Bridge to Texas

Rate this book
Bridge to Texas offers unsurpassed comedy from start to finish as forty-something Texas Miz Mike gets involved in a “nude” photo shoot for a calendar to raise funds for a wildlife sanctuary and ends up solving a murder. Murder by ostrich? A mule that breaks into houses and spies on women in the shower? It could only happen in Three Prongs, Texas, where the misfits fit. Reverend Alan Evan Kirkland leaves Scotland behind in a bid to become a Texan. Is it a lost cause? He encounters fire ants, scorpions, “resurrection” animals—and the thing he hates and fears most—snakes. Even worse, Evan discovers that his bride-to-be, mystery-solving Miz Mike, is still involved with three men she previously loved and left. Will she stick with him long enough to walk down the aisle? The heat under his collar is not just from the blazing Texas sun! Bizarre even by Miz Mike standards, Mike and her arch enemy combine forces to prove government corruption and stop it. Evil wins a victory when Evan is kidnapped. Can Mike save her fiancé, or will murder and dirty politics end their marriage plans?

An Entertaining Texas Style Mystery

Take an amusing Texas comedy, mix in a murder mystery, add a dash of corruption, and you have a book that cannot be put down. Brilliant character development, charming interactions, great humor, and genuine Texas flavor!

This Miz Mike instalment begins with the startling combination of a "seasoned women" nude photo shoot to save an animal shelter under threat, a severely jetlagged Scottish minister (Miz Mike's intended "Alan"), and the murder of a beautiful young model. By "always minding her own business", Miz Mike and a surprising new friend, once "hate each other's guts" enemy, Quinn Bitterroot, are swiftly entangled in another dangerous mystery. Accompanied by the exasperated cautions of her son, Ron, and law keeping friends, the fearless Miz Mike's near inner monologue and McKean's uniquely fresh descriptive idioms frame this murder mystery in nothing short of a buckle-up-for-the-ride adventure from one Miz Mike pickle to the next. With familiar faces from the previous stories and well executed dabs of humour (and a few more dead bodies), just when it seems the loose ends have been tied for Miz Mike's pending marriage, a breathless twist keeps the action flowing right to the last page. This has to be my favourite Miz Mike adventure to date, although I was slightly mortified to realise I have missed a novel along the way. (Will rectify that once I get my story order straight!)

Delightfully Bonkers!

Texas Miz Mike always minds her own business - but isn't saving animals everyone's business? Her quest to save Heavenly Gate Animal Sanctuary from closure leads her into a scary new world of posing for a nude calendar and investigating the murder of a young girl. While Mike's future husband from Scotland attempts to adjust to a whole different world, Mike gets stuck escorting a former enemy around in an attempt to join forces and solve the murder which is rooted in local governmental corruption.

Death by ostrich? A mule that breaks into houses and spies on women in the tub? "Resurrection" animals? The story moves swiftly and is so entertaining that it would be hard to predict whether there is more comedy, or more mystery-suspense. But when Miz Mike's future husband is kidnapped, the story becomes as twisted as a rattlesnake on a skewer.

Mystery & Mayhem commence as another pickle of a mystery gets underway from the start with a risqué calendar shoot with exotic animals on a ranch in Texas. Intriguing to say the least as this reader turned the pages to find out more. Miz Mike, a mystery author, who is part of this photo shoot, quickly finds herself drawn into another murder mystery when someone turns up very dead. Who did it? Why? What was the ulterior motive to kill someone so innocent? Or were they that innocent? That’s what Miz Mike is determined to unravel, as she quickly becomes a target herself when she becomes a threat to the perpetrator in this wild romp through Texas hill country with a satisfying end.

Didn’t like it

The funny wasn’t funny, the woman had major hots for her married ex while giving very little attention AND no explanations to her fiancé. She was always “too busy” with some crappola. They also were very slow figuring things out while praying and quoting God.
