Qat Wanders is a full-time writer and editor with a unicorn and pug obsession. When she isn’t writing or editing books about unicorns or pugs (or owl shifters, vampires, werewolves, faeries, witches, angels, or succubi), she is likely eating sushi with her daughter or jumping out of a plane in the Rocky Mountains.
I especially enjoyed how the author's passion and enthusiasm for the subject spilled through the pages.
This author clearly understands on a deep level that all situations are unique. A wide range of personal considerations are discussed, always with suggestions and encouragement to find a way that's right for you. For many, the author shared one of her own experiences, or that of someone she's worked with. They were all positive and inspiring examples that there are different paths for different people, situations, and needs.
I'm a beginner, and I didn't go into this with much knowledge on the subject. I found the descriptions of different yoga styles, though brief, to be one of my favorite parts. I can't wait to go out and give some of them a try!
It was a truly encouraging read! This review also posted on Amazon.
I am completely new to Yoga and have suffered from fibromyalgia for 7 years & my life has shrunk to something I barely recognise. I won't sugar coat it; I am 50, very overweight, in pain all the time and am desperate to improve my quality of life. I am now vegetarian, don't smoke or drink alcohol. I minimise refined sugar and wheat and only drink green tea and hot water, so have already been making positive changes in my life. . I now feel 'drawn' to finding out about Yoga, so thought Qat's books were the place to start. I've now learnt enough to give me some idea of where to start in what is a very dauntingly huge subject! I only dropped a star in my rating because a lot of info was repeated in the two books I've read. If you're looking for a book which will explain things from a standing start of zero knowledge, then give this a try.
I am in the process of reading through every one of this authors books. I gave this one four stars instead of five just because it lacks the personality the others do have.
I can definitely tell it was her first book, and I’m glad she did a revised edition because it allowed insight into the history behind it. The part about her father passing away was especially touching.
I knew a little bit about yoga already, so I am indeed glad this book exists because it takes all of the hype and propaganda out of it.
Although I thought I was fairly well-versed in the terminology, reading this book showed me that I wasn’t at all. unless you are super advanced and have been studying the art of yoga for years, this is definitely worth picking up and reading through. It’s also a fairly short read.
Very motivating and practical. This book is for everyone, whatever their level of expertise, from no experience to years of involvement at a high level. As the author says, this is a book about customizing a Yoga practice for your own personal needs. One of the bonuses is the fact that she has been teaching Yoga (and numerous aspects of yoga) for a long time, so not only does she know the topic inside out, but she is also able to explain it in simple terms. It is written with passion and empathy, and I found it very engaging and easy to read. The self-assessment tool at the end is particularly helpful.
Over the years I've had so many questions regarding yoga and this book answers all of them!! Ms. Wanders uses her vast experience to describe and explain the many types of yoga practices and the benefits each have for our very different body types and spiritual needs. I truly believe this is a must read for everyone who wants to live a rich and full life.
THIS IS YOUR YOGA BOOK!!! What makes a book special is the life story and experience of the author, shared to the readers to relate more. Just by the introduction of this book, it sparks so much interest to read and learn further. I only have a few knowledge about yoga and this book gave me so much wisdom and a motivation to attend and enroll myself to yoga classes. It is highly recommended!
Wow, what a great read. Such a good primer for someone who wants to bring the benefits of yoga into their lives. Clear explanations and suggestions on how to get more out of your practice. I found the simple quizes at the end of the book really helpful in identifying the yoga styles that would work best for me.
