I rarely finish a book from start to finish. The first 3 tactics were eye opening and etched into my brain: eat the biggest frog first, just do the first 10 minutes, and reward yourself for progress. I wish I read this book in college.
To be fair I skimmed the tips, having skipped the first half of the book which is just preamble on what procrastination is and why it’s bad. Yes i get it. If i hadn’t just finished a different book on the same topic with the same points but i did so i didn’t need it or want it. The suggestions/tips themselves were utterly basic. Anyone that has struggled with procrastination will have already tried these. If you are brand new to the world (eg high school, college, work) it may be helpful to review them. Also as someone with ADD some of these suggestions/tips are actually counter productive. If you are completely unaffected by ADD type mindset and are able to plan and execute everything you set your mind to but simply lack organizational skills or have simply never tried to not procrastinate then this might be for you. It probably won’t help the ‘I tried everything else but it’s a constant battle, give me some new ideas or specific strategies’ among us. Some tip examples: turn off your phone to eliminate digital distractions, hire someone to do the boring stuff.
Damon made a simple, straightforward, useful, reliable book on how we can overcome one of the main challenges to productivity today. Based on his personal experience and supported by research, this book is a highly-valuable asset. Every year I teach around 400 students at the University. This book is worth being recommended to them all. It's a life changing perl.
I know some people found value in this book because I did see several five star reviews, and while its overall rating on some sites isn't that impressive at a 3.7/5, it's closer to a 4 than it is to a 3. That said, I've read many different resources on this topic over the years and have rarely found the insights I've sought, although sometimes I have stumbled across some good insights. For whatever reason, however, this book just didn't click with me and I don't know if it's the author's fault, my own fault, or that I'd already encountered many of the tips and tactics mentioned within its pages. I don't want to NOT recommend it if it will help people, but I do have to admit that I've found other books more helpful over the years...
The Procrastination Cure: 21 Proven Tactics for Conquering Your Inner …. [Kindle Unlimited] — Damon Zahariades May 30 - June 7, 2020
The author spends a lot of time setting up the self-help section, which was good and bad. I knew how it was going to be laid out, but the bad: I got bored fast, even if the subject was interesting and informative.
The breakdown step by step of self-awareness will be helpful to others; for me, it was more reinforcement of my own beliefs and systems to move past procrastination. However, the 21+ tactics to beat procrastination was very informative and I did learn some new tricks. Throughout the book, I skipped sections that did not apply to my situation or issues.
I have downloaded several of this author’s books and they all are well-written from the standpoint that the author truly does care about improving people’s lives. I can tell by the way the book is detail organized and presented.
All of the books I believe are on Kindle Unlimited, so give one a whirl. It is well worth it for each subject matter that is covered.
This book provides excellent tips for different ways to become more productive and decrease procrastination. The book lists various reasons why people avoid doing the work that needs to get done. Recognizing and acknowledging a problem, puts someone in a better position to combat it.
The author recommends performing an honest evaluation of why you procrastinate and the triggers that lead to procrastination. Some of the effective ways to diminish the impact procrastination has on your life include de-cluttering your to-do list so that it only has tasks that will help you reach your goals; having another person hold you accountable; focusing on one task at a time to reduce the possibility of becoming distracted; and rewarding yourself for completing a task.
The book is easy to read and the table of contents enable anyone to quickly find the tips or techniques that would be most effective based on their personality, goals, and lifestyle.
I love that the author was short on theory and long on practically and that he zeroed right in on real and common procrastination pitfalls such as social media, binge watching series, video games, etc. It also helps enormously that he was a world class procrastinator, worse than most of us! His 21 specific tools are helping immensely! And his recognition of Active Procrastination as one tool in the arsenal was a big relief!
Common sense, 80% filler words, low quality writing
This could have been done in a blog post; nothing insightful nor worthy of a book. Author seems like a low performer, unintelligent bozo, hacking his way into publishing a book. Where do they vet for idiots like these?
I read recent and less noticed books, so I can find new content which I am not aware of. This book has failed my expectation, so giving only 1 star. Adding one extra star, because it is short and everything is included which I learnt from other books. It's my first review and I had fun reviewing :)
This book will surely help me to build myself for my future ..It's the best to encourage your present self to work for your future self's best interest by optimizing time management, streamlining your to-do list and conquering the negative talks abt yourself and heading towards positive aura of better tomorrow..
Some good information but also a lot of fluff and filler material in this short (less than 200 pages) book. Also, as in other books by this author, very repetitive throughout. Most of us know the basic concept of Introduction / Body / Conclusion (Tell ‘em what you’re gonna tell ‘em, tell ‘em, and tell ‘em what you told ‘em). However, repeating the same things multiple times is overkill and tiring. These books by Damon Zahariades, although short, are too long for what they cover. These books could be drastically condensed and still cover the same information well. Instead of multiple books, the reader would be better served to be presented with one book where each of these small books was condensed to a single 15-to-25-page chapter. Side Note: Would like to see books of this nature made with a lay-flat binding to facilitate highlighting and underlining with a straight edge (ruler) if desired. I don’t always do this, but sometimes do this depending on what type of material I’m reading… realizing this slows the reading process considerably.
I went into this expecting a few tips and tricks, but came out with a long-ass list (in a good way!) of both. Damon doesn’t just give the tactics to deal with procrastination, though. He goes into WHY the procrastination could be happening in the first place. As a freelancer and writer, this was an awesome read.
This was a nice short and sweet book. Normally in books like this, they get really technical and then I get bored reading them and either finish in years or not finish at all. This book has some really good information that I will implement. Most things you already know but have to hear it anyway. Its always good to have a reminder.
I do question Active Procrastination. I think that would be a little controversial. Doing something else you know you have to do instead of doing what you were going to do in the first place. My first thought was that you are just changing your priorities, or you know you can get one done now and maybe do the other later when you have more time or energy. I can't imagine if you're doing something that you need to do, you are procrastinating. Just my thoughts.............
A very good book for procrastinators to help them get off of their butts and do something!
This book has open my perception into why many unanswered occurrence happen. My situation is not Facebook, not email, not on my phone but television that DVR. So I can make a list now and track my time. This book give very good pointed example to break from procrastination. I will be implementing some if not all so I can break from this issue. You know that word start with a P has a T in the middle and ends with the letter N.
This book is awesome!! And very helpful! I wanna quote something in the book:
“holding ourselves to an impossible standard discourages us from taking action.”
That hit the nail on the head for me being a “perfectionist”. I always saw it as something good... but I actually discovered it was one major obstacle holding me back in the procrastination world.
If you are interested in this topic, certainly read most of the techniques on this book In online articles/magazines. Certainly those tips help alleviate some procrastination, but there’s something deep, even more emotional, that’s not tackled throughout most of these rational tricks.
I read the Persian edition of this book that for an unknown reason I couldn't find it in Goodreads. A book on how to cure your procrastination as its name suggests that is very Practical. it discusses the reasons that you have procrastination and then provides best practices to eliminate it. it was exactly what I needed to read when I choose this book. I'm really happy that I read this book.
Pretty good, lots of actionable tips. I feel like some of the tips are summarized versions of other books, but then again, I'd rather get the synthetic version and act now than pore over book after book and never get going.
Perfect to start changing the perspective about my inner procrastinator. The key point is to do what makes sense for me and using this practical rules to overcome it efficiently.
Insightful! Learned a lot about WHY we procrastinate. It’s just OK for learning how to now procrastinate, but where it really shines is explaining WHY we procrastinate, and where it’s rooted. Knowing is half the battle.
Stop wasting time and procrastinating. Open this book and find the answers to conquer your inner procrastinator. If you want change now is the time to start and this book is the place to start. Lots of helpful tips and steps for mastering your time and productivity. Highly recommend this one.
This is the second book I’ve read from this author. I really like the length of the books, not too long or overwhelming, and straight to the point. I highly recommend reading this one, and it’s readable in an afternoon.
A great book, with practical and easy-to-do advice and tips that help you overcome your procrastination. A must-read for anyone who is a professional procrastinator and desperate to overcome this terrible habit
Fantastic opportunity to create change in your life!
This book offers practical advice that is applicable too any ones situation and can be applied in anyone's life. It is practical and simple. I recommend that you take advantage of this book ASAP.
