I have two words for you: Jack. Bowdon.

Two more words: Have. Mercy.

Jack has a sexy Southern drawl that gets deeper and lazier when he has romantic intentions. “He could teach a class on how to flirt.” Muscles. Handyman. House builder. Loves his dog. Loves his woman. His best friend describes him as “the guy who swoons easily and loves hard.” Seriously – a sexy, flirty, drawling, twinkly-eyed, winking, earned-his-muscles-through-hard-work guy who swoons over the women he fiercely loves? Yes Please!

Livy and Jack have instant chemistry, some of it is residual from their childhood friendship and some is just good old-fashioned sparks. Both have past relationships that are still causing problems – mostly heart issues that Livy and Jack have to work through together and separately but occasionally these villainous exes rear up in person too. Good, tender lessons here on forgiveness as well as self-worth – both found ultimately in Jesus and not anyone else. The parallels between the restoration of their hearts and the renovations they’re doing on Livy’s grandmother’s house were subtle but well-placed.

Bottom Line: The setting is gorgeous and vivid, quaint and quirky. The characters are fun and relatable, the kind of people you’d want as friends. The romance is smokin’ hot (honestly, keep a freezer handy) but laced with mutual respect for each other and for God’s guardrails. And banter. It’s laced with lots of great flirtalicious banter too! Most importantly, the message is sincere and organically woven through the pages. Someplace Familiar by Teresa Tysinger made me smile for all the right reasons.

The story of Livy and Jack is beautiful, wonderful, and had an element of surprise/suspense that I was not at all expecting. I was drawn to the storyline, and found myself cheering them on right from the start. This story was also about new beginnings and forgiveness. Livy's journey of self worth and becoming her own person was well written. It was on her terms, in her timeline, and balanced well with the romantic storyline.

Here's what I liked about the romantic storyline - it wasn't fast paced and purely physical. Instead, I found it to be sweet, starting out more like a friendship than anything (yes there was definitely chemistry, but the characters were smart in their approach). They took their time to get reacquainted with each other, learning about each other, and giving each other the space they needed when necessary. I also enjoyed how the author brought in some friends to the mix. There were several scenes where the friends had get togethers, or just talking with one another. This added more depth to the storyline, my connection to it and the town. Just made the story feel that more real to me. Not only did Livy start to feel welcomed to Laurel Cove, I did too!

My favorite line in the entire book was "when you feel peaceful about something you would usually fear or doubt, it is God giving you a nudge to walk along the path he has set for you." I could see this as the theme of the book for both Livy and Jack. They both needed a little nudge, and to understand the reasoning behind it. We could all connect to that in the real world if we stop and think about it.

If you're looking for a little romance, you'll certainly find it here. More importantly, those readers who are looking for inspiration on your own personal journey, I think you may find it here. Join Livy and Jack on their journeys. You just might take a little journey of your own. I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

What I enjoyed about this contemporary fiction debut: southern charm and manners, the book cover, the setting (hills of North Carolina) and the theme of overcoming a difficult relationship.

I delight in finding debuts and this author certainly shows promise. The romance fell just a bit short for me with insta love and an episode of lightning fast falling out. Also, the focus on touching was more than I needed (knees touching multiple times, falling into each other more than once, etc.). Overall, it was a solid novel and I look forward to the next in the series.

Going back is sometimes the best step forward. Fresh starts come in many ways and usually not how one expects. Sometimes it takes facing your hurt to build a loving future.

Livy is going to the one place she can seek comfort. Like many of us, she is going to place that holds memories, fond times and quaint people. She went through extremely tough times, and the author gave glimmers of the “jerk” (would love to insert other word) that wounded Livy, made her skittish and broken. One theme is the healing of Livy in this story, seeing her become a strong woman again.Jack was a delight. He was a smitten kitten with Livy from childhood and he should her southern charm in her return. I loved that he was kind and patient building with Livy. He represented small town hospitality and grace, through out the book.

I want to crawl in between the pages and visit with these two often. The town of Laurel Cove sounds like the perfect place to visit, buy a house and solidify roots. I was caught up with envisioning it in a “At Home in Mitford” style community. I am sure those towns people get up to some great side stories while the reader is away

Teresa Tysinger’s debut novel is a smashing hit from page one. This story is about two heartbroken and abused people come together to pick up the broken pieces of their lives as they work together to fix-up a run down cottage. Readers will fall in love with the characters, immediately being drawn to their pains and sufferings, as well as their joys and happiness. It is a story that will rip into a reader’s heart as they come to love Laurel Cove and the people in it. This is a well-written, heart wrenching and gut pulling story that readers will absolutely love, leaving them lingering on thoughts of hardships and love. I would recommend this novel to readers that enjoy contemporary fiction.

With a true Southern gentility, Tysinger’s debut is a breath of fresh air, yet reminiscent of the classic Nicholas Sparks. A heartfelt romantic journey from beginning to end, this novel will wrap you up in Southern hospitality, offer you a cup of sweet tea and make the reader not want to leave the colorful world of Laurel Cove, or say goodbye to Jack and Livy. A must read if you need to escape from the real world whether just through pages, or on vacation.

This is a sweet and heartfelt reunion romance in which the Blue Ridge Mountains play a charming character. The small-town setting and Southern flavor complement Jack and Livy's poignant unexpected romance like a comforting bowl of shrimp and grits.

There is nothing more that I love to read then books that are based in my home state of North Carolina. Someplace Familiar is book one in the Laurel Cove series by Teresa Tysinger. I really enjoyed reading Livy Johnson's story. Livy is an artist who is searching for a fresh start and hopes to find that by reclaiming her grandmother's old home in Laurel Cove, North Carolina. Her plans are to restore it back to the charm it had when she was a little girl. Jack Bowden is a childhood friend of Livy's and he is the owner of Bowdon's Supplies. Jack is set on helping Livy restore her grandmother's home. Will this be too much for them, or is it just what Livy needs?

Reading about the mountains of North Carolina reminds me of how much I love my state. There are so many wonderful aspects of the Blue Ridge Mountains that everyone loves. This is definitely one of those series that I am going to love. I highly recommend this book to anyone that loves the mountains of North Carolina.

There are so many things I adore about this book right from the get go. Home improvement type folks, mountains, small town, sweet friendships, and faith! When Livy Johnson pulls into town, she is uncertain and hurting yet cautiously optimistic about her new adventure. Jack Bowdon has a steady personality and a big heart.

Laurel Cove is a delightful community and I'm already looking forward to my next visit. Someplace Familiar is packed with a nice variety of authentic secondary characters and cozy mountain culture. Readers will be drawn right into this heartfelt story.

I requested the opportunity to read this book through the author. The opinions expressed are my own.

A more tender story of grace and love you won’t find. Teresa Tysinger’s debut, Someplace Familiar, is captivating, gentle, romantic, and so well-written, I was transported to Laurel Cove and its beautiful characters from the very first page.

Teresa writes with such a graceful ease, her description so beautiful, that you are transported immediately and can feel every breath of wind, every emotional turn...and every redeeming moment.

This is a stunning debut.

"There's no place like home" How true this is even though it took Livy awhile to feel like that.
I definitely agree with the quote. As long as Jesus and my immediate family are around me no matter what we do or where we are it's home.
I can certainly relate to Livy a lot in this story. I really enjoyed seeing her grow and come to love, trust and forgive others for the wrong that was in the book.
This is also the author's debut novel that has a little bit of everything in it right down to the Southern charm especially one called Jack Bowdon.
I just loved Jack. He's every girl's dream man. Good-looking, sweet, You know the type. Oh and did I say Hot?!
Jack has a lot of forgiveness to overcome if he's to get on with his life too.( Bitterness and hate can make you mean and irritable in most peopl) but it seems Jack can hold his own until Livy came along and he realized he had to change.
It's through Gods Grace and love that we are able to do this just like they did.
I think that it's wonderful to get to pick up friendship where you left off.
I thought I was going to get to do that but it seems like God had other plans for me.
I really enjoyed this wonderful story of true friendship.
You see, that is very hard to come by these days and times.
I didn't like all the judging from the townspeople that went on. There's too much of that in real life too.
No one knows what really goes on in a person's life. Only God does.
That's why Livy is my most favorite person and I love her mother too!!
Sam's a butthole. To many self centered ppl in this world. He only thinks of himself.
I hope you don't mind but I skipped the bedroom scenes and the smooching that went on.
But, otherwise I thought it was a very good book and I can't wait to see what Teresa does next!!
This book definitely deserves 5 stars!! I wish I could give it more!! cause this story has a lot of everything going on!! Even humor!!
I just loved it!!
I received this book for free. All opinions are my own

When the life you’ve dreamed of living hasn’t worked out and people have made you feel less than, comfort can be found in familiarity. So when Livy Johnson buys her grandmother’s cottage in Laurel Cove, she leaves New York and her dreams of becoming a famous artist for a more laid back rural setting.
The friendship between Livy and Jack Bowden started over one summer when they played together as children. Now, years later, they pick right back up. But both Jack and Livy have bruised hearts and wounded spirits. Both have doubts about themselves and issues trusting in relationships.
Teresa Tysinger weaves a story of redemption and hop in the midst of pain and healing. As her grandmother’s home is restored, Livy’s determination, faith, and confidence are being rebuilt. With God’s promises, new friends, and blossoming love, Livy just might find home.
A contemporary romance with plenty of sizzle, Someplace Familiar is a well-written story for anyone believing love always protects, always trusts, always hopes, and always perseveres, even when we—as humans—may fail.

I was thrilled to be on the launch team for Someplace Familiar, because I knew from the description that it would be my kind of romance. It was all that and more! What a impressive debut novel! Set in a small mountain community in North Carolina, I felt like I was right there with the characters, Livy and Jack! The setting was well-described, but not overdone. The romance was sweet, flirty, sexy, and a little angsty. I liked how Teresa wrote from each character's POV. The story flowed well, and the characters had great chemistry. Someplace Familiar would be a perfect vacation read, as it's not too intense and leaves you with a fluttery heart. Grab this one now for your summer stash!

"The place reminded her of a refined lady, full of subtle beauty and without any entitlement or pride of position." (25)

Someplace Familiar by Teresa Tysinger will bring you to someplace familiar. It's the place that in your heart, it reminds you of what it was, or what it could've been, but also a place that held a special meaning. Someplace Familiar is also familiar in many ways because Livy is so relate-able, you can't help but find similarities.

"No coincidences, only affirmations - little nudges from a heavenly Father who wants you to know you are loved and worthy of the grace He showers upon all of His people." (199)

Laurel Cove is quaint and as with all small towns, gossips tends to spread in lightning speed, but it also comes with the genuine care of people - the kind of people where"friendships that last a lifetime" kind. Smart, funny, insightful and downright charming, this romantic story makes for an easy and fun read. Though I did find the part of bringing in Sam to Laurel Cove odious and not overtly important. Of course, it did contribute to Jack's development, so I get it. Just felt that part dragged a bit. It could totally be me being overly bias. Did not like Sam at all. And on that note, I thought Claire's plot line was interesting and did pave way for a possible continuation. I just love stories of redemption.

"It's funny how moments that are catalyst to positive change can be so painful." (81)

Back to Someplace Familiar. If you love romantic comedies plus a little of grace and substance, I'd say pick this one up, and enjoy the friendships you'll build with these characters. And if you ever had doubts in yourself or in God, be encouraged by Someplace Familiar, and let hope take resident.

"The way I see it, we shouldn't ask God why not?. . Instead, let's ask what now?" (103)

"Guess it's just nice to have a little hope. . . we can hope for better. Better than we had, better than we think we deserve. If we find that, it's as pretty close to perfect as we can get this side of heaven." (73/303)

This was my second time reading and I loved it just as much as when I read it the first time. Can I come to Laurel Cove and spend time with these characters and visit the coffee shop, inn and hardware store?

This story encompasses a few themes – learning to forgive, healing from hurts, and new beginnings all found by trusting God. Livy has arrived in Laurel Cove after buying her grandmother’s old home. During the renovation process she hopes to be able to find a fresh start and rediscover her dreams after experiencing a bad relationship in New York City. Until the house is liveable, she is staying at the local inn which is run by Jack’s aunt. Jack grew up in Laurel Cove, runs the family’s hardware store with his brother and volunteers at the inn as a handyman for his aunt. He is recovering from having gone through a divorce he never imagined and is struggling to find peace. I fell in love with Jack, Livy and the community around them very quickly. Experiences in their pasts have left them both broken and with no interest in getting involved with anyone else, however from the moment they run into each other at the inn (literally) they feel a connection. It turns out that they once played together for a summer when they were young kids. I loved that Jack’s friends welcomed Livy into their group just because she was a friend of Jack’s, but they were not just friendly to her they fully accepted her as part of their group. Through the girls Livy found friendships she had never experienced with others. Each time the girls were together I felt like I was right there with them sharing in the fun and entertainment. Jack’s ex, Claire, was determined to ruin any possibility of Jack & Livy’s relationship succeeding but by being honest and open with one another they were able to overcome her attacks. I found myself cheering for these two to be able to overcome their past trust issues and was delighted with the way the story ended. I was really touched by how Livy was able to forgive Claire and even reached out to her to try to help her through her struggles.

Teresa Tysinger’s Someplace Familiar is a sweet and charming romance of childhood friends and a welcoming Southern town, and I mostly enjoyed it.

Livy Johnson and Jack Bowdon both have pasts that won’t let them go, but as they get reacquainted in the small North Carolina town of Laurel Cove, they begin to see all the potential of the future together. The romance between these two develops quickly, but given the circumstances, it feels realistic. They’re respectful and attentive, have great fun and chemistry, and despite a few inconsistencies, I loved seeing them fall in love with each other while learning to be themselves and forgive.

However, at the end of Someplace Familiar, there’s an event that seemed completely out of place with the overall feel of the story. To me, it felt unnecessarily dramatic and over-the-top, and I don’t think the story needed something so outrageously villain-y to spark the desired growth in the main characters. I really didn’t like it, and it stole some of my enjoyment at the end, unfortunately.

Still, it’s a cute, hopeful romance, and while I was left a little disappointed, Someplace Familiar has received many glowing reviews—so, readers in search of a good contemporary romance, this one might still be worth checking out.

Thanks to Celebrate Lit, I received a complimentary copy of Someplace Familiar and the opportunity to provide an honest review. I was not required to write a positive review, and all the opinions I have expressed are my own.

"He said that the love they shared flooded into the deep cracks of his grief like grains of sand. That it didn't stitch the cracks closed, just filled in the wounds so that they were bearable."

This is the first book by Teresa Tysinger that I have read and it was enjoyable. The book combined raw emotion, heady romance, good friendships, and memorable characters with a distinct theme of grace, forgiveness, and second chance. Anyone who enjoys a good contemporary romance will enjoy this book.

Jack is a swoon-worthy hero, capable, dependable, and straight-forward. Unfortunately he's been struggling with his ex-wife and the ugly divorce that occurred after her multiple incidences of adultery. He seems incredibly put-together and in control of his relationship with Livy but his inner turmoils and unresolved anger surface in the middle of the book to make him more real.
Livy is an artist who has been crushed by a controlling and degrading boyfriend. She returns to her grandmother's cottage and hopes to restart her life at a place that holds love and good memories. Their romance is swift but they both have baggage that needs to be sifted through and the plot focuses mainly on the process of their healing from the brokenness.
Jack's couple friends are fun additions to the plot and definitely help keep the book moving.

Teresa Tysinger’s debut novel is full of southern charm and romance, with an additional side-serving of angst thanks to Livy’s controlling ex-boyfriend and Jack’s unfaithful ex-wife. Despite almost twenty years having passed since they played together one summer as children, Jack hasn’t forgotten his childhood crush, and although Livy doesn’t immediately recognize her scrawny, gap-toothed playmate in the handsome, muscular handyman she literally bumps into, it doesn’t take long for the two to rekindle their easy friendship. Well, maybe not quite so easy if you add in the attraction that sparks to life!

Just as Jack and Livy’s friendship is quick to take off, so they are quick to acknowledge their attraction to one another. The difficulty for Jack and Livy is dealing with the emotional pain of their previous relationships and not letting that affect their budding one—more so when their pasts seek them out. Jack’s ex-wife was perhaps a little clichéd, and Jack definitely has some issues to work through there, but this part of the story took a surprising turn right at the end that highlighted the kind of person Livy is (in a good way!)

Those who enjoy lots of sweet sparks of attraction and flirtation between their hero and heroine will definitely enjoy spending time with Jack and Livy.

My review is 4.5 Stars

Someplace Familiar was a beautifully written book, with lovely prose that was comfortable and cozy.

Jack’s compliments collected inside her like shells in her pocket during a walk on the beach.

As Jack and Livy set out to restore her grandmother’s cottage that she had stayed in as a child, the restoration of their hearts began. The renewal of their childhood acquaintance was so sweet and natural and it was clear that their attraction was not merely based on physical appearance.

The message of grace and forgiveness were very clear in this story. The author did a great job in conveying the need for both without being preachy or making it sound contrived. The oft-remembered words of Livy’s grandmother provided great wisdom and guidance to Livy throughout the story.

Despite some flirting with a little innuendo and some passionate kisses, the story remained clean.

This is author Teresa Tysinger's debut novel. It is also the first in her Laurel Cove Romance series. It made me want to relax with a cold glass of tea on a beautiful porch and linger with this captivating and romantic story. Her setting in a small town was so believable it felt like you had seen it before on a mountain vacation. Her heroine Livy was someone you wanted to root for as her life in New York had been less than idyllic. Livy's childhood friend Jack Bowden was everything likable in a hero, supportive, and caring yet tenderhearted.

It's a story with twists and turns which makes you quickly flip the pages during the fast-moving scenes and relish the time spent with these characters in Laurel Cove as the story reveals itself. I'll be looking for the other books in the series with my tea waiting on the table eager to spend more time in Laurel Cove.

Teresa Tysinger's debut novel is quite good. Her characters were well formed and seemed real at the very beginning of the book. She has set the book in a tiny NC mountain town, one that seems very familiar to me. I love it. I've always wanted to live in this type of place, where everybody knows everybody else and there is only one traffic light! Her plot was good and her theme of forgiveness and learning to care about yourself even when others don't value you is very good as well. I look forward to more from her.

My Review
I enjoyed this book. It is a cute love story with some wonderful characters. Most of the characters were easy to like. I liked the small town feel to it. My only thing was there was quite a bit of kissing and a hint of more physical romance. But I was very happy that the characters stood fast to what they believed in and did not let passion get the better of them.  Teresa Tysinger tackled issues like forgiveness and love in this story. It was done in a way that was scripture based. I feel like the reader can learn important truths along with the reader.

Laurel Cove, North Carolina is the place you want to go to. It's a small community with good neighbors and people who care. Livy has fond memories of spending time there with her grandmother. She is trying to forget the abusive relationship she just escaped from. Her grandmother's old home is up for sale. Maybe this was God's plan for her.

Jack never left Laurel Cove. He grew up there and continued running the family hardware store. He married and was ready to have a happy life. A year ago he divorced after his wife was caught cheating. He couldn't forgive her.

What does it take for Livy and Jack to forgive their past? How can they move forward and break free from the hurt, the negative comments, the abusing behaviors?

Forgiveness is the key to healing. Letting go of your anger and fears through forgiveness gives you peace. The other party doesn't control you. They have no power.

Livy and Jack learn that with forgiveness it gives them a fresh start....a new beginning to really experience God's love.

I found it appropriate that Livy was an artist.
Every time she starts a new painting, she begins with a new blank canvas. This clean canvas is what Livy needs to start her new life in Laurel Cove.

I loved the ending. I won't say much but Livy shows much compassion and forgiveness that you might be shocked.

I received this free to review.

I'm reading, I know not a surprise to anyone, but here is another proof that books do more than entertain.
In this book a character is complaining that life isn't fair and this is what his pastor replies
"what's right isn't always fair, Jack." "Fairness assumed something deserved." He didn't really deserve.......He wasn't perfect-never would be." "But if what was right included......" "Man, I tell you, if fairness led the way, God would never forgive any of us for anything. " "And grace is really what we're talking about here." "...... might not deserve your forgiveness , but for each of you to heal, you need to forgive her and she need to forgive herself. "
Most of the books I have reading lately have been about forgiveness and learning to accept ourselves as God has.
I think God is trying to tell me something and I think I am starting to "Get It"

The above statement is what I wrote while reading " Someplace Familiar" by Teresa Tysinger.

I think you can tell by reading that that the book is about forgiveness and healing of emotions.

It is a clean love story but there is lots of passionate kisses. This is a story that deals with betrayal and emotional bullying in relationships.

I think one reason I liked the book was because, like other books that I have read lately, it was fictional but true to life and could be our neighbors or friends or family, and it also has truth quoted in the pages that readers could learn from to improve their own lives.

The other reason I liked the story is because it reminder me of the special relationship I had with my grandma. Yes, stories that are about grandma's and granddaughters are special to me. I am not saying that the relationship between Livy and her grandma is like mine with my grandma but just the closeness and the love between the two brought memories.

I recommend "Someplace Familiar" by Teresa Tysinger to any reader that needs to remember that forgiveness is possible after betrayal and it is really for the forgiver more than the one forgiven.

I was given a complimentary copy by the author and Celebrate Lit. These opinions are my own.
