Being unexpectedly tasked with caring for his adorable ten-month-old niece is more than Detective Joel Wolfsley can handle. He's on sick leave with one leg in a cast after a drug dealer mowed him down with a car. But Joel's a sucker for his sister—all four of his sisters—and the munchkin's mom needs his help. Thing is, Joel needs help, too. Isn't that what next door neighbors are for?
One look at the tough-talking "Big Bad Wolf" cradling a baby in his arms and kennel owner Willa Darling knows he's all bark, no bite. Joel might need assistance chasing after his niece, but he's completely capable otherwise, and a family man at heart. Which means that in spite of the tension that simmers between them while caring for the infant, Willa will have to let him go.
I often read of or hear about authors who knew they were meant to tell stories from the time they left the crib. Me? I didn't decide what I wanted to be when I grew up until I was thirty years old - and then sold my first book at thirty-four. Still, it was obvious that I always knew I was going places.
Like so many other authors, I was a voracious reader from day one, devouring everything from Nancy Drew to My Friend Flicka, which I remember sitting hovered over the heater vent in the kitchen floor to read while my father made his coffee.
I moved on to my mother's Phyllis Whitney, Dorothy Eden, and Mary Stewart gothics before discovering my first true romances written by Lucy Walker and set in the Australian Outback. And then, at last, when I was 18 I found 'The Flame and the Flower'. (My son almost spent his life as Brandon because of that, but I spared him and named him Casey instead!)
Why write romance? Because love stories have always been a major part of the books I've loved. Father Ralph and Meggie Cleary. (I did name my daughter Megan after reading The Thorn Birds! Do you see a trend here?) The aforementioned Brandon Birmingham and Heather Simmons. Wolf Mackenzie and Mary Potter.
Even more so, it's because I love writing romance heroes. The men who sweep both heroines and readers off their feet - not to mention their authors, too!
I've spent several years happily writing action adventure romance for Kensington Brava along with hot and sexy series romances for Harlequin Blaze. Now I'm thrilled to be a launch author for Vows.
Blurb: He's having a hard time managing on his own...so how did asking his neighbor for a favor get so complicated?

How can she do anything else when he's not the family man she'd thought?
Willa rescues and boards dogs for a living so this gained a 3rd star. Nice cop action when there is a gas station holdup. I didn't buy the romance, lots of skipping 2nd half of book. And end argument dragged out, is old and boring. Light and fluffy.
Loved first half of story with Friends to Lovers romance and really enjoyed the scenes with Hero taking care of his niece and her work with dogs. At this point it was a 4 star read. However, once the Heroine found out she was pregnant, it went off the rails for me. The Heroine was negative and jumped to conclusions often and made assumptions about how the Hero felt and what he might do. It was frustrating there was no conversation bewteen the couple that would have been mature, and clarified emotions and fears. I did not enjoy the angsty last half, and the more I read, the less I enjoyed it, and eventually the story lost 2 Stars for me. Final Rating: 2 Stars Toasted from my Ebook Library as I won't re-read.

This book started out a bit heavy handed with character descriptions, especially of Joel Wolfsley. Once we actually got into the relationship which is what the entire book was about, it was better, but needed more action. It would have been good to see more interaction with other characters and even with the bad guy. What was written was enjoyable but the plot needed to be expanded from a Joel’s self talk of career vs. relationship with Willa.
I really like this author and enjoyed this book that was apparently update of a previously released Harlequin book. And so glad it was available on KU. It was a good 3.5 star book. I think it could have been a bit longer to better develop the characters and their relationship. It felt a little rushed and I was glad that she changed the title on the update.
After long, hard day curling up with this fast paced and intense novel was perfect. I love the chemistry of the couple who are the subjects. Yes, there is lust and passion but underneath is something more they struggle to admit. The journey is worth the price of admission with this wonder filled readable book.
Parts were good, I enjoyed the storyline and characters. Was not fond of the third party analysts sections. When that was going on I felt disconnected from story. If it had been removed and refined I would have given it a five star.
I honestly thought this was going to be better than it was while I was reading it. I don't know what it was but it seemed like the characters didn't really engage me as a reader as I thought they would. Hence, why it took me almost 2 months to read this.
Allison Kent has the most beautiful writing style, lyrical, melodic even. The words caress you and hold you tight as you feel what these characters are feeling... except maybe gunshot wounds. Witty, dramatic, spicy and a joy to read.
This story was the sweetest way to find love an family. Alison Kent certainly has a way with words and touching her reader right in the feels. Thanks for a great read!
I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys stories that are funny, steamy, suspenseful, and romantic, with strong characters both male and female. Well done
