, considering she is a stand-up comedian. What ensues is the craziest meeting between her and the hottest hockey player in the league. She secretly collects magazines that he appears in an has them stashed in her nightstand...lol When Ryan calls the pizza joint for yet another delivery the game is on!

Ryan Pierce is taking a break and relaxing at his brother's home in California. He is hoping to score a deal with a new agent and a new team, the furthest thing from his mind his falling for a girl. With his career ahead of him, the cleaner and quieter he keeps his personal life the better, but that all seems to fall apart one fateful night when Peretti Pizza's delivery girl literally falls into his arms. Andi is nothing like the puck bunnies he has spent time with. She is a forever girl and when Ryan asks her to be his fake girlfriend to appease his mother, he never expected to find himself falling for the cute, sexy, hilarious Andi.

Can this steamy, no-strings-attached, friends-with-benefits, non-relationship work or will the hurdles that stand in the way be to great for both of them to overcome? Seriously, you need to get your hands on this book. It was sweet, sassy, and oh so sexy-hot! I cannot wait for the next book in the series. Lily Kate is a favorite new author for me!

4 Stars!

Lily Kate blasted onto my kindle with her sweet and fun book, Delivery Girl and man did she make a mark. Unique, quirky, laugh out loud, and fun, this book took me on a journey that had me smiling, swooning, and ultimately falling head over heels in love.

I am not sure what I expected when I read this blurb but was I got was simply fantastic. Delivery Girl was the perfect easy read that I love to read in the romance world.... romantic comedy as its best. From the hilarious banter to awkward moments to panty melting steam, this book stole a piece of my heart and got forever added to my re-read pile.

Andi and Ryan... the perfect hurricane in the best kinds of ways. When these two meet, the chemistry is instant and the attraction is undeniable. And as they continue to have meetings and stolen moments, which are epic by the way, it begins to feel and turn into a little more.. but can they handle more? Get ready for a romance with its own unique flair that guarantees swooning, laughing, smiling, love, lust, kisses, and happy endings.

I recommend this sweet romance!

I think that this book is not bad at all, for a debut novel. Everything about this book is so... pure and filled with abundance of cuteness. Seriously, it's so cute and sweet. The whole pizza delivery girl thing is new to me but I liked it. Both main characters are also likeable but I especially loved the heroine's quirkiness and awkwardness. It makes her a lot more real to me.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. I would recommend it for someone who's in need for something cute but also funny, maybe after you finish a heavy novel? This book is perfect for you.
