I think I can see why so many people like this. It seems like a close approximation to where canon could've gone. Unfortunately, it's just sooo bogged down with dates in this unconsensual 'romance'.

The relationship is written like a rapist struggling to convince his victim that he's not as bad as he could be. 90k words of this is just bad. It doesn't matter that he accepts that maybe what he did isn't okay. It really doesn't matter that in the end she was okay with it. It's just awful all around. Worse, it's not even slightly entertaining.

Parts of the first chapter and parts of the last chapter are what the synopsis is about. A better one would be: What happens when a prejudiced person is, on pain of lifelong slavery, forced to date someone with opposing beliefs. Not much.

An exceptionally well-written story with impeccable characterisation. As far as story goes, it is exactly what it claims to be on the cover - a romantic drama - but it is exciting because of the unpredictability of the two leads.

I do think it is worrying that Daphne is an out-and-out and unapologetic blood purist. The author's attempts to try to validate her views and create some balance that she needs to be 'understood' sounded like the appeasement some folks like to do of ractists. It was sickening to a degree. But flowed in well with Harry's ambitions and I was happy to see that he used her for his own agenda ultimately. A fun little ping pong match.

A really good fanfiction/romance, nonexplicit with a Harry/Daphne contract trope; very well written. Personally I don't like this Daphne (I wanted to send her a stinging hex or a soap mouthwash version every time she used "mudblood," to be honest), but she does suit a politically ambitious post-war Harry.
