To preserve their stellar public appearance, the Carters and Andrews families decide to marry their children together in hopes of saving their jewellery store. Emmaline Andrews is aghast by the notion of marrying the son of her father’s enemy and Roman Carter is just as unhappy not having a say in his own future. The two find themselves at odds with each other and barely speaking. One fateful morning, Roman has had enough of the charade and does something which unleashes the floodgates of passion in both him and his new bride.
The two are torn between wanting to explore their feelings for each other and remaining loyal to their fathers. Their only hope for happiness is that their fathers can finally reconcile their differences but by that point will it be too late for love?

So I've never had much luck on these short story books that contain a bunch of bonus materials. Thought I'd try again but this story had some issues though I did finish the original story. Had it been longer I may not have finished it even. Pacing for a short story can be difficult and unfortunately this one had significant issues. It jumped around and felt very disjointed. It's hard to really know what time period the book was meant to portray. I was under impression that it was probably early 1900's and in America. The premise of the story was interesting. Two men who were once best friends combine their jewelry businesses and through the last couple years they became enemies and the business was failing because of it. The confidence of the bankers and patrons was compromised by the animosity. Their wives decide to marry the son to the daughter of the other. Both of which feel they must continue the animosity out of loyalty to their respective fathers. While the story premise had pottential unfortunately it was so not fleshed out well. The story also had numerous editing issues primarily the use of a word that was similar. For example her instead of he. The love making scenes seemed like they came out of the blue and really didn't fit. MILD SPOILER ALERT. I don't mind suspending disbelief some but this book seemed to only use the historical plot devices that worked with their plan for the story and ignored pesky details that seemed more like a modern story. It was like the author wanted this to be considered a spicey read but those love scenes are short and lack emotion. I probably won't read further into the bonus materials.
