Dark #2

Deceiver

Rate this book
The plan was to ruin a man’s life. Not seduce the man’s daughter. But sometimes, the unlikeliest of people becomes the target. And sometimes revenge can make a man vulnerable in ways he didn’t know existed…

I’m bored. Tired of my meaningless life. The garden parties, the white sundresses, and politely saying “no” to the sliver of cake—it’s the life my mother and father wanted for me, worked tirelessly for me to have. And the monotony makes me reckless.

But when I go to Blake Vandershall’s party, his dark, menacing eyes and his hard, unyielding stare make me want things that have never been offered to me before. He’s the type who would ravish you in your father’s law office. The kind who would lie without blinking an eye in order to get what he wants.

And the repressed bad girl in me wants to give him what he needs.

**

Daisy Nowell is nothing to me.

I don’t care that underneath that blue-blood lifestyle, she’s burning to be unleashed. My victim is her father—the one man who had the chance to save my mother from a brutal fate. The coward did nothing, and it’s my turn to make his life a living hell.

He’s about to lose his precious daughter to me, a man whose sole mission is to destroy him. I’ll do anything, say anything, in order to tear this woman from her safe life as I hurtle down my path towards destruction. But I didn’t count on her seeing through me. I didn’t count on her tapping into my weaknesses, pushing my dark heart in ways I don’t want. Ways I hate.

I need to find a way to exact my vengeance and leave this all behind. Before this woman ruins me for good.

This story picked up where Stranger: A Dark Stalker Romance left off, giving Blake Vandershall and Daisy Nowell the spotlight. While Daisy's sarcasm and great humor made me giggle a lot, Blake's character was almost a mirror image of Logan Kane from Stranger: A Dark Stalker Romance. Both male lead characters seemed to be cut from the same cloth and were almost interchangeable. The only difference between the two was wealth. Otherwise, they both had the self-loathing mindset from former hurts and misdirected their anger unto innocent targets.

Was this book dark? Not for me. Blake had a difficult upbringing that involved abuse but the fine details were minimal and not overly descriptive. This book is perfect for a reader who wants a hint of dark content with a lot of push-and-pull between the main characters.

► Overall, this was an okay read and I loved the heroine's attitude across-the-board. She was direct, determined, and not one to be undermined. She was also the perfect match for Blake.

'Deceiver" is book Two in the "A Dark Revenge Romance" Series. This is the story of Daisy Nowell and Blake Vandershall. I have read the previous book and feel that this can be a standalone book, if you choose to do so. Blake is out to get revenge on the man he thinks help cover up his father's dark past. Part of the plan to hurt the man is to go after his daughter, Daisy. Blake had met Daisy before although she doesn't seem to remember him at first. Blake had been attracted to her but now she has tried to down play her looks some. Daisy is trying to help her father with is law firm. Daisy's father is having some health issues. Daisy is attracted to Blake instantly too and doesn't know at first what he is up to. Daisy did hear him having a heated conversation with her father, but her attraction and curiosity as to what he is up to makes her go forward with seeing him again.
Blake's main focus was to be on the father but Daisy is making that hard to do.

This story!!! This incredible story that just keeps pulling me in. After reading the first book in this series, I wasn't sure how the author was going to top it, but OMG, she totally has. WOW!!!

To say that Blake has issues is a huge understatement. After years of protecting his sister from his evil father, even after his death, Blake is now out for revenge. What better way to get revenge than to kidnap the daughter of the man who helped cover up things Blake's father did, right? I mean, what could go wrong?

Daisy has been living a blah life. Don't get her wrong. She comes from money. Her father is a very successful lawyer, she's gone to college and could have her pick of any young southern man...if she wanted. But that's not something she wants. Nope. She seems to be searching for...more. What that more is, she's not sure. Until she meets Blake. There's that something she's been looking for and didn't even know until it was right in front of her. But the circumstances are very unconventional and before she knows it, she can't get enough of Blake. Does he feel the same or is she just the means to an end?

Like I stated earlier, this story just keeps getting better and better for me. Is there an over abundance of sex in this book? Yep, but it has everything to do with the relationship between Blake and Daisy and how it actually "helps" some of the healing (you'll understand when you read it). If you're anything like me, you'll walk away from this book having shed many tears for the pain that Blake had to deal with. But more importantly, from the love he finally gets from someone he doesn't deserve it from.

BTW - Holy Epilogue cliffhanger Batman!!!!! I'm SOOOOOOOOOO in....100%

*I received this book from the Jeep Diva in exchange for my honest opinion.

A revenge plot—of enemies to lovers—turns one of my reading screws, always.

But after the somewhat abrupt ending of the previous book—with a pairing that was difficult to buy into—I was rather hesitant about this one when the opening of ‘Deceiver’ was just as awkward and abrupt and seemingly without context: Blake Vandershall hosts a party to lure Daisy Novell in through seduction as part of his scheme to bring her father down. Like the first book, there’s a close stalker element to this as well, as Blake mows down the Lovells’ carefully-constructed lives and exults in it.

What I couldn’t really understand was how Daisy couldn’t quite see through his scheme or remain stubbornly oblivious to it, as Blake wasn’t at all subtle about it—that much she needed to cut herself free of the stifling lifestyle she lived that any ol’ distraction would do? In fact, I wondered why she wasn’t too suspicious, and was astounded even, when she dallied, played the game and flirted without quite having any 6th sense that something was off with Blake when he’d pretty much revealed he knew all about her and her family. Yet all it takes is an orgasm very early on to have Blake remorseful about his own behaviour while the simmering anger that he seems to carry around is enough to turn Daisy on.

Daisy in essence, is attracted to an arse of a man (which might be a trigger for some) but as the blurb unapologetically goes, don’t expect any ‘normal’ romance character traits here. As with a story like this, the turn from enemies to lovers can’t simply be an uneasy truce with sex thrown in for me; it’s made all the more difficult because I need more than the usual convincing that such a pairing—while not all sunshine and roses—is a viable one and it’s what I’ll be looking out for. To some extent they are the perfect pair in a twisted manner of speaking, as one uses the other for their own selfish motives consciously: Daisy as a means to break out of her caged life and Blake who uses her as an outlet.

Seen in this light, ‘Deceiver’ probably succeeds and for that reason, I’m not sure how to rate this read. But take a chance on this if you like hate (and taunting-type) sex, ambiguous and deviant relationships that defy every trope you like in romance.

Blake Vandershall is a man on a quest for vengeance. His target is the man he feels is responsible for allowing the death of his mother to happen. The easiest way to hurt the man is to go after the one thing he loves in life - his daughter. Kidnapping Daisy Nowell was always the plan. Being attracted to the beauty was not!

I really enjoyed this one. It was a little dark but not too much. It was well written and I enjoyed the characters of Blake and Daisy very much. The story has enough twists and turns to keep you flipping the pages. This is actually the second book in the series. A fact I had no idea of when I started reading. I wasn't lost at all so you can obviously read and enjoy this one without having read the first. I would definitely recommend this book.

Deceiver was book two in  Robin Lovett's Dark series. After reading Stranger a few weeks ago, I was super excited to read Deceiver as I wanted more of Blake Vandershire's story. He seemed incredibly angry in the first book and after that revelation at the end of Stranger I could understand why!

Blake Vandershire is in a path of vengeance. After learning that Emmett Nowell helped cover up the murder of his mother (at the hands of his father), he decided to get revenge on the man by kidnapping his daughter Daisy Nowell. But what Blake doesn't expect is the heated attraction he feels toward Daisy and the feelings and emotions he starts to feel for her.

I really enjoyed this novel. It was passionate, sexy and very intense. I loved that despite their need to pull away from each other, the strong attraction between them was too much of a pull. I loved Blake and Daisy's chemistry and the fact that Daisy wasn't a simpering damsel in distress. She was strong and sassy and gave as good as she got. I loved her! Like Stranger, Deceiver was also a psychological read but it was also a tad bit more emotional as we saw the resounding effects and wounds his mother's murder had on Blake.

All in all, I really enjoyed DECEIVER and look forward to reading the next book. I would like to thank Netgalley and the SMP Romance team for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Bravo! 4 Stars ~ Ratula

I LOVED IT!
Another mind blowing Dark Romamce from Robin Lovett. This series is seriously turning out to be one of the best series I've read so far. The twist in this story just made this book so awesome.
Blake Vandershall is out to ruin a man's life...... through his daughter. Unable to move on from his mother's murder, Blake is determined to see Emmett Novell in misery. He plots to get his revenge by using Daisy Novell. What he wasn't expecting was the explosive chemistry between them.
Daisy met him every step of the way, not accepting her faith at all. Everytime they butt heads, they ended up having some steamy sex.
Daisy wants to uncover every single one of Blake's secrets and instead ends up falling for him and is determined to help him move on.
I wasn't expecting Blake's history to be so heartbreaking but I looked forward to everytime him and Daisy clashed. The way she got him to open up and the strength she uses to deal with him made this book one of my favorite.
This was an amazing Dark Revenge Romance with lots of steamy sex but also alot of heartbreaking scenes. There isn't enough stars for me to properly rate this book. It was just that good! You guys definitely need to read this book.

I received Deceiver by Robin Lovett in an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I am giving this book 5 stars because the author did a wonderful job in this book with crafting these characters together. Book 2 from the dark series starts right off where book 1 left off. Now we start to understand why Blake Vandershall hates not only his father so much but also Emmett Novell, and why he wants revenge so bad. So in order to see Emmett suffer his going to take away something that mean so much to him his beautiful innocent daughter Daisy. The only problem is that this plan is going to backfire on him because he thought he was going to destroy Emmett little princess, but what Blake comes to realize is that Daisy has a dark side to herself too, and all Blake is doing is bring that side out of her. Unfortunately for him he's starting to fall in love with the not so innocent Daisy and she starting to fall for him, but once she finds out why he went after her was all to destroy her daddy will she be able to forgive him. I don't want to give away too much of the book away. I want you to just know that you are going to love this book because the writer continues to answer our questions that we had in the first book. So if you have not read book 1 you should to understand book 2 better. I fall in love with these characters because they both equaled each other out. For example Blake was this strong dark person who didn't care what people think, and Daisy was strong and never kept her mouth shut when Blake tried to scare or intimidate her she pushed right back. And that's why I really enjoyed this book because we got to see these two strong people come together in a dark but good way.

I read and enjoyed the first book in this series and was interested to see Blake get his own book and the main plot unfold more. We get such a deeper understanding of all things Blake. My heart broke for him quite a few time.

Blake was more amazing then he was in the first book. I loved being in his head and seeing his hate towards Daisy's father and him trying to come to terms with his past. He was sweet when he wasn't trying to be, and even with his lies he was a hottie! But I've always been a sucker for a "bad guy".

Daisy was hard to get a read on. I liked her character and how she was strange in her own right. She loved everything Blake dished out and that drew me to her more and more as the story went on. She didn't take crap which I liked. The fact that she never gave up on him was a huge plus in my book.

This book is centered around revenge but a romance developed and it was raw. I was fascinated with the different directions the author took the book. It kept me interested from start to finish. The author brings out the past, that if you read book 1, readers wondered about. The ending makes me anxiously await the next book!

Overall I really enjoyed it. I suggest reading the first book so you have a better sense on what is happening and why Blake is so angry. I can't wait to see what's going to happen in the next book! I'm so glad that Layla is going to get a book, and from the tease at the end of this, it's going to be HOT! 4 stars #2OCCJD

I received the book courtesy of the publisher in exchange for an honest review

I want to start off saying that I made a mistake with thinking that this book was a standalone. It is not. Apparently I should have read the first book, featuring different characters, to understand everything. Makes sense seeing as how I was at a complete loss when I first started reading. That being said, this review will not be affected by my mistake of not reading the first book. I did enough research into the events of the first book so that I could give this book a fair review.

I loved Daisy as a character, she was smart, funny, sarcastic just an all around great package. I did like Blake but felt that he was just a basic character. As a couple, it seemed a bit unhealthy, that being what Blake's intent was and Daisy being somehow oblivious to it all. It was an enemies-to-loves trope that, for me, felt hard to really believe. Which is really what I believe Lovett is trying to do with this story. Deceiver isn't supposed to be a typical enemies-to-love story, it's supposed to encapsulate that trope and wrap it into a dark and twisted plot line. In that way, this book is enjoyable and I would recommend it to people to love the dark and twisted romance stories, but again, don't make the mistake I made and make sure to read the first book first.

The second in the series, and we start with Blake Vandershire, he's determined to have his revenge for the death of his mother, by kidnapping the daughter of the man who he thinks is responsible for covering her murder and letting her killer get away Scott free.
The attraction he feels for her is a complication, it's something he hadn't anticipated. And the heated looks, and intense feelings will not cease between them.
This was a very passionate novel, very sexy. Blake was trying to debase Daisy, corrupt her sexually, but she enjoyed their sexual play and so did he. As time past they become partners in bed and Daisy showed she was stronger than she seemed. There's lot's of bedroom action in Deceiver, and Blake has a lot of emotional issues to content with his mother's death. A real page turner, and hard to put down when started.
A really enjoyable read, and I'm looking forward to the next book in this exciting series.

This book was a mirror, spitting image of the first book in this series. The only exception was the heroine. Daisy was fun, witty & sarcastic. I liked her personality & I liked her as a character. Blake our anti-hero was just like Logan (in the first book). I feel like all the author did was change his name. Blake had the same M.O as Logan when it came to revenge. I didn't think this book was dark by any means. I love the plot line of this book/series but, I think it was starting to get overshadowed by the sex (I can't believe I'm even saying that). I eventually started skipping through the sex scenes. Honestly, I would've just loved 2 or 3 really hot sex scenes not, a ton of mediocre, boring sex scenes that was used as filler. Will I read the 3rd book, yes because like I said the story is actually really good.

This book was definitely better than the first in the series. The story progressed in a good manner, and I felt the book was one whole book. Still the book do not require much though, it is more a book you read for entertainment.

The story it self has a better ground and understanding than the first book. I was happy that it kept to the original story all the way to the end. The end was a little rushed, but not too much that it was a problem. When it comes to the characters, only Blake seem to develop, and his development happens fast when he realizes his mistakes. The other characters are in this book, as the first, only in the book to serve a purpose. When their purpose is done they disappear out of the story, or just take up space.

You can read this book without having read the first one, but you will miss a few hints to the story in the first book. All in all, it is a quick read for a beach day or a boring rainy evening.

#SMPRomance What an amazing read...pulled me in from the first word and didn't let go till the word! Although called a trilogy, this is the second book and the first one I've read. I would know more about Penny, Logan and Layla if I read the first book but I didn't feel lost. This IS a dark romance with much sadness and rage. Blake blames Daisy's dad for the murder of his mother. For revenge, he kidnaps Daisy and tells her father that she'll be released when he dies (her father)! So much anger inside of Blake that results from buried rage against his abusive dad and sadness that he lost his mother at such a young age. What Blake doesn't expect is to fall for Daisy. Daisy realizes there's more to Blake and that there's a good man underneath, but he just has to let go of the anger, something Blake isn't willing to do...such an amazingly written book!

My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read.

Deceiver is the second book of this series, and I enjoyed it much more than Stranger: A Dark Stalker Romance, the first book. This time it's Blake's (Penny's brother) and Daisy's story. Blake is even more of a fucked up guy than Logan. He was abused heavily by his and Penny's father, and that abuse has take its toll on Blake's psyche. He's angry, seeking vengeance and just seething with malice. Daisy's father is the lawyer who helped his father cover up his misdeeds, or so Blake thinks. So, his brilliant plan to wreak vengeance upon Emmett is to kidnap Daisy and hold her against her will. In order for his plan to work, though, he has to tell Daisy he's kidnapping her, and why. So she'll know just how messed up a guy he is, and that she has no control over her fate, yet can't tell her father or he'll release evidence that will send her father to prison.

What Blake didn't count on, though, is that Daisy would not only go with him willingly, but that she'd enjoy being with him, because she's as twisted as he is. She gets off on annoying him, poking him, then watching him blow up and fuck her brains out afterward. Yeah...she's messed up too. But, she's got a brightness to her that Penny didn't have, it helps elevate Deceiver out of some of the bleakness that pervaded Stranger. "Her brightness, her curiosity, this need for fun that is so a part of her it's written in her skin and beating from her heart--it does things to me. It makes me want to take it and make it mine. It may be to relieve her of all her childish antics and tell her that life has nothing to do with the games she insists on playing. I want to destroy it and bathe in it at the same time. I don't want to need her, but something about the way she is and acts--I need it like I need air."

Daisy's funny, provocative and snarky. She's a much stronger character than Penny, which is the main reason why I enjoyed Deceiver much more than I enjoyed Stranger. It certainly isn't because I like Blake, because, just like with Logan, I can't stand Blake. I feel for him, but I don't like him at all. He was twisted by his father's abuse and it made him into a wholly unlikable, ridiculous character. He never redeemed himself in my eyes. Yes, he apologized eventually, but I still couldn't find it in myself to like him. Daisy was truly messed up to love a man like him.

Is Deceiver dark as it says in the title? No, not at all. Gray and a little bleak, but not truly dark. If you want dark, read A Zavarelli's Underworld series (Crow, Reaper, Ghost, Saint) or Tillie Cole's Scarred Souls series (Raze, Reap, Ravage, Riot). Now those women know how to write dark, truly dark, twisted stuff that makes you fear for their characters. Deceiver isn't dark, it's not particularly pleasant or romantic, but it's not dark. So if dark is what you're looking for, you won't find it in Deceiver, or in Stranger, either. Instead if you're looking for a kind of depressing, gray tale of vengeance and a little bit of kidnapping, then Deceiver is the story for you.

Thanks to Netgalley and St. Martin’s Press Swerve for ARC in exchange for honest review.

Second book of Dark Romance.
Penny's (1st book) brother Blake’s story. He has been keeping secrets from his sister about his father and his abuse toward him. He felt guilty that he couldn’t save his mother from his father even though he was only 5-6 years old. Now he is taking his time off to visit home to have one goal in his life, find the lawyer who covered up everything his father has done. Now he would revenge by kidnapping the only daughter from the lawyer.
He was finally back home and meets Daisy for the first time. It was to lure her in before he was about to kidnap and get to know her a bit. Blake has been closely following her since college years. He knew who she was and he was just looking for the right time. Now time has come, he threatens Daisy’s father and kidnaps her.
Daisy was working at his father’s office and he sees Blake shows up at his father’s office. She wanted some excitement in her life and when Blake offers a dinner even though her father forbids she jumps at the chance. What she didn’t know was she was kidnapped by Blake. Now she trapped in his house but she doesn’t feel she is being threaten enough to run away. She sees he is hiding something really deep inside him and she wants to help.
Blakes has kept all his anger inside him and he wanted to control everything but Daisy wasn’t easy to control. He wanted to find the truth and make Daisy father’s life as miserable as his was. However more time Blake spends with Daisy, he opens up to her and tells secrets he never told anyone else even his sister. Now line is blurred between Daisy and Blake.
When he had to take Daisy to his aunt’s house, his sister and her husband shows and makes his plan more complicated. There were secrets he wanted to keep it to himself but Daisy encourages him to tell the truth to his sister. Plus he is slowly falling for Daisy and he doesn’t know if he can keep it up again.
Not only Daisy is calming him, his father’s news about his father and how he wasn’t the person he thought he was. Blake wants more with Daisy and get back to being happy....
It was good as first one. It was heartbreaking to read about Blake’s childhood how his father abused him and used him and how it drove him to become who he was. This is definitely dark and relationship between Daisy and Blake were great and nice to see Penny and Logan.
I can’t wait to read the third one about another Penny and Blake’s half brother..

It pains me to say that I was disappointed in this follow up to Stranger. I really liked Stranger and was looking forward to Deceiver. This book starts off where Stranger left off.

As I said, I’m so disappointed because I really liked the first book. I will hold out hope that the third book, Keeper, will redeem this trilogy.

I received an ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review, so here goes:

Overall, I enjoyed this book and the story. It was one of the most passionate books I think I've ever read. The author does an amazing job with the sex scenes; the intensity and passion are palpable. I really liked the character of Blake a lot. I had a tougher time liking Daisy, however. She certainly is a strong heroine, and I loved that she had such strength and stood by Blake, but parts of her behavior, particularly her frequent thoughts about being so bored, seemed so childish to me. Just when I'd start to like her, she'd lapse back into one of those thought patterns, and I'd get agitated all over again. Apparently this is the second book in the series, which I didn't realize going in. I felt like I was missing some important pieces by not having read the other story first, but I was able to figure it all out based on what is said here, so I agree that it can be a standalone (although it's probably more enjoyable if read in order of the series). The storyline itself is quite interesting, but I spent the first part of the book confused about what was going on. For instance, why was Daisy setting off the sprinklers at Blake's party (apparently she was just bored?), and why was he having the party to begin with (we learn why later, I guess, but it still felt disjointed). Anyway, once I got past the very confusing first part of the book, I enjoyed most of the rest of it. This is the first book I've read by this author, and I would be interested in reading more.

Dnf. I just couldn't get into this one. Plus the book got on my shelf at a time my mother had just passed. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
