FINALIST IN THE 2018 WISHING SHELF INDEPENDENT BOOK AWARDS
The Explosive Conclusion to the Award-Winning Resistance Series
To Deny Freedom is to Deny the Human Spirit.
Fugitive Resistance fighter Tommy Bailey has come out of hiding to help rescue Careen Catecher from the clutches of the Office of Civilian Safety and Defense, where she’s been held and interrogated for information about the rebel group. The OCSD is poised to launch the Cerberean Link, a security device that will put all minors under constant surveillance under the guise of protecting them.
Fearful that OCSD director Madalyn Davies’s bid for control won’t stop there, the Resistance puts its own plan in motion to sabotage the Link and oust Madalyn from the directorship. Just when everything seems leveraged in the Resistance’s favor, treachery, lies, and long-held secrets threaten to derail it all.
Will even a life together on the run be impossible for Tommy and Careen? Or will the Resistance’s efforts convince the public to put their fears aside and demand freedom?

I had actually read the previous books in this series an entire year ago, but with Revolt, I gradually fell back into the story and the world that Tracy Lawson created. In the dramatic finale to the Resistance series, Careen is still dealing with the aftermath of what she had to deal with while held hostage at the Office of Civilian Safety and Defense. The OCSD is about to launch the Cerberean Link, and if it succeeds, they can track every minor at every moment, giving them ultimate power. But the Resistance is countering with an attack of their own, and the war will not end that easily.
I thought the plot for this was less exciting than the previous books actually, because I felt that this book was more predictable, but it still definitely had its ups and downs. I was still engaged in the story and couldn't wait to figure out how the book would end.
Still, I think I loved the characters more than I loved the story. Careen, especially, was one that I couldn't help but feel for, considering all that she had to go through, and although her pain broke my heart, her character development was realistic and I loved seeing a female character that was at her strongest when she was fighting her own battle scars, not when she was physically out on the battlefield.
I feel like I may have taken a little while to get into the book because of how long ago I read the other books, but I did get there eventually. Nevertheless, because of the abundance of characters, I had to refresh my memory a bit - but this was on me, and for someone reading the books back-to-back, this definitely shouldn't be an issue. Another thing I enjoyed about this book was that there was a good balance between the crazy, dystopian adventures, and the little, softer scenes that allowed readers to take a breather.
As the finale to the series, one of the biggest things I was looking forward to was how the story would be ended. The author definitely did a great job establishing closure, and at the same time I liked how it was realistic and believable. The writing style was consistently great - as it has been for the past three books, and overall I would definitely recommend this story to anyone who likes reading dystopian young adult novels, like The Hunger Games or Divergent. It's sad to see the end of another journey, but I'm glad I was able to be a part of it.
The final book starts off where book three left off. I really enjoy the fact that she has continuity in her books. I could not find any plot holes which is amazing.
This whole series kinda scared me. You never know what can happen in the world. The action, tension, and drama was spot on. There weren’t any lagging parts. Tracy Lawson’s story kept me glued to the story. I really enjoyed reading this series. It gave me a chance to escape to another world. I really look forward to reading more of Lawson’s future works. I will recommend this story to others
A WISHING SHELF BOOK REVIEW 30th August 2017 TITLE: Revolt AUTHOR: Tracy Lawson Star Rating: ****
CATCHY QUOTE ‘A show-stopping ending to a fast-paced set of YA thrillers.’ The Wishing Shelf
REVIEW I have enjoyed all four of the books in this set of YA thrillers. For me, the best was the first: Counteract. This book felt the most ‘original’ to me. But, the author did a wonderful job keeping the story going, packing it full of drama, wars and a sprinkling of romance. Now to the characters. Oddly, for a book of this nature, this is not a plot or even a setting-driven saga. It is character-driven. Careen, who has been through hell at the hands of the OCSD, is pretty ‘damaged’ in this book. But, with Tommy’s help, she starts to mend. The two central characters are richly-observed by the author who I would think, by now, knows them better than her own family. There are also a number of secondary characters, the best being Mitch, a horrible fellow who is still important to the story. You will have to read it to find out what happens to him! Revolt, the last book in the set, delivers in many ways. Like the rest of the books, there is plenty of pace and the characters stay ‘in character’ till the very end. Talking of the end, it’s wonderful! Anybody who has followed Careen and Tommy will not feel short changed in any way. Although, I’m glad the author did not feel it necessary to offer her characters (and readers) a utopia ending; by doing this, she kept the realism in her story. And, who knows, there might be a Book Five one day. Fingers crossed!
It's rare for me to go through a series without me losing interest and giving up 25% or halfway through, but this series is a whole different story. 💗
With these books, we have a very scarily realistic storyline where the government is corrupt and slowly stripping away everyone's rights, trying to pass it off as something else.
These are all fast reads with simple yet beautiful writing. These are books filled with action that will keep you turning the pages with an order of romance on the side. ✨
Something that YA lacks is familial ties, role models, and friendship, which this series has. (Like can we talk about how much I adore Eduardo? Y’ALL. ) This has been such a journey and I love how Tommy & Careen’s relationship grew. miiight be my #1 OTP ❤
I honestly just can't recommend this enough, and it's a bit bittersweet to have it end, but I do have the prequel waiting for me. This is definitely one of my favorite series to ever come across.
Begun and done in a single reading session... and with good reason!
We picked up just where the last book left off (word to the wise... not a series you can side step into... start with book 1!), allowing readers to easily catch back up with the status of their favorite and not so favorite characters. Tommy and Careen are back, but not exactly as themselves, considering all that went down at the end of book three though, I'm not really surprised. Her journey back to herself is gonna be tough, but if anyone can do it and help turn this resistance effort around, its her... with a goodly dose of help from her friends (and mor than friends! 😉).
Action packed from start to finish and filled with enough conspiracy theories come to life, to scare any red blooded American... then again considering our world today, maybe a little close to home. Highly recommended for an exciting addition to your summer reading!
After four books (and one prequel novella), I was hoping that the Resistance series would end the way it should: with the storylines being wrapped up, one or two more twists, and our teenage heroes being given the closure they've sought since the beginning. I was not disappointed.
This series has been a great ride. Tommy and Careen feel like old friends at this point, and I know I will miss them as I move on to other reading projects. Like so many great YA characters who survive their ordeals, I say: let their scars heal, their lives return to some semblance of normal, and make beautiful fictitonal babies together. (Perhaps in a Resistance: Next Gen series, wink wink.)
*** I voluntarily reviewed this book, I gained no monetary incentives nor was I specifically requested to review the book, these are my honest ramblings and I hope you enjoy reading them - kat***
This is the conclusion to the story of Careen, Tommy and the rest of the resistance who are fighting the OCSD They are trying to stop the Cerberean Link, The tracker that Atari the Tech head designed, he is working for both the Resistance team AND the OCSD! OR does he have his own agenda???? You will have to read the book to find out.
The storyline as it went was a slow burn but I was still glued to my kindle right to the very end.
As a conclusion, I think Ms Lawson did a good job of wrapping up the storyline, BUT with scope for maybe some further stories - Once you were linked it was permanent, so who knows what could happen!
What I found the most compelling about this series is that it's not so unbelievable - and to be honest America seems to be on the precipice of a big shift with the current administration, it starts small... taking away your rights one at a time, and before the country knows, its media is controlled and so are your liberties.... sound familiar (scarily so in my opinion) But let's not get into how I feel Trump is beginning to sound scarily like Madalyn Davies!!!!
Ms Lawson's writing style is really enjoyable, it flows well, is fresh and interesting but at the same time modern and fits with the Dystopian genre.
This series will suit any reader that enjoys YA dystopian novels.
The story: It picks up right after the events of the third book. Careen is a mess, suffering from PTSD after what she'd been through. But she has Tommy to bring her back. The resistance needs her. The country needs her. The OCSD is working furiously to activate the link that would put minor's under their control, allowing them to be tracked. It could destroy everything. But the resistance has a plan. What I loved: Once again, the characters that Ms. Lawson creates are vibrant and well-developed. I felt everything they felt. There's something so honest and endearing about Careen and Tommy in particular. Jumping into this book after reading book three months ago is like reuniting with old friends.
Great conclusion to the series! We finally discover who has truly been working to improve the lives of everyone in the country, not simply destroy it. To say some of the revelations are surprising are an understatement! It's a must read!
Each seeming to lead to a logical conclusion. With so much action happening it was easy to assume what would happen. Totally surprised but happy with the finale.

The covers are interesting and present an interesting series. Initially, when looking at them, they don’t appear to be a thriller series of a future dystopian American society that’s about to undergo a coup at the highest level. But that’s exactly what this series is. 2035 better not be this disruptive!
The story is well done. I don’t know how real to life it all is for revolutionists, not ever having been involved in a revolution. But they have their organization and their slip-ups. People get hurt and even killed. This is a serious revolution. Each of our two young heroes, Careen and Tommy, get seriously hurt, shot, and even tortured. There are times when you don’t know who is on which side or which side is good or bad, which I imagine may be authentic to a situation such as this. So many people appeared to know what they were talking about and appeared to be speaking the truth, whether they were or not. People who were in positions of authority and power in the country and law enforcement. But as Hemingway said, power corrupts. It seems to corrupt the weak who can’t stand on their own and have to have something like a title to hold up to show how great they are.
The characters were really well done. Some of them we got to know quite well because we were with them all the way through the book and got to know their quirks and even how they like their coffee. Others just sort of passed through here and there as very minor characters, like Nicole. Poor, scared, Nicole.
The pace was mostly relentless as all five books seemed to barrel towards some horrendous cataclysmic ending. The tension of never quite knowing who was on which side and what would pop out around the next corner kept the tension stretched tight throughout. No rest. No time to catch your breath. Just like the characters.
I thoroughly enjoyed this series and would strongly recommend it for Young Adult readers of this genre, Political Dystopian Thriller YA with just a touch of young romance thrown in.
Thank you to the author for giving me an audiobook copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own and have not been solicited.
What I love about this series is that it is so easy to catch up on events and the plot. The author always creates segues that remind the reader of what happened in the previous books, which really helps make connections stick. It's not something one sees all the time in a series, but it is definitely appreciated!
I didn't love this book as much as I did the other books in the series. Mind you, this was still a very good novel. However, it didn't have as much action as I had hoped and the story was a tad bit predictable.
With that being said, I still really loved the plot. The author gives a really well-rounded picture of the entire scenario. We see how the citizens feel, we see how the politicians think, and we even get to see the divisions within the Resistance itself. It made the story so much more realistic; I could easily envision a situation like this one happening in our world right now and I would feel just as conflicted as some of the characters and people mentioned in the book. That has always been the highlight for me in this series and the author continues to make the story as real as possible in this book.
I also really like the way the characters were developed. It was so easy to connect with them and to understand them. If a character wasn't as developed in one book, you can be sure that it will happen in one of the other stories. By the end of the series, I felt like I had a good handle on everyone.
Overall, I really liked this entire series. I loved the audiobook experience, and the narrator did a fantastic job! I liked the realistic nature of this dystopian novel and the way the author portrayed realistic interactions between different characters. The plot made sense, and the story ended nicely enough, if a bit predictable. All in all, it gets a solid 4/5 stars from me!
Beware, Big Brother is watching and in Tracy Lawson’s Revolt, Big Brother is personified by Madalyn Davies, Director of the OCSD, the Government organisation set up to control terrorism within America. But, as the saying goes, power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Davies has used her position to further her own personal power goals and the big project – to ultimately link all citizens of the United States to the OCSD network is progressing well, with the initial target being the linking, watching and total control of the nation’s children. Fortunately, there is a resistance movement and with a number of the resistance high up in the OCSD office as well as a sympathetic ear in the White House and Congress, all is not lost for the resistance and for freedom. Problems also exist within the resistance though, with mistrust of loyalties and of motives running high. Put all this together and you have an explosive recipe for excitement.
I understand this is the third book in a series focusing on the OCSD and the Resistance’s fight against the loss of the citizen’s freedoms at the expense of some “possible” terrorist threat. I liked that this book, Revolt, was able to be read as a stand-alone story, but it definitely piqued my interest to discover how the current situation had developed. The writing by Lawson is crisp and clean and the characters easy to identify with. The parallels between the situations described in the book and current day events were not lost on this reader and that just made the read more interesting and exciting. There is plenty of action for fans of a fast pace, but Lawson also allows time to draw believable and real characters. If you love action adventure that borders on today’s reality, I have no doubt you will enjoy Revolt by Tracy Lawson.
I've been reading this series basically since it first came out, and honestly I really still love the characters and all of their weird interactions. As the conclusion to the series, Revolt is not one of those books that gives you a neatly tied bow on a package and tells you it's over. It has twists, turns, and you're going to be in for yet another adventure with the Resistance crew.
This is the ending I hoped for and honestly didn't know if we as the readers would get it. It has a lot of emotion and you see these characters that in Book 1 were so silly about this revolution and maybe just joined because they wanted to fight or idealism, but now you see that they've grown up a lot and learned that even revolutions aren't perfect.
As someone who has suffered some personal emotional trauma, I loved how Tommy interacted with a very PTSD stricken Careen in this book. He was kind and gentle and it was all about her healing.
Tracy has created characters that we love, we love to hate, and maybe you just don't like at all. Mitch is one of those for me. Tracy's writing of him is so descriptive that with every fiber of my being I just really want to punch him in the face.
So, this series that I've been reading since the beginning is over. What's a girl to do? Restart from book 1 of course!
Atari doesn't have a filter and neither do I...about how much I love this book that is. Revolt is a book that will keep you on the edge of your seat and you will read the last page over and over so you don't have to say goodbye. Characters struggle to remember who they are and what they are fighting for. They go back to their roots even if the roots could entrap them. We find out more about their motives and grieve with them as they come to realizations and struggle with their losses. Our hearts break as we see that our favorite couple are in two different places and to fix their relationship, they have to find their way back to themselves and each other. Knockout, drag out fights, painful discoveries, heartbreak, love, and of course a big dose of humor and wit. Revolt is a showstopper that one shouldn't keep quiet about. Go read it now and remember Resistance forever.
So I liked this book, I did. But I feel like this one was so slow compared to the other ones. And it was just to nice and neat. Sorry! :( I was actually bored for the first half of the book and that is the first time that has happened in this series. No one dies and everything went okay for the most part. I am still not a fan of Tommy and Careen... sorry!!!!! :0( I know I am one of the few.... But the author did a great job over this series with character building and world building and it was written beautifully.

I absolutely loved everything about The Resistance series, and Revolt was the perfect ending. Even though I read the series in a little over a week, I feel as if I've spent much longer with the characters because they're so realistic and relatable. Although I'm outside of the target young adult audience, I loved every minute of this nonstop adventure. Thank you, Tracy Lawson, for creating a brilliant world filled with fascinating characters. It was my pleasure to get lost among them.
Revolt gives us an epic conclusion to The Resistance Series. I loved how each of the opposing factions collides in this one and it brings about a proper and hopeful ending to a series that grew darker by the book.
Something huge in Revolt is that just when you think the main characters hit the climax, Lawson does what she does best and injects even more tension into the work. You barely see any falling action here given the way things come to a head.
I highly recommend it for any fan of the young adult, dystopian, or thriller genres. It's also a keeper of a book and an entire series if you crave nonstop action and escalating tension that pushes boundaries. Indie slash small press writing at its finest.
Revolt picks up where Ignite left off with Tommy still trying to rescue Careen. After she is rescued Careen has a long road ahead of her for recovering with all the things the OSCD put her through. Careen has no idea who she can trust. Tommy is trying to help her as much as he can or she will let him. Hopefully with Tommy’s help Careen will make a comeback but she will probably never be the same person she was before she was captured by the OSCD and all the abuse but she is one tough cookie.
I love reading dystopia books and am so glad that I got the chance to read all five books in the Resistance Series I sorely hate to see it end. I love the world that was created in the Resistance Series and all the characters. I loved following Tommy, Careen, Mitch and all the other characters on their journeys getting to know each and every one and finding out who they were and learning their stories and how they all fit in the story.
Revolt like all the other books in this series was filled with just as much action and suspense as well as twists and turns that kept me glued to my kindle flipping the pages wanting to know where the story was going to take me next. I couldn’t put it down.
If you like reading dystopia, science fiction with just a twist of romance then you are going to love Revolt but I do suggest that you start with book one Counteract as I do think the books should be read in order.

I like how strong they are in the face of a corrupt and controlling government. Dystopian novels seem to be popular just now, maybe because of The Hunger Games. Books like this don’t ‘quite’ hit the mark of that book, but it was still very entertaining and well-written.’ Girl, aged 16 ‘To be honest, I like slow, sedate sort of books. But I still thought it was interesting with cool characters.’ Girl, aged 15 ‘I have now read all the books in the series. I found them all enjoyable and exciting.
