Twice before Rex Vahl has been sent out into the lawless Chaos Quarter, and barely managed to get back alive. Now the Free Terran Commonwealth calls on him to do the impossible once again. She’s not thrilled with the situation, but feels it’s her duty to end the slaughter. The only way to get her there: Through the violent backwater of the Chaos Quarter.
But Rex’s previous trips may not be enough to prepare him for this new mission. When an assassin tries to kill the princess in the heart of the Commonwealth itself, it becomes clear that a powerful player wants to make sure the princess never reaches Māori space. Worst still, the attack may have something to do with a mysterious power that roams the Chaos Quarter, pillaging worlds at will. To survive Rex and his crew will have to learn to take on a new type of enemy, one that isn’t concerned with politics or power. This is an enemy that has no need of diplomacy or mercy, no need for the games that nations play. This is an enemy that lives solely for the exquisite joy of the kill…
David Welch hails from the capital district of upstate New York, where he has lived all his life. He is a long-time fan of action-adventure tales in all genres, be it classic pulp tales, shoot 'em up westerns, or ripping space operas. When not writing he spends his time hiking, skiing, and exploring out of the way places. His books are all available on Amazon.
The "Chaos Quarter: Horde (The Chaos Quarter, Book 3)," authored by Mr. David Welch, continues the activities of "Free Commonwealth," intel agents, as they engage in tedious, plodding, and mainly repetitive, "bull in the China shop," activities, in the unaligned space of the "Chaos Quarter." The writing is not executed well, and has devolved to a hobbyist level.
This installment of the series, has Rex Vahl, and his three-person crew, tasked with transporting a princess from Terra, back to her home planet, for a potentially civil war-ending, arranged marriage. Enroute, the crew runs into a cyborg lead, nomadic force of brutal savages, known as the "Horde."
Mr. Welch, returns to an amateurish formula, that has his characters, engaging in similar plots, where only the villains are changed. The crew bull their way through dilemmas, with fortuitous, and miraculous results. The sanctimonious and condescending attitude of the main protagonist, Rex, has made a once engaging character, obnoxious. The writing is sloppy, and once again, the alleged editing/proofreading, is pitiful.
The "Horde," is not recommended and was fully read via Kindle Unlimited.
Don't know how long it's been since the last one came out, this being the third in the series, but being able to pick it up read a few pages and become re engaged in the world and storyline says a lot about how good it is. Plenty of times I've begun reading a continuation of some previous series and it can take several chapters to really get back into and remember the characters and storyline, these are definitely a cut above average.
The third book is as awesome as the first two, and it seems the author promises another. Love the characters, the plot and of course the action. This book, unlike others, had some typos and editing problems...
