I absolutely ADORE this series. It has quickly become a top favorite of mine since the first book was published. Since then, I have devoured these reads in one sitting and had a huge smile plastered on my face! Fans of lovely romance novels- the ones that will make your heart beat a million miles an hour- need to pick up this book (and frankly, the entire series!). You won't be disappointed! I sincerely hope that Jenn McKinlay continues this series.

So I liked this one quite a bit. This group of friend in Bluff Point, Maine are starting to feel like old friends already. I was pulled into this romance from the very start and enjoyed it until the very end. This book had the perfect combination of cute animals, darling kids, and a couple destined to be together.
Zach doesn't know what to expect when he finds two adorable little girls at his door. They need his help because their kitten, Chaos, is currently sitting on the roof of Zach's house. Being the nice guy he is, he jumps into help right away saving the kitten and landing in a big pile of snow. I thought the set up of this story was great but things got even better when Zach decided to make sure his neighbor and her two girls are okay during the blizzard that hit the area.
I thought the characters in this book were wonderful. At the start of the series, Jessie seemed like the bad guy but things have changed as the series has progressed. Once I got the chance to spend a few moments in her head during this story, I completely changed my opinion of her. She really is a great character and has had a lot of things in her life go horribly wrong. Zach was such a good guy. He really was perfect with Jessie's girls and worked hard to be what they needed him to be.
I loved Zach and Jessie as a couple. They had so much fun together from the very start and the chemistry between them was amazing. Zach's relationship with both of her girls was equally well done. I really liked how both Jessie and Zach keep their focus on the girls and their best interest. It really did feel like this group of people belonged with each other. It was really refreshing to see the kids play such an important role in the book but don't worry there are plenty of steamy moments to balance everything out.
The book was really good but I did have couple of issues. I thought that some of the interactions with the larger group were a bit immature. I thought it was rather odd that a grown woman would go into another room during a situation to ask her friends for advice in a group chat. This group of friends didn't hesitate to share some pretty personal details. I kept thinking that if Zach and Jessie would just be that open with each other it would solve a lot of problems. The other issue I had concerned a situation with the girls' grandfather. He was really a difficult man and I thought that his complete change of heart seemed a bit unrealistic. These were really very minor issues that didn't lessen my enjoyment of the book.
I would highly recommend this book to fans of contemporary romance. This is the third book in the series but it could easily be read as a stand alone. Readers of the series will enjoy spending time with characters featured in the earlier books. I can't wait to read more from this talented author very soon.

Every once in a while I like to take a break from mysteries and enjoy a little romance. Thanks to Jenn McKinlay, last few months I have fallen in love with the residents of Bluff Point, Maine. This third book in the series is the story of Zach Caine, local brewery owner, and his neighbor, Jessie Connelly. He doesn’t do commitment and she is getting over a rocky divorce.
Zach meets Jessie’s daughters when he answers the pounding on his front door. They beg him to help rescue their kitten from a very precarious situation. He soon finds himself wanting to not only spend more time with the girls but their mother as well. When a snowstorm hits and the city loses power Zach decides to take his dog and ride out the storm with Jessie and the girls. They all get very close, like a real family, but will the sparks remain when the power comes back on and daily life, jobs, friends, and ex-inlaws enter the picture?
Both Zach and Jessie have been hurt in the past and have put up walls. Their relationship happens very quickly but they do learn a lot about each other while snowed in. It was Zach’s relationship with Maddie and Gracie that warmed my heart right up. Their father is not involved in their lives at all and Zach sees a huge void that needs to be filled. He pitches right in, reading bedtime stories, having snowball fights and even nurtures their new musical talents. He also steps up to protect the girls and Jessie when someone makes some very unreasonable demands. A minor character plays a huge part in this drama that didn’t have to happen. I wanted to reach into the pages and give the woman a high five and a hug.
Jenn McKinlay continues to create strong characters that I have quickly come to love, including some adorable pets. Their dialogues are perfect, dramatic when need be, and funny when appropriate. The romantic moments were passionate and vivid. The chemistry was apparent from the beginning and continued to grow as the characters evolved in their realization that they could really be happy together for more than just a fling. I was very impressed at how fleshed all of the characters were. We really got to know Maddie and Gracie too. They are a huge part of the story, not background characters. They are both seen and heard. Jessie is an excellent mother and it shows in her girl’s thoughts and actions.
The friend dynamic drives the story in some critical moments. Jessie has not really had a group of friends supporting her before but she is easily accepted into the group of Zach’s friends. She has a huge secret and is brave enough to share it with her new girlfriends in the group. Zach needs a little help understanding that yes, he is falling in love, and his friends make him aware as only true friends can.
I have loved each book in this series. They are stories life, love, and friendship. Heartwarming, every one. I cannot pick a favorite, I recommend all three. Every Dog Has His Day is a perfect book to curl up and read in front of a fire on a cold winter’s night. This romance will warm you right up and the happy ending will leave a huge smile on your face. I am beyond excited for the next book in this series.

Coffee dates with Every Dog Has His Day
First Date: Zachary Caine and Jessie Connelly briefly met at the vets where she gave him the "what for." So I was excited to see their romance unfold. It turns out the two are neighbors and thanks to a kitten named Chaos things are about to get interesting. McKinley had me grinning during the first scene as she set the story up. I knew I was in for a treat and settled down with a second cup of coffee.
Second Date: Previous characters and adorable animals added to this story, as Zack and Jessie become friends. I adored Zack. He is this laid back happy go lucky, smart guy who is good with kids and animals. I enjoyed getting his backstory. Now Jessica, on the other hand, I was nervous about. Her reputation in this series hasn't been warm and fuzzy, but we all know there are two sides to every story and by the time Every Dog Has His Day rolled around I wanted her to be accepted. Spending time with her and her children soon had me wanting her to have a happily ever after. The romance built slowly with tender kisses and unexpected heat. It felt genuine with a couple of Hallmark moments woven into the tale.
Third Date: The drama comes from an outside source as attraction and friendship develop into something more. McKinley gave us a villain and scary situation that will have you flipping the pages and forgetting your coffee. Everything felt realistic, even the girls' actions and I loved the animals roles in the story. I laughed, cheered and sighed before McKinlay brought this date to its delightful conclusion. Every Dog Has His Day is one of those stories that hit every aspect of a perfect contemporary romance. It is humorous, witty, well written, and romantic. This is the third story in the romantic comedy Bluff Point series and is a great addition to the others and it tugged a bit on the heartstrings of this reader.
Zach Caine runs a brewery with his close friends and is a commitment-phobic bachelor. He compartmentalizes his relationships with women in certain categories and Jessie somehow doesn’t fit into any of them. Hmm. He’s drawn in to their cozy family of 3 when the girls foster kitten needs rescuing. Then a blizzard hits Bluff Point and he ends up helping them out during the power outage. Hanging with them showed him how much he liked it and how Jessie is looking very attractive. He realizes now that he wants more than just a hookup. He hits a few bumps along the way with Jessie but he ultimately has her best intentions for her and her daughters. I liked Zach and how he went the extra mile for Jessie and the girls. He is one of the good guys and he deserves a family of his own.
Jessie Connelly is getting a second chance now that she is divorced and making a nice life for her and her two daughters, Maddie and Gracie. The last thing she needs is a man like Zach in her life. No thanks! Been there and done that. Her preconceived idea of what he was like was so off the mark she had to put those thoughts aside and see Zach for the good man he really is. He is good with her girls and helps her when she needs it. She feels like her thoughts and feelings finally matter to someone and she is reveling in it. Over the course of the story, both Jessie and Zach grew and learned to trust one another and count on others for help.
The main characters of this story were easy to like and cheer for them to find their happily ever after. Both had pasts that had a whole lot of hurt, and when they found their way to one another it was extremely satisfying. Along the way the Maine crew of Zach’s close friends, who always have his back, make appearances throughout the story, and add fun and lightheartedness. Between the pets and the girls, you got a double dose of cuteness and I loved it. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading each of these stories but I think this story touched my heart a little bit more. I can relate to Zach and his plight. If you are a fan of Jill Shalvis and Kristan Higgins, you will love these books.

The Bluff Point series is quickly turning into a must read for me. It's been so fun reading about all these quirky characters and the bonds they all share as a core group. This time we got a very interesting pairing of characters. Jessie is actually someone most would originally hate on a first impression. She actually stole one of the previous MC's groom on their wedding day. Yup, Jessie helped the groom make a mad dash at his own wedding and then turned around and married him herself. So, right there I was not a fan of her. Who steals someone else's fiance? However, you soon realize that she's not that young entitled woman she used to be. She's older, mature, wiser, a mother, and has battled a hardship of a marriage with her ex-husband. So in a way, she sort of saved Mac from a horrible marriage by stealing the guy in the first place. Then you have Zach who appears to be a complete player, but is actually a sweet guy. He just doesn't like to get attached because things never work out and he's just tired of being discarded goods. So, when these two meet it was electric, and not in the good way.
One thing I really liked about this story was Zach. He was someone who went through the foster system and got moved around a lot. His fiance left him, only to marry another man a handful of months later. He acts like things don't bother him, but he's really self-conscious. So, when he gets wrangled into helping Jessie and her girls out, he finds himself becoming attached to not only her, but the girls as well. He starts finding little excuses to be around them and is there whenever they need him. I just loved that he wasn't intimidated by the fact that she was a mother of two little girls.
I have really enjoyed this series so far. I love that it mixes romance with animals. Mainly because I'm a sucker for animals and I love romance novels. So, when you mix the two together you have the perfect combo. I do wish the covers were done differently to reflect the actual characters within the pages. For instance, our main guy is supposed to be in his 30's. For some reason, the guy on the cover reminds me of Richard Gere. However, the story itself is great. The author was able to take a character that may be a bit hard to like, and made you instantly fall in love with her. I loved their easy relationship, the humor the girls added, and getting to see all the previous characters again. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

This was an adorable contemporary romance. If you are a lover of a cutesy romance and animals, I would absolutely recommend this book to you! The chemistry in this book was enough to make me swoon, so as an avid contemporary romance reader, read this book!!
The first thing that I really enjoyed about this book were the characters. I loved the two little girls in the beginning. They were so cute and innocent. When I got further into this book, I realized that I had fallen in love with Zach's character. He was adorable and capturing from the beginning. There were a few times where his character pulled on my heart strings. His home life was interesting to learn about. I've rarely read a book with a foster child, so it was great to learn about the experience.
The chemistry between Zach and Jessie was very hard not to notice. Jenn McKinlay did a great job with showing just how well these two worked together. From the beginning, I was rooting for them. I liked how just like in every relationship, there were points of angst and it shows that even in romance novels, not every relationship is perfect.
Again, contemporary romance lovers, read this!! I couldn't say it enough that you will fall in love with this story. As an animal lover and romance reader, this was easily a great book. It's short, sweet, and has a great narrative. I would love to give Jenn McKinlay's other books in the Bluff Point series a read!

This is a great series about members of the "Maine Crew" living in Bluff Point, Maine. Each book is the romance of a different character, so it is not necessary to read the other books to enjoy this one. This book finds Zach, the playboy of the group, falling for his neighbour Jessie and her two little girls. The story does not go smoothly, as there are roadblocks in the way both emotionally and from Jessie's ex-father-in-law. We do meet Jessie in the last book where she makes it very clear she wants nothing to do with her playboy neighbour, but when they meet up under different circumstances, things change. Zach is more of a father to her children than their real father and the promise he makes to her has the rest of the crew making bets with one another.
The characters in this book are wonderful. I love how the friends are there for each other, through thick and thin. They spend a lot of time together and when they think Jessie and Zach are a good match, you know they are going to do what they need to, in order to help them get together. Once again it is the pets that help bring them together as well as adding some fun to the story.
This book is funny, romantic, sweet, humorous making it fun to read. I can't wait for the series to continue so I can see what is in store for Jillian, at least I hope it is not finished. I recommend this series to romance lovers and pet lovers. Although there are some sex scenes, they are not too heavy or erotic. I lovely romance that will definitely tug at your heart strings. We are introduced to Zachary who owns a brewery and doesn't have the word commitment in his vocabulary. Then there is Jessie, a mother of two, who is deeply committed to being the best mother that she can be. Zachary and Jessie are neighbors but have never met. When a kitten named Chaos and two little girls decide to have an adventure the two are thrown together. Both are a bit unsure of the other and opinions begin to form. Jessie doesn't realize that you can't judge a book by its cover, or by past relationships. Will she open her heart to trust and let things happen naturally before judging Zachary? Will Zachary be open to commitment or is he the playboy Jessie thinks he is and has been all his life? With a blend of great characters McKinlay is able to create a story filled with a pinch of sadness, lots of laughs and an abundance of love. I laughed, cried and smiled throughout and was deeply moved emotionally but this charming book.

I actually ended up reading this book twice because I didn’t write my review for it when I finished the first time. I went back to refresh my memory to write one and instead I found myself sucked back in to reading it all over again.
Maddie, Gracie and Zach truly stole the show in this book. Two adorable girls and a really, really nice guy who might just be a little misunderstood equals all of the swoons. I loved reading how Zach interacted with the girls like he himself was a kid but at the same time was teaching them to be kind, strong women and to treat their mother with respect.
I love how protective Jessie was of her kids, but how she was still willing to open herself to Zach and how she always stood up for herself against her father-in-law. I think her and Zach were a perfect match and I loved how their relationship developed.
I really enjoyed how the whole group of friends interacted with each other. Nothing was sacred between them but their undying support for each other was awesome. Their word games were the best! I loved getting to know the whole crew, as this is my first time reading a book in this series, and I can’t wait to read the other books

Loved this beautifully written and told romance story of new love for two lonely people. This has a wonderful romantic feel but also gives you gooey and sensual moments. The flow is perfect and I simply could not put this book down – LOVED IT!
Maddie and Gracie stole the show in this story, in my opinion, their connection with Zach and humour throughout the story was fantastic. The way the author puts them all together in a snowstorm for two days allows you to believe the connection building at such a fast pace. It was interesting that the author gave each daughter her own characteristics and it allowed you to love them in their own way. The way Zach was with the girls was simply one of my favourite parts of this book. Wait until you see the Ukelele scene at the school concert – sweet and lovely!

EVERY DOG HAS ITS DAY is the third book in Jenn McKinlay’s Bluff Point series. This book is definitely my favorite book in the series. While I had some slight issues with the first two books, I really felt like McKinlay found her groove with this one. Still very much lighthearted, I think I was finally in the right mindset to enjoy this book. If you’re a fan of snowy/cozy reads, animals and cute/humor, then I think you’ll enjoy this book. I would describe McKinlay’s heroes to be more cute than hot, which is not a bad thing at all. I think I’m actually leaning towards that type in my books these days. Maybe I’m just tired of all the alpha types in fiction so reading about Zachery Caine was nice.
Similarly, the heroine is Jessie Connelly who is a divorced mother so she has a lot on her plate. Despite that, she is as charming as ever. Again, she has a sweet vibe to her that I really enjoyed and I found the combination of the hero and heroine’s personalities in this one to be a lot of fun.
As you can expect with the title, there’s some animals in this book. Plus I’m a huge sucker for stories that are set in the wintertime. I think this book just gave off that cozy cute vibe that I was looking forward. I was in a bad mood when I started this book and by the time I was finished reading, my mood had lifted considerably.
EVERY DOG HAS ITS DAY is definitely my favorite book in the series. I am looking forward to seeing what McKinlay has in store for her readers next!

I liked this. I wasn't sure if I would like the heroine given her past actions, but she was really nice and someone who had really been done a number on by her neglectful parents and her cheating husband who drained her confidence. But now she has rebuilt herself, trying to raise her two adorable daughters by herself, the hero is her neighbour and someone who keeps things casual with women. But somehow he gets pulled into the life of her kids. This book was super sweet but I enjoyed it since I was looking for something like that.

Every Dog Has His Day was a sweet romance with a great cast of characters and a few adorable animal companions.
Zachary Caine was enjoying his bachelor life just fine when a kitten named Chaos throws his life into, well, chaos. After Zach rescues the neighbor's kitten from his roof, he finds his life slowly becoming intertwined with the girl next door and her daughters. After the pain her ex-husband put her through, Jessie Connelly has no time for men as she's focusing all of her energy on raising her daughters Maddie and Gracie. When a snowstorm brings Zach and Jessie together, they fall into an easy friendship with attraction simmering just below the surface. When Jessie's easy life with her daughters is put into question, Jessie and Zach will have to decide if they're willing to risk everything for a shot at becoming a family.
Jessie hasn't had the best luck with men in her life and ended up with a man who worked her over pretty good before the relationship ended. As a result, Jessie has a hard time trusting people and can't stand even the smallest lie. Jessie loves her daughters more than anything in the world and would do anything to ensure they are safe and happy. Jessie didn't have the best upbringing, raised by parents who told her she was an unwanted accident, so she is determined her girls will never doubt they are loved.
Zach spends most of his time running the brewery he owns and is quite dedicated to his job. He's great with his employees and wants to make a difference in the community he calls home. Zach is the most easy going in his friend group and can always be counted on for a good time. He's great with kids and enjoys their blunt and truthful manner. It's no secret that Zach is a commitment-phobe who avoids permanent relationships with women if he can help it.
Jessie and Zach have a fairly easy going relationship once Jessie realizes he's not like her ex-husband. They fall into an easy friendship and Zach becomes fairly close to Maddie and Gracie. Jessie is definitely the more reserved of the two about their relationship but Zach isn't without his own hesitations. There's an interesting little twist to the physical side of their relationship and I enjoyed the way it was handled. Some of the scenes are incredibly sexy and the sexual chemistry between Jessie and Zach is fantastic. The only downside to their relationship was how quickly everything progressed. I had a bit of a hard time buying into such a quick connection and wish things had been slowed down a bit.
Zach's group of friends, referred to as the Maine crew, are absolutely wonderful. The friendships between the characters is just fantastic and felt very realistic. There is a plot line involving Jessie's ex-husband's father that I felt was unnecessary. It seemed like it was only used to drive everything forward at a quicker pace and to create some tension. I feel if this point was left out I would have enjoyed the book more.
Every Dog Has His Day was an enjoyable read that moved a bit fast for my taste but was still fun to read. I'm definitely interested in reading the first two books in the series and hope to get to them soon.

Every Dog Has His Day is Jenn McKinlay’s final offering in the Bluff Point series. For fans, you’ll be happy to hear that the previous pairs play a prominent role in their friend, Zach’s, story. For people starting here...I think the constant appearances could be very annoying. In fact, it could have been enough to turn me off from the story entirely if I didn’t have history with these characters.
I’m just going to jump right in and say what a disappointment this was for me. The number one reason is because the first half of this book was so fabulous and fun, and then it fell so spectacularly apart. In previous installments (and even in this one,) Zach was purported to be a playboy. There was no hint of that man in this book. And as far as Jessie goes, there was zero character growth. I feel like all of her growth happened before this book, which I didn’t appreciate. That meant a lot of needless drama on Jessie and Zach’s road to happily ever after, all of which screamed contrived. Not to mention this was incredibly insta ‘she’s the one for me’ from the supposed confirmed bachelor. And the fact that he called Jessie ‘my girl’ was such a turn off for me and left a bad taste in my mouth every time he said it. I also feel like I was supposed to feel bad for Jessie, and I just didn’t. This is a woman who sat outside of a church, waiting for the groom who was leaving his bride at the altar, essentially as his ‘getaway ride, to later marry him. Did she expect he was going to be a stand up guy? He wasn’t. He was an alcoholic jerk who treated her like trash, and I can’t help but think she got exactly what she deserved after the part she played in his first attempt at marriage.
As for secondary characters, they outshone Zach and Jessie’s story in spades for me. Like I mentioned previously, I enjoyed seeing Zach’s friend group again, and I loved the way they pulled Jessie and her family right into the fold. But another gripe I have are the women, who have known Zach for years, and had a few chances to go to bat for him with Jessie, but do they do that? No, they don’t. And it made me feel bad for Zach, and I couldn’t help but wonder ‘with friends like these, who needs enemies?’ I also liked Jessie’s girls. They were given a lot of page time, but they really enhanced the story, and I never felt like they overwhelmed the plot. It’s just that Jessie and Zach’s story was so lackluster the girls stood out. Also, Mac's aunts (Mac is from the first book in this series) were a brilliant addition as always, and the extra we learn about one of them was priceless. I also liked the pets, Rufus and Chaos, but didn't care for how long it took Jessie and Zach to decide to keep them. Also, Jessie did something so terrible near the end of this book, and instead of the author having her woman up and apologize, something terrible happens that draws Zach and Jessie back together. The grovel that Zach so richly deserved never came, and it made me loathe Jessie. At the end of this book, I knew what Jessie saw in Zach, but I could never figure out exactly what it was he saw in her. And it left me feeling bad for him thinking he was such a good guy who was getting the short end of the stick. It also made me forget everything I even loved about the first half.
Not only was this particular book a huge disappointment as a series ender, but there were clearly two other stories in need of telling, and I don’t think we’re going to get them. Way too much time was spent building up tension on stories we’re never going to see, and I feel letdown. I will say that while this book was a miss for me, I enjoy this author's writing overall and want to read more from her. She has a way of writing that I feel is unique and fun, and it makes you want to be a part of the families she creates.

"Yeoooow!"
A stranded kitten wakens Zach Caine and introduces him to his neighbor's adorable daughters, Maddie and Gracie. A rescue mission gone awry puts neighbor Jessie into his life as well.
This is the third book in the Bluff Point series and my favorite so far. I didn't thing Jenn McKinlay could top the foul mouthed parrot from the last book, but the little girls absolutely do! I really enjoyed the pace of the book. I liked that Zach and Jessie didn't have "insta-love" and fall immediately into bed together.
I love the addition of Chaos the kitten and Rufus, the fashion forward standard poodle. Zach seems more down to earth with the animals and the girls.
Characters from previous books are back and it's nice to catch up with them. Jessie is a bit of a loner and outcast after stealing Mac's fiancé. She unfortunately got the worst end of that bargain. I'm happy to see her working in a job she enjoys and being a great mom.
There are of course a few rough spots here and there on the path to a relationship. I felt that it was well done and certainly believable. I look forward to reading the next book to see who is up for a new relationship. I'm sure that Jessie, Zach, Gracie , Maddie , Chaos and Rufus will be back as well.

Zachary Caine is not looking for relationship, been there done that. He is quite content, happy really with his life. Running the brewery, hanging with his crew, female companionship whenever he feels the need and fostering Rufus fills Zach’s life.
Jessica Connelly definitely does not have the time nor inclination for a relationship. As a single mother to Grace and Maddie and working full-time, she is not interested in finding a man. And she is definitely not interested in a player like her neighbor, Zach.
So, when Chaos, the kitten that Jessie and her girls are fostering, escapes and ends up on Zach’s roof, neither are expecting to be more than just friendly neighbors after Zach rescues Chaos. But when a particularly bad blizzard knocks out the power and Zach and Rufus come to stay with Jessie and the girls, friendship takes a very intimate turn.
Can Jessie trust again after being so badly treated by her ex-husband? Is Zach willing to put his heart out there again after being left by his fiancée so many years ago?
McKinlay weaves a colorful tale with humor and just enough romance to leave the reader breathless. I want to be part of the Bluff Point Maine crew and can’t wait for the next book in the series. Five stars.

This is such a delightful story, each character added a realistic and heartfelt aspect to the romance. Zach was just wonderful and sweet, especially to Jessie’s little girls. It wasn’t just a sexy little romance, it was also a heartwarming story of two little girls finding joy as well. This quick read truly touched my heart.

This was a new author for me and I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Very good story line and had me laughing out loud in places.

This was more enjoyable than the previous book in the series. This couple is likeable. The story was okay. I hoped the story would take a different turn. I liked the ending, but there was some unnecessary drama. It was worked out quickly and easily, though. Also, the animals were delightful.

I am absolutely determined to listen to more audiobooks this year than I did last year. So, to start off the year right, I decided to listen to Every Dog Has His Day by Jenn McKlinay. I had heard good things about it, and it was available through my library's hoopla site. Every Dog Had His Day was cute and I enjoyed it, but it's not going to stick with me, either.
Every Dog Has His Day is about single mother Jessie Connelly and her neighbor Zachary Caine, a brewery owner. Although they are neighbors, and do know each other, they don't really KNOW each other. Until Jessie and her daughters' foster kitten wanders over to Zach's house. Soon Jessie and Zack are getting closer, and of course they fall for each other.
There was a lot I enjoyed about this one. Zach was definitely a hero I could get behind. Although he isn't really into commitment, he has his reasons for being wary of it. He's just such a nice guy; one who will always go out of his way to help someone in need. He definitely stepped up to help Jessie, and that made my heart smile.
Jessie was sweet and adorable and completely devoted to her daughters. She is determined to make sure they are happy and loved even though their father (her ex-husband) pretty much abandoned them. Jessie is understandably a little wary of starting something with Zach, but of course she can'r resist him for long.
I was definitely rooting for Zack and Jessie to figure things out. They were just so cute together and I wanted them to be happy. Are they a couple that will stick with me forever? No, but that's okay. That said, things definitely got a little cutesy for my tastes. I obviously love the romance, but it was a bit heavy on the cheese, in my opinion.
I did have a few issues with this story, but they are minor, and have a lot to do with my own personal reading tastes. Honestly, they are pretty small, and not really worth going into detail. If you enjoy small-town contemporary romance featuring an all-around nice guy hero, totally look into Every Dog Has His Day by Jenn McKinlay. EVERY DOG HAS ITS DAY is the third book in Jenn McKinlay’s Bluff Point series. This book is definitely my favorite book in the series. While I had some slight issues with the first two books, I really felt like McKinlay found her groove with this one. Still very much lighthearted, I think I was finally in the right mindset to enjoy this book.
If you’re a fan of snowy/cozy reads, animals and cute/humor, then I think you’ll enjoy this book. I would describe McKinlay’s heroes to be more cute than hot, which is not a bad thing at all. I think I’m actually leaning towards that type in my books these days. Maybe I’m just tired of all the alpha types in fiction so reading about Zachery Caine was nice.
Similarly, the heroine is Jessie Connelly who is a divorced mother so she has a lot on her plate. Despite that, she is as charming as ever. Again, she has a sweet vibe to her that I really enjoyed and I found the combination of the hero and heroine’s personalities in this one to be a lot of fun.
As you can expect with the title, there’s some animals in this book. Plus I’m a huge sucker for stories that are set in the wintertime. I think this book just gave off that cozy cute vibe that I was looking forward. I was in a bad mood when I started this book and by the time I was finished reading, my mood had lifted considerably.
EVERY DOG HAS ITS DAY is definitely my favorite book in the series. I am looking forward to seeing what McKinlay has in store for her readers next!

I fell in love Jenn McKinlay’s books years ago. There’s something so sweet about her stories, I can’t stay away. Every Dog Has His Day is the third book in her Bluff Point series, but can be read as a standalone without any issue. It brings together Zach, a local brewery owner that has a commitment phobia, and Jessie, his divorced neighbor with two kids.
What I loved about this book wasn’t just the romance between Zach and Jessie, but the relationship that Zach developed with Jessie’s two little girls, Maddie and Gracie. With their father not in the picture, Zach very easily and naturally filled that void, which made he and Jessie’s romance transition almost perfectly. Of course, all new relationships aren’t without hesitation or hiccups, and the two of them have to overcome a few minor ones in order to discover that their happily ever after is right in front of their faces.
Ms. McKinlay once again delivered with Every Dog Has His Day. It’s smart, funny, heartwarming and absolutely adorable. If you’re looking for a romance that will make you feel warm and fuzzy inside, this is the book (and series) for you.

Charming, funny, sweet- this wintery new entry in Jenn McKinlay's first romance series, Bluff Point, is a solid romance and enjoyable story. I really enjoyed the female lead character, Jessie, who isn't a perfect "dream girl" type character- she once served as escape car and future wife of a man leaving his fiancee at the alter, and now is a shy single mom with relatable body image issues and family struggles. Zach, the male lead, is a handsome but deceptively sensitive and engaging workaholic who is thoroughly charmed by Jessie and her two daughters. This is a great romance that is also about family as Jessie and Zach's story is also about their connection with her children. McKinlay really finds her stride with the series in this book- it felt like the most down to earth, realistic book in the series yet, and I think she's really figured out how to have a familiar style without trying to also use some of the zaniness or quirkiness that appropriately features in her cozy mysteries.

Every Dog Has His Day is the third book in Jenn McKinlay’s Bluff Point series. Although the characters and relationships have been fully established in the prior two books, I had no probably getting into the story or the characters without having read them.
Neighbors Jessie Connelly and Zachary Caine don’t have the best reputations. One is known as a player and the other as a relationship-wrecker. It takes Jessie’s adorable daughters and a stranded kitten to throw these two together. Their budding relationship progresses pretty quickly. Both Zach and Jessie profess their desire to remain unattached, but it only takes a snowstorm and a couple days without power for the two of them to hook up and fall into coupledom. As they get to know one another, so does the reader, and their individual backgrounds make it clear why they make the perfect couple.
For me, the highlight of the book was not the romance, but Jessie’s adorable daughters. They hooked Zach just as quickly as me! Jessie's prior lack of sexual satisfaction didn't add anything to the story for me, and her instant bond with Zach's female friends felt unrealistic. Jessie’s ex-father-in-law is a horrible man who wields threats to mask his disappointment and sadness. The angst and conflict he creates could have been further developed for meatier drama, but it is fairly easily resolved.
For fans of sweet, light romances, Every Dog Has His Day will be a hit. The plot is simple and straightforward, the characters are well developed, and the story flows nicely. Refreshingly, Ms. McKinlay has created truly normal characters—no dominating alpha males, no subordinate, pin-up girl bombshells. Who could resist adorable animals, cute-incarnate kids, a little humor, and a heart-felt romance?
