Quietus est ... he is quit.

There is no such thing as an ending, just a new beginning.
Throughout the millennia, extinction has been the norm and survival, the exception.
When faced with the hour of departure, will mankind fight to survive?
NOT ONLY WAS THERE A PATIENT ZERO, THERE WAS ALSO A LAST PATIENT.

A new dystopian, post-apocalyptic fiction series from author Bobby Akart (The Blackout Series, The Boston Brahmin series and the Prepping for Tomorrow series). The events depicted in The Pandemic Series are fictional. They are, however, based upon historical fact.

QUIETUS concludes The Pandemic Series. For Mac and Hunter, and all mankind, there is no means of avoiding the final death blow brought about by the spread of the deadly plague virus. With every human contact, you run the risk of contracting the disease. Each surface you touch may have been contaminated by someone else. Every animal you encounter, or eat, could be contagious. Rules of survival have changed. Humans must adapt, or die.

This is a apocalyptic dystopian thriller series about the threats we face from a global pandemic, and the use of infectious diseases by terrorists as they wage jihad around the world.

Note: The Pandemic Series does not contain strong language. It is intended to entertain and inform audiences of all ages, including teen and young adults. Although some scenes depict the realistic threat our nation faces from a worldwide pandemic, and the societal collapse which will result in the aftermath, it does not contain graphic scenes typical of other books in the post-apocalyptic genre.

With billions of people dead worldwide and more dying each day at the hands of ISIS who had called for the destruction of America by way of bioterrorism. One woman who was shunned by the government, works tirelessly to help save those who are left before the extinction of mankind. With the threat hitting close to home and threatens those she holds most dear, she continues day and night to find a cure for the deadly pandemic known as the pneumonic plague or Yersinia pestis (Y. pestis) bacteria. But can she find the right compounds before it is too late?
Quietus I feel was the perfect ending to a fantastic story line. Bobby brought it all together and closed with and ending that made me feel that there just might be hope for the world yet. Though I did hate seeing those two words…The End…I am content. I am appeased.
The Pandemic series is one of a number of books written by Bobby Akart that takes place when the world as we know it is severely compromised. Be it an EMP, cyber attack or in the case of this series. A plague. Not only are these books entertaining but the are also filled with information that could help the readers prepare for and hopefully survive these catastrophes. This series though is the one that has terrified me the most. With the condition of the world today and so many terrorist groups gaining more supporters and weapons, I can honestly see this coming to fruition one day.
I found the Pandemic series. The amount of research, the correct terminology, the mapping of the disease by this author was very well done and in depth. The characters were not only realistically written but also believable as they faced one road block after another in their fight to stop the evil spreading across the country. They became like friends and I read each page wondering who would make it and who wouldn’t. I held my breath so many times when it was a close call, I cried at times when the death struck someone that never even knew what was happening to them, I laughed at in parts at the comedic relief that was interspersed throughout the story and yes…I screamed and swore at the author at other times.
To say I enjoyed this book would be an understatement. I absolutely loved this this story. From start to finishe I became engrossed in it and also became aware at the things I touched in everyday life and have now become paranoid at being more observant of my surroundings. To that I owe a resounding Thank You to Bobby for it may just save my life someday.
This series should be read by everyone. Not just those who enjoy an apocalyptic type book but by anyone who wants to learn how to survive in a world that has gone to hell. This series is for all ages. Bobby keeps his stories clean with no sexual content or uncalled for swearing, which is another reason I love his books. I do recommend this series and have to many friends who have also read it and loved it.

The Final Jihad begins its final stage

This is the fourth book in the Pandemic series, and the author says it's the last. I'm going to lobby to change his mind because I really don't want to see this story end and I think there's a lot more story to be told!

The following may contain spoilers if you haven't read the first three books in the series. If you're just starting the story, I seriously recommend you finish Beginnings, The Innocents, and Level 6 first. If you like post-apocalyptic dystopian fiction, or Prepping for disasters, or even just a really good story, you will love this series.

The series began with a chance meeting of Dr. Mackenzie Hagan, an associate director at the CDC, and Agent Nathan Hunter, a specialist with the Defense Threat Reduction Agency. Their encounter in a village in Guatemala marked the first outbreak of a weaponized pneumonic plague. There were no survivors. It was also the first shot fired by ISIS in the Final Jihad. The plague broke out across the world, seemingly everywhere at once.

Mac and Hunter, along with Mac's parents - Barb and Tommy Hagan, and joined by Janie Turnbull, had stockpiled a generous supply of food, weapons and ammunition, and enough medical supplies for Mac and Janie to conduct their search for a cure to the plague. Their remote home in the Rocky Mountains was isolated and defensible, and comfortable. The nearby town of Breckenridge has a small year-round population including a doctor and a small hospital.

The plague has claimed the lives of more than 99% of the world population and is slowing only because it has nearly exhausted its living hosts. Now the survivors face survival in a dying world fighting against disease, terrorists and the scum of life, seeking to take advantage of the lack of authority.

The Hagans and the people of Breckenridge struggle against a rogue motorcycle gang, a religious zealot seeking to repopulate the world with his own seed, outsiders bringing crime and disease, and government with its own agenda, and armed terrorists. What more could you want?

I found this to be the best book of the series! Action! Suspense! The story fairly leapt off the page with excitement, raising my spirits, lighting my soul afire with the love and joy of family, dashing my hopes to the ground and trampling my expectations, gently lifting me and . . .
the rest is my imagination. This is a series to entertain and educate, to spawn conversation and study, to take your breath away, to read.

This is the last book in a four book series and I want more!!!! This book is a gripping, edge of your seat, page turning thrill ride that never eases up so buckle in before you start to read. The characters are people you have grown to love or despise and hope it ends well for some and others, not so much. We travel from Quandry Peak to Breckenridge, Cheyenne Mountain, Colorado Springs and deep into the Stapleton Underground Bunker in Denver.
Meanwhile the next step of hitting places where the survivors are trying to just carry on with their lives has began. The Jihadists are hoping for total demoralization of all who have made it through the plague threat and sending them out of their secure places to face the plague again.
Again the group we have grown to love like family have hard decisions to make as they realize the President doesn't have everyone's best interest at heart. Will they make the right decision, of course they will and once again we see a government that only cares about it's own agenda and power.
I highly recommend this series if you want to be taken along for a thought provoking and terrifying journey that will change how you live your everyday life.

Disappointing finale to an intriguing and controversial series. It is rushed, with interesting sub-plots ending in poor comic book solutions. Overall it makes an extremely strong story trite and clinched.

I must admit, I finished this last week and can only write up my review now! The simple fact is... I'm not ready for this to be over, I'm not ready to say goodbye to these characters, I just couldn't gather my thoughts enough to actually sit down and put into words what I felt!! Plus it's been super busy at home and I didn't have an hour to sit and do this review.

So, here we are at book 4 and these characters have firmly cemented themselves in my heart. After the ending of the last book, I eagerly dived in to see if that character survived!! Well, I'm not going to say because that would be a spoiler ;) Anyway, this one sees Mac racing to find a cure or a vaccine for the plague, Hunter is called to action, there's an egotistical man who is trying to impregnate as many women as he can, his sons are kidnapping girls and bringing them to the mountain, poor Janie ends up as a victim and Hunter needs to try and save her before it's too late. There's an awful lot more happening but I can't get into it because it will spoil everything!!!

Plot wise, I found this one to be more action packed and thrilling than the previous 3. All along the story has followed the progression of the plague and the characters, this one has a lot more tense scenes, a lot more edge of your seat action and a lot more suspense. I few through it and didn't want it to end.

Again, as with nearly all of this authors work, the characters are awesome. Mac is driven, smart and not afraid to do what's needed. I loved what she did at the end, and I felt like it stuck true to her character. Hunter meanwhile, shines a bit more here. He is a badass and I'm glad he got to be one again!! Each character was well written and developed and are firmly on my favourites. I really didn't want to say goodbye, and with the way the book ended, I'm hoping we may see them again!!

In all, this series is fantastic. The level of detail and research that went into it was phenomenal and it showed. The author has created a scenario that is feasible and one that frightened me. It's a series that made me think and opened my eyes to how easy it would be for a pandemic to happen. Seriously.... go read this series, you won't be disappointed!!

Narration wise, it's 5 star all the way for John David Farrell. He read the book extremely well, was easy to listen to and follow, and had plenty of tones and voices to make this an enjoyable listen. Kris Adams is a 4 star rating, simply because she didn't differentiate the females enough. She has a pleasant voice and reads the story well, it's just that all the girls sounded the same!!

I was voluntarily provided this audiobook for free from the author, narrator, or publisher. This in no way affected nor influenced my thoughts.

CONCLUSION!?! No. Way. !?!?

Book 4, Akart tells us, is the conclusion to the Pandemic series.
What?? How can this be!?!
I’ve read - I don’t know, countless stand alone books and mostly series over the past 5 years in this genre. Some of the series were short and sweet, as this one claims to be, others stretch on and on... 7, 9, 12 novels.... No matter the length of the great stories, I never want them to end. I wish I could remain immersed in the world forged within a particular story forever.
That said, though the endings are always disappointing - much like a good friend moving overseas (parting is such sweet sorrow... ;) - I can say with certainty that 99% of the time I’ve felt satisfied as I swiped that last page. No matter how long or short the series, the whole story arch is present: beginning, middle, end. And all the bits and bobs that fill in the arch are present and accounted for. For the most part generally.
Here.... there is no end. And zero satisfaction.
We’re left with a mess of questions, “what if’s,” and what about THE ON-GOING WAR?? The TERRORISTS?!? What’s going to happen with all of that? That huge story line?? So many more...
The lead up to the ending of book 4, the last quarter - involved continued storyline creation, tension building, open question asking, mysteries to ponder and solve, and more. Due to this, until I reached the very last sentence I firmly believed it was yet another cliff hanger. Just the end of one “chapter” (book) and would be picked right up again with the next publication.
Then I remembered....
And was stunned.
And disappointed, really disappointed — but then hopeful.
Hopeful that the author will take an interest in the characters or story again, or his readers will cause him to rethink this “concluding” book. Because it really isn’t. At all.
A book 5, to wrap up ALL that was started anew in book 4. At the very least one more book needs to be written, while being careful not to write in any new storylines that can’t be resolved by the end of book 5 lol! (Or — feel free to just keep the series going past book 5!! Heck, how about umm... 3 more books?? :)

[====>— []’,+’,’,’,]
So.. PLEASE.. MR. AKART - a book 5 to truly conclude the story!!

Where is #5?

This series has been the best I've read in quite some time. We must have boom #5 Mr. Smart. I love this entire saga. So believable because of what is going on in the world today with the COVID-19 pandemic. It would so easy for the end of mankind in just this way. It's frightening! I absolutely love the characters in the series,
Mac, Hunter, Tommy, Barb, and so many others. Please don't leave us hanging Mr. Akart! Give us Book 5 quickly so that we can see Mac and Hunter save the world.

Almost Great

After reading the three book Pandemic series, I admire the continuity throughout, but I was frequently distracted by the stereo-typical dialogue and character development. This and a few typos frequently dropped me outside the story. The plot was very believable, but the dialogue and related character interaction...not so much.

Prescient!

I binge-read the entire Pandemic series from May 4 to May 11, 2020. While isolating and "distancing" at home in San Francisco. It has been amazing to compare the sequence of events from January 2020 to May 2020 to events as dramatized in this four-book Trilogy. Were it not for the copyright dates I would scream "plagiarism. "

But in today's political climate it's not unexpected that this scenario could play out. Our present Pandemic is not, to the extent we know, as transmissable or as lethal as pneumonic plague. But this little virus has destroyed, or is in the process of destroying, the world economy. Our COVID- 19 pandemic is changing things - forever. And the responsibility for that falls in the lap of governments world-wide who grew fat and lazy, neglecting to maintain a close watch on what's going on in the world of our common, almost indefatigable enemies - viral and bacterial pathogens.

We've been warned. Multiple times over multiple centuries. Multiple plagues and pandemics. Some new. Some repetetive. Some arising from the development of resistance to curative measures. Here we are, like the Preacher at home as flood waters rise. A truck comes by to rescue him. He says "No, God will provide!" That night the Preacher is on the 2nd floor as the flood rises and a boat comes by to rescue him. He says "No, the Lord will provide." Then the flood sweeps away his home and the preacher drowns, plaintively saying "Lord, why didn't you save me?" And God says to him "I sent a truck, I sent a boat! What more did you want? "

CDC, WHO and ALL health-protective agencies are understaffed and underfunded. But governments want GDP and guns instead of health. And all it took in the US for one fool to kill in 8 weeks more people than died in Vietnam over 10 years was just that - ignorance, arrogance, greed, and lack of perspective.

Buy this. Read this. Believe this.

This Pandemic series by Bobby Akart kept me obsessively reading from page one of the first book until the very last work of the book 4 epilogue. Overall, I would give the entire series a 4.5 star rating.

Each book had a bit of a different focus. In the first book, Beginnings, you met the main characters, and the author set up the large story of how ISIS terrorists planned on waging "the final jihaad" on the world by unleashing a super virus, impervious to antibiotics and without a cure, with a goal of eliminating about 99% of the world's population.

The second book was about the pandemic, the third book continued the pandemic and how world governments were dealing with this global chaos, and it all wrapped up in book 4.

I really enjoyed this series, but honestly, given that it was written in 2017, the parallels to the COVID outbreak were nothing short of chilling. It also really made me think about our government and it's response to pandemic, and kept me wondering about what they're not telling us. I found the government story line to be the most chilling and way more sinister than the plague itself.

Overall, I liked all the protagonists, I found the character of the POTUS interesting. I would have probably given the series five stars, but the last chapter of the final book and epilogue left me going "that's it?" It just kind of ended and it left me dissatisfied, which I found to be a real bummer after binge reading the series in 4 days.

I have never read any of Bobby Akart's books before and given my love of disaster films, apocalyptic fiction, and political intrigue, I am definitely going to start reading his entire library!

Book 4

I enjoyed this series right up until the point the author had two of the main characters make stupid decisions. As the author is brilliant, it was unnecessary. All that followed was totally predictable. Leaving their home unprotected with two senior parents left it open to attack. The missing, dead and fires should have been an indication there would be trouble. Risking their lives and exposing themselves to the plague in order to bring a cure to a corrupt politician was the single most stupid move the author could have made his characters do. Having the same politician already use her as a scapegoat and get her fired should have been indication enough. In the real world, the scientist would never have gotten out of that compound, nor would have her boyfriend gotten the cooperation of the military determined to take over their town. The whole speech about patriotism only makes sense when the government is not corrupt. Resorting to having characters make awful choices is the worse thing an author can do.i thought much more of this author and am disgusted he chose this route. The majority of this story was after the bad decisions. So for me, most of this book was predictable and substandard.

Hmmmmmm

I will steal a quote from the book. "Here is the world. Beautiful and terrible things will happen. Do not be afraid." .......let me change part of that Frederick Buechner quote. BE AFRAID.

This series should be something taught in schools. Thought provoking, teaches ethics, teamwork and community spirit. Most important is the question on the table. Should curing the diseased of the WORLD transcend politics?

Since this is book #4 I can speak more freely. I agree with Hunter all of the way. America first policy. Protect our military. Cure our diseased first. Let America be the leader and the strongest before the ones who attacked us. Mac and her Mom........... I am still "pondering" their beliefs.

Once again, excellent story. All of Bobby Akart's books leave you thinking. This one so much more. The idea of an epidemic scares the reader that it could happen so easily.

Once again, Mr. Akart has crafted a stunningly deep tale of disaster and hope. An ISIS manufactured virus has decimated earth's population with a seemingly incurable virus. The two main characters, Mac and Hunter literally risk life and limb trying to hold together their band of survivors and attempt to find a cure. As the series comes to a conclusion, Quietus gives us a scary look at how ruthless politics can be and at the same time, how strong the will to survive is. This is the final battle for the literal survival of the human race. Can Mac find the cure ? Can they get it to the people who need it ?? Will the gov't folks hiding in Cheyenne mountain interfere or hoard any cure ?? Read the conclusion to the frighteningly possible Pandemic series. Even if you are not a fan of the dystopian/post apocalypse genre, the thrills and chills in this series will grab you and not let go!

Great series

This was well written in a way that should open a lot of people's eyes. I truly believe that the plague and other diseases are being tested to use in war and I'm sure it's not just terrorists as our government is also probably doing the same. It's scary to know how fast this series could become a reality, I just hope that there are still enough moral people out there in high positions to stop it from becoming reality. And to Mr Akart plz write another book to this series. I feel like I know Mac and Hunter and would love to see it thru. It would also be nice to know what us survivors if this should happen would face on the rebuild. I learned a lot from these on how to prepare and get through the actual attack but we all know the rebuild will be just as scary and hard. Great work. Looking forward to reading your other works.

Day after day, mankind lurched toward the end—the quietus, seeking a final, merciful blow."

A stunning conclusion to the Pandemic Series. Bobby Akart has written a gripping finale to this series that kept me turning the pages until the end. All the different threads of the story, from Breckenridge, to Quandary Point, to Cheyenne Mountain, to Colorado Springs and Denver are slowly being intertwined until *BAM* they fit together like puzzle pieces into one exploding conclusion. The characters are real, the feelings are intense, the action is furious and the drama continues to build. This is Bobby Akart at his best. Highly, highly recommend.

5 Stars

This is one series that you will want to sit and devour at once with no disruptions. Quietus is the fourth book in the series. It will hook you right from the start. This one answers all of the questions that arose in the first three books, yet it left certain questions that arose unanswered.

Hunter, Mac and the rest of the characters will worm there way into your heart. Yet the story will make you more aware of your surroundings and the people you come across in life. I highly recommend this series to everyone. It is a must read, and although fiction, will make you more alert to viruses and the potential for more.

To Be Continued

I so hate cliffhangers! Some deem them necessary but I'm more of the belief that the best series are those where each book can stand alone as a completed tale unto it's own while also having each one seamlessly entwine to create and complete an overall much larger story. Not an easy feat but based on the works of other writers whose work I follow closely it can be done very successfully. Other than that this series continues to be one that I can't wait to jump back into and hate it when I have to put it down at any time, regardless of the reason. I can't wait to read the next part!

Beyond the end

What is the government doing? Are they working to perserve a free America or becoming an all-knowing big brother? Are they fighting against the ISIS terrorist cells bombing military bases and disease free towns across the US or following level 6 execution procedures? Are they setting up safe zones for unaffected people or are they turning out average, blue collar survivors to allow higher echelon, more valuable people to take over safe housing areas? Are they hoarding the pandemic cure so only Americans, and only certain Americans, are able to be cured, or are they trying to put America first?

Exceptional Series

As always I found myself galloping my way through this series - reading well into the night - and experiencing ‘edge of my seat’ anxiety while the characters struggle with evil, fight for freedom and strive for safety for family, friends and humanity.

This series is uncomfortably believable and heightens awareness and knowledge as do all of his books.

I hated to leave Mac & Hunter as they made their decision and I know they will go through hell to get ‘er done! I only wish there was another book about their future challenges.

Thank you for another excellent read!

Now on to Virus Hunters.

Good Series

The premise of this series is to educate people about the potential for a bio weapon attack. It gives good information on survival in a disaster. It takes into account many possibilities and describes real life policies, procedures and possible reactions by the government. It shows how civilization can crumble and the worst of human nature taking over. It's an interesting read, although the personal drama of the makes it a bit of a soap opera at times. The ending leaves the reader hanging quite a bit. It's a good light read.

I waited until I read all four in this series before I began to review. Knowing this could actually happen in today's world, make these books even more terrifying. With each book, I became more involved with the characters and Akart gave us more insight. A falling in love story in a time of world crisis, while millions die, leaves you hoping for the best and the good guys will triumph over the evil in the world. Drama, fear, love, kindness and the evil of mankind all rolled up into four great books.

"A Brilliant Series Needs To Be Read"

This fourth book in the series is the last story. Mac and Hunter now face the death of Mac's father, Tommy. It's time for humans to adapt or die. This is a thriller novel which could actually be our world's future, as terrorists try to wage deadly gases around the world...especially if it is a contagious pandemic. Gives you food for thought as to how we can prevent such disaster ... now that today's news is the Ebola disease, rated the worst ever, rages in the Congo.

OK - good story idea, execution needs work.

Story is pretty good. It kept me wanting to know "What's next?". I was a bit disappointed in how each of the 4 books end with a 'cliffhanger'. To me it cheapened the veracity of the story; made it more of a season ending of a TV show. It left you feeling like it was done on purpose to sell more books. I also felt so many of the storylines were left hanging all throughout the 4 books. You never really find out what happens to so many characters. Undecided if I want to read more of the author or not.

Thoroughly enjoyed reading

This is another great apocalyptic series by Bobby Akart. The characters are interesting and the storyline is really feasible. I do wish he had a little better ending to this one. Like the cure getting sent to Canada or other countries and them announcing it. I guess we have to assume that’s what happened.
This series also has a lot more political background and intrigue than the other two. If that’s your thing you’ll love this series even more than the blackout opt Yellowstone ones.

Too too real

With mankind’s tendency to hate, this is what could happen - an enemy of America unleashes a vile virus with a 100% mortality rate. While politicians argue out what to do death descends on the country. One man who leads the nation is utterly selfish and power hungry. In the meantime an amazing man with great knowledge of battles and an amazing woman with great knowledge of infectious diseases work together to save the world. So well written you don’t want to put it down until the very last word. I will say I didn’t care for the rather abrupt ending though.

Prepare to become paranoid for sure

This is a wonderful well written and informative book. It was written before COVID 19 outbreak but could have very easily been written during our now real pandemic. I could not put this series down. The characters were very well developed to the point I will miss them. The story line itself is so believable that I kept thinking the book had to have been written after COVID was discovered. If you are looking for an excellent read get this series.

Great series

And no profanity.........
I've read several of Akart's books and this four book series is one of the best.
I especially enjoyed it because he left out the profanity that had stopped me from reading his books.
I'm no prude, but I've said this in many reviews...... there is no need for profanity in books or anywhere else for that matter...
Akart's stories are really good, but for me, the profanity lessens my appeal greatly.
Thank you for this series you wrote without profanity.....I hope this will continue in your books

A satisfying series conclusion

I like this series and its premise. The science seems credible me as a nullify teacher and public health educator. I grew to love the main protagonists and despise the antagonists. Then, like in every group, there are those you kinda respect while not wanting to agree with them on all moral or behavioral issues. The author strikes a very good balance in addressing societal problems while writing a darn good story.

This ending book was really good until the last chapter. Great plot and exciting battle narrative. It ties most of the series up very nicely. I could have wished for a better ending though. Essentially it ends with the president making a typically "CYA" speech of a politician. ... and a declaration of love from the main couple.
all in all, I give the whole series a solid 5 stars. Good Job!
