Book 1 I've read The Rogue Elf of Urlas: Songs of Shadow, and Ranger's Folly, so when I saw Valrin & Fadis in this book it got me feeling giddy!
This quick novella sets up the framework for what is looking to be an epic journey. The World of the Dwemhar is expansive in books and lore, so this book is no different in giving us a new glimpse of the world through a different characters eyes.
Book 2 So Shadow Elves are probably my second favorite characters in the world of the Dwemhar. (doubtful anything will top necromancers but you never know) :P
This novella builds up more world lore and fate told events unfold, while letting us get to know the main players a bit more. There is a good group of characters with heavy pasts coming together, so I'm intrigued about backstories, and even more so as to how Valrin became who he was in Half-Bloods Rising. Full of adventure, a few battle scenes, more questions than answers, and well you get the picture. JT Williams is a must read author. I know I'm going to be so book drunk after finish the Stormborn series, thank goodness book 10 is on it's way out.
Book 3 HELL YEAH. This book climaxed in all the best possible ways. Death, growth, crew bonding, what more could you ask for? Maybe a glimpse at a 30 years younger REDACTED, and the pre badassary he was capable of. Okay, that's in there too.
There are so many strong characters in this series, it's really hard to pick a favorite, even the villains have depth. This book connected a lot of dots for me, and gave more insight to future events.
This box set includes 3 titles: 1-Stormborn, 2-Mage Soul, and 3-Elf Bane. The story begins with Valrin, said to be born of the sea. Raised by his adopted elven aunt on a small fishing island, he knows nothing of his past and wonders of his future.... until the unexpected arrival of a mysterious ship changes everything. Below is a review of the first book to give you an idea of what you will find in this set.
*** “1-STORMBORN” *** Valrin woke early in the morning. He was an orphan boy who caught eels for a living in the fishing town where he lived. A fisherman told him some dwarven ships were coming, so he gathered his eels to sell for bait. But the ship that arrived wasn’t a fishing ship. A scary-looking dwarf announced that another ship might come with dangerous elves, men, and a witch and they would need to toss the contents of a bag he gave them into the water if they arrived.
The ship did arrive and asked to purchase a tall tree to repair their damaged mast. Valrin’s Aunt Tua told the fishers to go home and invited the Captain to her home while his crew went to get the tree. The captain seemed very interested that Valrin had been washed up from the sea, just as the captain himself had. There were tales about those special people, destined for the water. The captain handed a ring to Valrin and asked him to put it on. Certain people would be able to breathe underwater if they wore it, and the ring glowed on Valrin’s finger. Aunt Tua brought out an amulet she’d saved for Valrin and the captain started to explain what it was when there was pounding on the door. The fishers had poisoned the crew and signaled the dwarves to attack. There was more going on than anyone knew, and danger was everywhere! Would anyone survive? Will Valrin discover his true destiny before it’s too late?
This was a short but very good story. Don’t miss out on this wonderful collection! The writing is good and the story lines will keep the reader’s full attention!
In this fantasy series you'll meet Valrin the Stormborn. This young man is brave, motivated, inspiring, and really spirited. Valrin lives with his Aunt Tua. She took him in one night of a storm, he just blew into the tide waters of the island. He gets up super early every morning to catch eels so he can sell them. This orphan has personality and heart. The whole series is based around the Stormborn idea. To be a Stormborn you must have been born during a storm at night. I'm not saying a little rain either, I mean like a hurricane like storm. Usually, Stormborns are orphaned also. The Gods have blessed the Stormborns as the protectors of the realms ( they also have an amulet and a cool gift too). Valrin has an exciting day one morning that changes the course of his life, literally. He sees dwarves arrive in the port. He then meets Captain Edanos, Rortho, and Braei. Tragedy strikes and he is forced to face his destiny. He travels with the Captain and his crew to meet a god and the adventures begin. Enjoy the madness as Valrin, Edanos, Rortho, Braei, Fadis, Evurn, and Aeveam travel the Glacial Seas to battle the dwarves loyal to the Barb King ( bent on destroying all elves and mankind). Our crew will meet and even be tested by gods. If a god is going to back you, they need to know you're worth it. This series had me run a gamut of emotions. This is an amazing fantasy series!! I most definitely recommend it for anyone who loves fantasy.
Stormborn Saga is a fantastic adventure of a boy named Valrin who finds himself thrust into a battle of dwarves, elves, humans, and Gods. Dwarves are attempting to take over the world and will seemingly stop at nothing to accomplish this feat. Valrin finds that he is special, one of a few. An orphaned Stormborn who is destined from birth to captain a ship. A ship with magical powers and unbelievable abilities to assist the one who captains it. This series of books was full of action, fast paced, and an absolute joy to read! I would highly recommend these to anyone who loves reading amazing fighting scenes, magic, and a strong main character who takes control of the situations and comes up with great strategies. He does make mistakes, though he learns from them and figures a way out of them. There are great lessons to be learned for real life here. It's ok to make a mistake and if you do, you just have to work your way out of it. Love this book and will definitely be reading more by the author!
Do you like quests? Do you like magic and elves, dwarves and things you can't explain easily? This tale is for you! Valrin is a fisher - or at least, he thinks he will end up being one. And while the life isn't boring, it's not what he really feels like he wants. He washed up on the beach of the island he lives on with his "Aunt". And then he meets Edanos and his crew. "Stormborn" also, Edanos tells Valrin he's meant for something more. Start epic quest/journey. You will follow the crew all over their world, meeting new people and running into trouble everywhere. It's a great read, full of action and it was really hard to put down. I read through it and then immediately started the second set of books and am currently burning through those as well. Quirky, sarcastic, funny and tragic all rolled into one smashing beginning of a series!
The dwarves' Barb King, claiming to be 'Stormborn', is trying to take over the realm and destroy all other life forms (ex. elves, humans, vampires, etc.) It is up to the fabled 'Stormborn' to protect the seas. Valrin is a child, raised on a fishing island by his Aunt, when a strange ships land and a number of unusual events land Valrin and the crew of one such ship, on an adventure to protect the realm. This was an action packed, fast moving tale, that was interesting and a little mysterious. I enjoyed the story and appreciated the story speed, but, I would have liked it slowed down a little so the characters could have been a little more fleshed out and defined. Were they built like warriors? Were they plain looking or devastatingly beautiful? But all in all, a very enjoyable book.
I actually really enjoyed this series. I found the characters engaging. As in most fantasy books we find our protagonist abilities grow with the help of his friends and outside influences. It's great adventure story with a lot of action and danger. . J.T. Williams keeps the adventures moving along at a good pace. This series is not elaborate more old school in writing. So if you like action, adventure, danger, plot twists, pirate dwarfs, elves, magic, humor, peril, evil, intrigue, a rogue or two, weapons, fighting, and a touch of tech, This book may be for you.
A fast paced adventure with many races of beings working to save the world. The characters are well written and even though the theme is typical, there are many twists incorporated in this tale to keep you reading. The main characters are very interesting and you are occasionally surprised at what they do next as danger keeps finding them. Best of all, you don't have to wait for the next book.
This box set is a great beginning and introduction to the world that J.T. Williams has created. It has many great aspects of fantasy books from various types of magic (even a hint of “technology” magic). The characters are well developed and draw you in strongly. I am hesitant to compare it to others, yet it is definitely worth reading by any fantasy reader!
I loved the characters and their growth. Their adventures were varied and exciting. Don’t want to give away spoilers but you will enjoy meeting the fantasy folk and seeing what they are capable of. A young boy grows into his destiny with the help of his friends and despite his enemies.
Was a tale worth reading. For some reason, parts of it just didn't grab my imagination and take me away. But other parts did, so maybe it was just me. Read it and decide for yourself.
I enjoyed this series and it answered questions left from the original books that brought me to this series. All these broken people finding each other and becoming better and stronger for each other lends depth and breadth to the characters and overall series.
Fast action, keeps your attention through entire series. I am glad I downloaded the whole set of three. I would have been unhappy waiting for each one to come out.
These were a great read, fast paced full of danger and adventure. These stories take place in the same land as the Rogues of Magic Trilogy , and in the years prior to those storys. This is a very good read and holds your attention from beginning to end. J.T. Williams is a fine Author and a great story teller. Suitable for young adults as well as anyone who loves the fantasy world of sword and sorcery! J.T. Williams in one of the best indie authors and worth checking out! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
