Her mother's best friend was murdered on the day that Beth Penfield was born, and so far, the fifteen-year-old has never wanted to know more. But two newcomers to her school bring big changes--a tough kid with a questionable past and a meddling special ed teacher with an unusual interest in Beth's family. Rumors begin to come her way, and curiosity gets the best of her. But some things are better left unknown.
I enjoyed reading this story a lot, it is a very mysterious book full of secrets that slowly unravel throughout the story once Beth starts asking questions. Beth is a 15 year old girl who has never really questioned her life or surroundings; she has always known that her family is surrounded by gossip especially because of the relationship between her parents and her mother's best friend mysterious dead. It isn't until the new kid in town or the new teacher arrives that Beth starts questioning her existence.
The book is very complex and I could not put it down because of how interesting the plot was. I just wanted to know all the secrets surrounding Beth and at times I felt desperate and annoyed because Beth did not ask enough questions.
