December Knight’s debut novel is riveting. Her characters, settings, and plot are well-developed wringing every emotion from the reader.

I felt I was lurking in the shadows watching the mystery unfold. The flower peddler’s cockney accent, the Devil’s madness, the fright & hopelessness of the kidnapped children are just a few examples of Ms. Knight’s ability to draw you into the story.

The Christian values interspersed throughout the story are not preachy, but are an intriguing part of the plot.

As book one draws to a close, you realize you simply cannot wait to read book two.

This novel had a gothic, melodramatic feel to it as it appeared to be set in 18th or 19th century England (although setting was vague). A good first novel that read quite easily.
I won a copy of this book from the author as part of the Goodreads Giveaways program.

Growing up, Toby Blake lived with his father, James Blake along with the servants that work in the mansion. His uncle and James younger brother, Clemit would often visit the duo. With only hearing stories and seeing the images of his mother, Toby had no remembrance of her since she died soon after giving birth. Toby's father has been searching for a governess for Toby and found the right one in Adelaide. As he grows up, there seems to be a darkness growing within the mansion with none of the Blake's suspecting anything.

Devil of Gilding is a book with a story that seems carefully crafted. Every action that happens has a repercussion later in the story. The effects of the action are not seen right away. This provides the sense of careful planning and creates this feeling of dumbfounded when finding out the effect it caused. The antagonist in the book is sound to being crafty and cunning which is a great personality to create an interesting storyline even if no one wants a friend or know someone like that.

This book had caused me a mini emotional rollercoaster because throughout the book the characters, actions and events that unfold were unexpected. It had made me felt sad, exasperation, anger and yearning to know more. Did I mention there was a dog? Just imagining the dog with Toby created the cutest scene; and personally, my favourite moments because there was a dog.

Devil of Gilding (Blake Duology) by December Knight is a Christian thriller that is compelling in both characters and plot. Written at an undated time in a small British territory, when lords reigned their lands and their favor is sought. Lord James takes steps to find a governess from his deceased wife’s family, namely her cousin Adelaide. His young son, Toby, is susceptible to illness and finds it is best to educate him at home. James younger brother, Clemit is often on hand to guide and nurture Toby. Clemit’s connections through his job become vital when this family is threatened with a bitterness that plagues their freedom, happiness, and even life. One evil act to cover a jealous deed leads to an even more horrific event. The snowball effect is magnified as lie builds upon a lie, malicious exploits persist.

December Knight draws a vivid picture of how bitterness can consume a person and those it touches. Devil of Gilding (Blake Duology) has multi layers of applications woven within the plot. Mainly; no matter the trials or tribulation that comes your way you must continue to trust and believe. Even if the answers to Toby’s prayers took time, his faithfulness was inspiring. The pace and intensity picked up as the drama increased. Each character had their own unique voice and vice. Written with issues we all face; jealousy, bitterness, love, and insecurities. This novel is both heartfelt and significant in application. The author’s ability to capture and lure the reader into her fictional world is mesmerizing. I was both in awe and disappointed when this novel ended. I am looking forward to getting the next book in this set, Fallen Angel.

Incredibly captivating and I can't wait for Part II. The characters are so real and the plot line is amazing. I will not give any spoilers, but what I will say is that this is a must read for any age, especially if you enjoy a good suspense/thriller. When you are reading you want to turn the page to find out what happens next. It ends in a place that makes you want to read more. All I can say is "Have you seen Toby Blake?" If you haven't you will want to read Devil of Gilding.

Such a great read. It is not your average Christian book. The author weaves an excellent tale of family, jealousy, deceit, loss, greed, grieving, and so much more. It ends on a cliff hanger so read Fallen Angel for a fabulous and incredibly moving conclusion.
