A fantastic book for learning more about the power of modern digital cameras and how to use them. I love that Gordon explains the technique and setup for every shot, including camera settings. Furthermore, he proves that it's not the camera -- much of the time -- but the vision of the person behind the camera. That said, of course, there is some investment to be made in lenses, filters, tripods, etc. I also like that Gordon shows that it does not take a full-frame camera to make amazing images. His crop-sensor and micro four-thirds pictures are amazing.

Mirrorless Camera Use without Digital Processing After
What’s old is new again with a new technology twist. In Camera encourages you to snap the photo correctly “in camera” so that the image does not need after processing on your computer with a photo altering software to get the desired result. Getting proper light, and good composition by framing the photo was what we did back in the day of film photography before digital photography and photo editing software were invented.
Laing uses mirrorless digital cameras in this book. Many different cameras are used and they are identified.
The layout of the book uses a two page spread, A full-page photograph In color is on one page and there is text on the facing page which explains the camera used, and all the specs for the aperture, exposure, ISO, etc. There are four or five paragraphs of text for each shot which explains why he was drawn to photograph the subject, special considerations for that subject or location, lighting, and all kinds of practical information that will teach you the thought process behind it creatively and technically.
In this book I appreciate that the author has used a lot of process information because I am the type of learner that likes to understand the WHY and be told also the HOW instead of just being dictated as to HOW it was done.
There is a lot of information here, the beginner can learn from this, but this really has a level
of detail that intermediate and experts can understand, there is some technical speak which the beginners can ignore.
I am learning from this book and will put to use the parts of it that I can use with my camera, I will never own six or more mirrorless cameras and many different lenses for each, I don’t mind that this book contains more information than I could ever put to use. The photographs are beautiful and inspiring. Rating 5 stars= Love It.

This book as really all about taking the time to plan your photos in camera as opposed to shooting quickly and then "fixing" them later on the computer. The book is very nicely designed with exceptional images, smart commentary, and useful sidebars that provide essential camera settings at a glance. Overall, it is one of the more accessible photography books I've purchased.
If I had any complaint, and it is really quite a niggling one, it would be that some of the text seemed a little repetitive as I neared the end of its 200 plus pages. Overall, it is one of the better photography books I have read. Gordon's experience and passion for the subject shines through, and makes this book a winner.

Excellent advice
The photographer provides useful image data accompanied by lots of details about the choice of subject, challenges of the location, and best practices to capture great images “in camera”. The philosophy of “in camera” is approachable and worth considering. I will give the technique a try. The advantage of not requiring any post-processing is attractive. I’m not usually interested in jpeg since I shoot raw files. I recommend this book to anyone interested in the technique.

This book isn’t quite what I expected. I was looking for information on how to compose photos that are visually stunning without manipulating them in camera too much. Laing presents scads of gorgeous photos that are manipulated to the nth degree in camera, including using lots of presets that my 10-year old camera doesn’t even have. That being said, I did pick up some helpful tips, and I really loved the photos.

Per ogni foto, il racconto della sua realizzazione. Niente fotoritocco o post-produzione, l'autore pubblica gli scatti così come sono usciti dalla macchina fotografica, e dà consigli sulla fotografia. Gradevole da leggere più che da guardare (le foto, onestamente, non mi sono piaciute molto), utilissimo per imparare a scattare in certe situazioni.

It's weird, I learned at least one very practical tip from this book, but the content didn't capture my interest. I think it has more to do with my taste than the quality of the photos or the information provided.

Excellent book to know tips about better composition and extra things. Includes lots of examples and stories related to the examples.
