We all have choices in life… paths to take… roads to follow…. It’s on those journeys that Fate finds us and takes us where we need to be. Without a second glance, we can be taken away from everything we knew, the "people we love" and given a new life. One that can change us… save us… What would you do if Fate dropped you at a crossroads? Would you go back? Or would you run like hell the other way?
One night is all it took to change Sidney Chandler and Simon McAllister’s future and set them both on separate paths. But when Fate decides to reunite them almost a decade later will Simon be able to win back the woman he loves? And will Sidney be able to get past what happened between them and move forward?
Emersyn Valis is an author from the east coast, but not the beachy part. When she's not carting her three kids, a cat who thinks he's human, and a hamster who eats Reese's around, she can be seen with a book in her hand or on her face when she drops it from falling asleep and reading.
In an effort to branch out in my reading, I have really been trying to step outside of my comfort realm and find new authors that haven’t crossed my path before. In doing so, I happened upon a new Indie author, Emersyn Vallis, and her Fate Series, which includes Adjournment, Hanging Pawns, Sacrifice, and End Game. The intrigue and mystery of the series kept me on the edge of my seat, and the adorable characters and light-hearted humor were just the icing on the cake to this sweet romance!
Except for Fate #2, Hanging Pawns, which was Mea and Josh’s story, Simon and Sydney were the main characters in the series. I’ll admit that I was initially thrown by them together, but their relationship transitioned so much throughout the story. Their back and forth banter was really funny, and it led into this great slow burning passion between them. Simon and Sydney’s story was very touching, and once I understood everything they had been through together, I found myself rooting for them to have a happily ever after!
My favorite of Vallis’s writing is how well she developed this intriguing cast of characters and how intricately woven they were in each other’s lives. Each had so much so much depth but were so fun and down to earth with completely quirky behaviors. I completely adored them all once I got to know them better, and I enjoyed watching their relationships unfold and seeing how they connected together as friends, lovers, and family. I especially loved the crazy family feel between them all – this was definitely a family I can relate to!
I am very impressed with Vallis’s creativity in this series. It was full of mystery, passion, and my goodness, it has so many layers to it. There was a great balance of being a complex story, yet it was still fun. The foreshadowing was terrific, and the underlying mystery with chess and the pieces were very well played throughout. The books and series are quite long, and I really enjoyed the details and plot development, which built my intrigue, and made the story complete. Early on, I did have some issues with wordiness and the pace (particularly in Fate #1, Adjournment), but the flow of the writing grew in leaps and bounds throughout the series!
I had such a hard time taking breaks in between the books, and with that great conclusion, I definitely recommend this series! Emersyn Vallis certainly can write, and I think this was a great debut for her writing career. I am curious to see what her creative talent will bring next!
…As a side note, I also have to admit that I am a huge fan of the Reece’s cups too, which only makes this series more of a win-win for me. You’ll see what I mean when you read this!

Read my full reviews for each book of the Fate Series!
Book #1 Adjournment- Emmersyn Vallis is new to me, I never know what to expect with new to me authors as I avoid reading reviews on the book I'm going to read. I am glad I didn't read the reviews on this one as it may have prevented me from reading it. Yes it starts out slow, it did take me awhile to get into and the heroine is not my favorite as she's bit childish but the book redeems itself. This story centers around the Chandler sisters and the McAllistar triplets, but is Simon and Sydney's story. Sydney walked away from the life she grew up in, changed everything about her life. Walked away from the world of socialites and tea to become a makeup artist in Hollywood. She has new goals and a new life but has to come home for her parents vow renewal. Home to her sisters and the McAllistar boys. To Simon. The boy she loved is now a man, can she handle being around the person she left behind? The only man she's ever let get close to her.
Okay so I was hard on the book in the beginning, it was a slow start and I wasn't a huge fan of Sydney, at the end I still think she was a bit childish but this book was good enough to make me want to read next in the series, and considering this one left us hanging it's a necessity!!
Book #2 Hanging Pawns- Hanging Pawns in book 2 in the Fate Series but reads more like a prequel to the series. Following Adjournment I was looking for some closure with book 2 but it wasn't to be. This is a quick read that tells Mea and Josh's story. We met them in Adjournment but didn't know too much about them. I enjoyed their story, Mea's struggles, Josh's quiet persistence. Other than the fact that I expected book 2 to follow book one this one was a good read. I did fall for Josh and Mea but was really hoping for Simon and Sydney in this one.
Book #3 Sacrifice- What in the ever loving hell is the author thinking??? Yet another cliffhanger only this one is worse. I could not believe the end of this book. My kindle was thrown at the nearest piece of furniture that would not destroy it while I cursed the authors evil brain for doing this to me yet again. I've got to get to book four asap and pray this author has come to her senses and gives us what we want!! So this one starts out with Simon and Sydney basically in a relationship, something that kind of came as a shock. It seems I'm missing some pieces between books two and three, hopefully book four will answer all my questions and NOT end in a cliffhanger!! This series has been up and down for me but I've been unable to stop, I absolutely have to know how it ends.
Book #4 End Game- FINALLY!! The end is here, secrets are out in the open, reality is a bit different than anyone imagined but in the end everyone gets exactly what the deserve! I waited so long to get to the end, I had read the first three books almost back to back and loved it but completely forgot about book 4 when it came out, I'm not sure how I missed it, I had to go back and refresh my memory with the end of book three going into #4 but it all came back to me in those few pages at the end of Sacrifice and I was sucked right back into Simon and Sydney's rocky relationship.
I love this series, I really adore each and every book. I can't believe I lost track of the series and it took so long for me to realize it but I can honestly say it was well worth the wait. This book is packed with suspense but it quickly begins to unravel. It's well paced and keeps you guessing and borderline begging to find out exactly who's at fault for what. Loved each and every page.
These books are what got me hooked on this author. They really pull you into the story of the characters. I think its amazing to have these books all in one box set. I just loved these books they are full of love and exploration and what fate has in store for you in your life and the turns it takes you on and through.
Sydney is absolutly my favorite character. She struggles so much with her circumstances and what she left behind to jump start her career.
I just cant express how much you must read these books they are absolutely amazing and you will love them. You will adore each and every character this author introduces to you. I guarantee it.
I just adore this author. she is one of my favorite authors by far. She has a massive writing talent and in my opinion she should be up there with the best number 1 authors
