Summer love is quietly brewing in the urban beachtown of Far Rockaway, New York.
For Daniel Jacobs, a gift of yummy chocolate wrapped in a thick beard & six-foot frame, love and attention from women are seemingly a constant. Raised by his doting Caribbean mother and grandmother, he is one of the most well-liked and successful bachelors in the neighborhood. However, there is a secret void in his heart that he is desperately seeking to fill.
Asha Martin is a petite, curvy, quick-witted independent spirit. Her wounds from a bout of young love keep her heart guarded. She appears unbothered to most, but her disposition is actually a defense mechanism stemming from a traumatic childhood event. Her refusal to let love bog her down could possibly cripple her chance at something real.
When Daniel and Asha cross paths, their past secrets, present lies and future desires create a hot, sweet tale of summer love.
LAS is a writer of Caribbean descent who enjoys coffee, pizza, crime dramas and people watching. She lives in New York with her husband and two children.
I'm sad to say I finished this story. I really enjoyed getting lost in the life of Daniel & Asha. The character development of both were greatly done. I wanted to get lost in Daniels massive frame and meet up with Aasha for drinks. I wanted to say yeah Girl to Cleo. I wanted to have dinner with Mavis and Maw. I'm sure I will give this another trad before the summer is over. Chocolate Solstice is truly the hot summer read you need on your to be read list. I'm hoping to hear more about a Daniel and Asha in a future story.
This book was amazing! I found myself literally laughing aloud and trying to imitate the accents of the characters! I fell in love with all of the characters, especially Daniel and Asha. I hope there is a book 2??? 🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽. Thanks for the amazing storyline and exceptional writing!
The writing was exquisite. The scene, the characters and the language of this book are very familiar and I felt a sense of connection with these characters. The humor, tensity and drama of this great read makes it hard to put it down. Looking forward to reading more from this amazing author.
I was so sad to see it end. I was at work on break angry. I wanna know more about Asha and Daniel. I want to know more about how similar their childhoods were. I want to see more growth and if it is everlasting. Great couple and how many relationships start. Can't wait to see the author tomorrow. Great book. Definitely will read again.
This story was so freaking cute. I love how poetically written it was. As popular and anormaous was Hersh is, Asha was always able to soften him up. Mavis and Maw spoiled Harsh, which meant he was she to getting his way. Asha however wasn't like the others, she's rare and forward. Something Herhs isn't use too, but soon comes close too. The story is really tight knitted when it comes to love and affection and family. I love the display of the Caribbean, I've always found their culture intriguing. This book has all kinds feel good moments, Hersh is that kind of guy, yet stubborn. Everything about Asha to him felt right and was right. I really enjoyed this one and hope to read others similar to it.
There are many characters, some of them I don't think we needed to know, and they could have remained nameless. Cleo could have been a better friend. I don't like snarky and I think Asha will drop her and become friends with Karen and Jade. Good job, las. Toni Mariani Author
DNf @ 44%... I've tried many, many times to pick this up and finish... but even forty percent in, things were still moving very slow for the main characters. Besides, I felt no connection to them.
OMG! This book was so good! I couldn't get enough of Asha and Daniel. I absolutely love the way the writer chose to ease them into a loving relationship. They went from hot and heavy summer lovers with no labels to loving each other, but denying it. It was so realistic. Why do we do that in relationships?
This story had me spellbound in a way that both teased and intrigued me. Daniel aka Hershey was the ideal man. Tall, dark handsome, polite, friendly ... I could go on and on. It was so sad to know how he really felt inside. It just goes to show you never know what people are going through.
The book ended on a HEA, but I would love to read a sequel or at the very least a special edition epilogue. I need more.
This was my first book by this author, one of my favorite authors gifted the book in our group.
Although it was a little slow and it left me lost at times, I really enjoyed this book. I loved the authenticity of the story and the characters. I've been in Asha's shoes, felt like the author was telling my story, lbs. Her friend and his cousin irked my nerves, made me wanna choke them😂 Flings don't usually stay flings, not when you mix chemistry, great convo, dinner/movie and each others places, date nights on the town, introducing family and friends, oh let's not forget the amazing my blowing sex. Love always eventually finds it's way in and who doesn't love love. Great read, you won't be disappointed.
Oh my, I really enjoyed this read. That Daniel, whew. What a description! Ibloved all the characters. I was wanted to join Asha and Cleo for girls night. That Mavis and Maw was the best. I laughed so much in this book. I enjoyed it. I just wanted more at the end. That is the only thing. Hopefully, I will her more about this couple in a book about Cleo.
It took a few chapters to get to the gist of the story, and to be able to follow the island dialogue. Daniel was an unassuming man who was more than what was shown on the surface. He was beautiful, intelligent and a ladies man. When he and Asha made their connection it was unexpectedly amazing.. Stick with the story, as it builds into an nice read.
Took a minute to finally figure out the storyline. It sort of jumped back in time from time to time which kind of lost me for a sec. But I wouldn't mind a second story with more of what happens next with Daniel and Asha's relationship and more on her friend Cleo and Daniel's cousin Jeremy
Asha and Daniel were kindred spirits, they both were afraid because of their pasts. Their "situationship" was complicated and simple at the same time. They went with the flow, but they didn't open up as much as they should've. They would've realized that they had a lot more in common. Daniel's sessions could have been explored more, but it was a good read.
Asha and Daniel's love story was definetly a GOOD read. You could feel their chemistry through the author's words. So relatable!! I couldn't stop turning the pages
A great read. A refreshing change of writing styles compared to my usual reads and very well written. Loved Danielle and Asha. I also loved the banter with some of the other characters. I found some of the conversations to be very funny. A very enjoyable read.
I was gravitated to this story from the beginning to the end. I hope there's a part 2. I was able to relate to all the characters. The story line is awesome. I would def recommend this book its a great Read!!
I loved this book! Took a while to get into it, but the characters quickly grew on me. The pacing was excellent and everything felt real! I can't say enough good things about it.
I really liked this book. Hersh and Asha had so many reservations. I don't like the way the book is ended. I hope there is more to come from these two.
I enjoyed this book. It was the perfect easy read. The characters are very relatable and their stories individually were interesting and watching them navigate throughout the novel was enjoyable. Great book club read as there are many points for discussion.
Chocolate Solstice was a breath of fresh air for me. It was a unique story of opposites attract, a love between Daniel and Asha. Daniel who is somewhat of stoic and reserved, but mature. He has a settle intellect, where he's book smart and street smart. Asha, a woman with hyponotic beautiful eyes had the intelligence to go along with her looks, unlike Diamond (Daniel's Ex). What made the story refreshing were both characters' backgrounds and from 'wince they came.' It was nice to read about characters who were simply hard-working with complex families who had their own expectations for them. Despite what has happened in the past, they just may decide to allow love to lead the way.
