Now Jae’s editor wants her to put her travel story on hold to cover the crime. Meanwhile, she is assigned to work with Colin Bloom, a handsome and talented photographer who is frustratingly quiet. And family drama from back East is finding its way to Jae in Denver.
Can she keep herself together, personally and professionally, while she tries to solve the case of the eccentric heiress? Read Assignment Denver: The Case of the Eccentric Heiress and find out today!
Lucey Phillips lives in West Virginia with her husband, her son, an overgrown dog that loves them, and a geriatric cat that barely tolerates them. Lucey has worked as a newspaper reporter and as a nurse. She loves writing about characters who are fun but flawed. They are people who want to do the right thing, but sometimes fall short of that ideal. Most of all, they’re loyal friends who help each other through unexpected adventures.

Jae Lovejoy is a travel reporter and her latest assignment has brought her to Denver to cover the local attractions of the place. But when a wealthy woman is found murdered mysteriously, her years of crime reporting instincts kick into action. The usual suspects are being round up: a disgruntled tenant, an ex-boyfriend and gold digging relatives. With the help of Colin, her photographer, they unravel the mystery.
This book has all the elements of a good cozy mystery: work pressure to continue this story instead of focusing on her travel pieces, a hint of a new love being formed for her handsome photographer, a best friend back home and family drama in the form of her mom. Honestly, i am looking forward to read the next book in the series.
I liked it, but I’m not really into cozy mysteries. The characters were ok and the storyline was decent. For those who like cozy mysteries, they will like the story.
It isn't often that I choose to read a cozy mystery, but when I do it's always a delight when the book turns out to be as fun and entertaining a read as Lucey Phillips' Assignment Denver: The Case of the Eccentric Heiress.
Former news reporter turned travel writer, Jae Lovejoy, and her photographer Colin are on assignment in Denver to write a travel article. Looking to find some interesting and quirky people to interview who embody the unique spirit of Colorado's capital city, they visit an odd antique shop and stumble onto a dead body. The corpse turns out to be the shop owner, an eccentric heiress, the richest woman in Colorado and one of the wealthiest women in the country.
Quickly everything spins out of control when Lovejoys' editor presses her back into service as a news reporter to cover the story which rapidly goes national. Reluctantly she agrees. She and Colin end up in full sleuth mode in an attempt to uncover the truth about the murder when a local craft brewery owner Lovejoy had interviewed previously is tagged as the murder suspect and immediately arrested on some dubious evidence.
This entertaining and humorous cozy includes all the features of a beach-read winner—great writing, a cast of well-drawn characters, and a plot that mixes money, deceit, and murder. Expect a quick pace and a lot of fun. I was provided with a complimentary copy of this book, through Reading Deals so I could give an honest review.
Assignment Denver had all the elements a good cozy needs - great plot, interesting characters and a lead character that has a good heart but is slightly flawed. There were a couple of editing glitches such as referring to the character Autumn as August a couple of times
Very nice read! Enjoyed the characters and all of the little side visits around Denver for Jae's travel articles. The murder mystery was a bonus and it was very entertaining. I look forward to reading more of Jae's adventures.

Good story! but the heroine was a tad slow to join up the dots. The answer was obvious but dragged on until she hit on it. Can a reporter and her cameraman solve the mystery? The characters were real and the storyline was a nice twist on the ordinary but as mentioned a bit slow to work it out (especially for a reporter). However in spite of that a good solid mystery.
This was a good easy read, though somewhat predictable, a nice cozy mystery. The characters are likeable, and there were a couple humorous points in the book.

Pop Sugar Challenge Prompt: A book by or about a journalist.
This is a very well written story that has good characters that are very likeable and are able to grab the readers into a fabulous story. Am looking into the next in the series.
Whatever the story, truth will out. Interesting take on being a writer. Fluff piece versus hard news, it's all writing. Liked the friends plus question that pops up when you deal with opposite sex partners.
