About the author
Alicia LaFontaine
9 books21 followersAlicia LaFontaine is an independently published romance author with books that span several genres but always have plenty of steamy romance.
“Author” was the only response she ever had when people would ask her what she wanted to be when she grew up. Now that she has grown up, it feels surreal to actually say she is one, but she’s getting better at it.
When she’s not writing, she loves to read. Her sister would tell you she’s always been the one with a book in her hands and her mother would say it’s because she has a great patience for reading (one of her favorite compliments she’s ever received.)
She also loves to crochet and knit and has a knack for creating new patterns, especially any she can work on while catching up on her favorite shows.
She and her husband, Jordan, live in Wisconsin with their four cats. They’re her shadows around the house and she gets incredibly bad anxiety when she has to leave them for any extended period of time. She’s known for years she’s a crazy cat lady and she’ll readily own up to it.

We met Jane in the first book as the sister to Jocelyn's fiancé, and the fiancé to Damien. Now, sort of married to Damien, she pushes to live with a husband she barely knows; with a rocky start to their marriage. Society expects them to be married, and married they shall be, unless they wish to ruin the reputations of everyone involved.
How will Jane handle the aftershocks from the first book? Can her relationship recover from his indiscretions?
My thoughts (spoiler free)
The plot takes off from the end of Jocelyn. I loved that the author tackled the book starting at this point, rather than setting things up later down the road. It allowed a deep dive into Jane at quite a strenuous time. The author excellently showed the complexity between the events, societal expectations, and the character's feelings and actions.
I fully appreciated being in Jane's headspace for this point in time, and journeying with her as she figures out the mess she's been handed and how she feels about everything that has happened and is happening. She didn't just figure it out and be done with it. There was waring feelings and emotions, pullbacks to things she thought she had resolved, and real honest emotion that surprised Jane.
The wording is thoughtful and consistent. Which, is most important when convincing a reader to stay in a headspace not consistent with their own; as historical novels do. The language is such that you can easily understand what the character's are saying.
I noticed a few extra bits setting up an environment in keeping specifically with the time in this book rather than the first; which may have been due to the expanded setting and characters. Staying in one house/place, doesn't allow much time to explore this, like she was able to in Jane. Either way, it was appreciated. Shows that the author is putting thought and research into the work.
A thoughtful reading with complex characters, and even more complex emotions; with a dash of steamy romance and thrill.

Oh, man. I just loved this Regency romance! It's everything delicious and simple about beloved Regency classics, yet deepened. I'd been in a book rut for weeks and this pulled me right out and gave me a reason to stay up late. I loved Damien and Jane together. Their relationship is no fairy tale and features some serious perseverance. Watching them fall and forgive was so satisfying.
The side characters and setting are also beautiful. Most of all, I love that there is a possibility we may get more glimpses of this couple and their friends through future books. So well done. Highly recommend!

I didn't think I could love this story more than when I read "Jocelyn" which is Book 1 in the Brookstone Series, but I definitely fell more in love with the characters after reading "Jane." The stories are getting more intertwined and steamy and I cannot wait to see what Book 3 will have in store! If you haven't already read "Jocelyn," you need to and then read this book! They don't disappoint and they are very enjoyable reads, well-written, and professional. I won't put any spoilers in here, but be ready for some BIG shockers in this novel!

I loved Jocelyn, the first in Alicia’s The Brookstone Series and was excited to read Jane and thrilled when I loved this book even more! Jane is delightful and her personal growth in this book is extraordinary. Add that along with Damien Drasher’s charms and tons of tension to boot it’s a page turner from start to finish! I am so excited to see what happens next in Annabelle!

Had to read it after finishing the first in the series. I loved how some of the characters split off and you got a different perspective.
