this was brilliant. absolutely angelic. usually i don't read poetry books this long but i'm glad i read this one. i've seen it around amazon all the time and from what i've seen of kiana azizian's poetry around the internet, it's fierce yet soft and lovely. this book is exactly that and more.

us. is a collection of peotry heartbreak and healing. It tells the journey of self-love and the power it holds. It motivates you and also empower you with words.

It is relatable and sincere. While reading this I felt the poet's pain and hurt and love.

god, the author is sweet sweet sweet. she ends the book telling us her motivation for this collection of poems
“i wrote this to tell you the
things you seem to have forgotten,
the things this world
has told to you differently.
the things you
have told to yourself differently.”
there were many of these I wrote down into my diary and that reminded me of nayyirahs or rupis way to see the world. I will look forward for every new release of her.

Much of the collection did not read like poetry at all but as good, sound advice.

Another one of those modern poetry books that just hits it bullseye in terms of expectations and predictions. This was truly such a manifestation of all things modern poetry from craft decisions to length to tone. Still, I quite enjoy modern poetry and thought this book had some really strong poems and one-liners within it. Overall, a great book!

Just wow.
The poems in this collection are just breathtaking and heartbreaking. All of the self love and acceptance pieces moved me especially and I have highlighted quite a few to refer back to in the future, which can only tell of how uplifting they are. I loved reading this collection and I honestly look forward to more pieces in the future.

I find it challenging to connect with modern poetry collections, often feeling like they are tailored to a female audience rather than the general readership. Even when I delve into collections by male poets like Billy Chapata or Pierre Alex Jeanty, I struggle to relate to the words on the pages. As a man, I often feel like I'm reading something that was never intended for me.
I not certain if statistics suggest men don't read poetry, and I try to dismiss the notion that the books are specifically written to appeal to women, after all, themes like love, heartbreak, and healing are universal. However, the authors themselves often make it clear that their works are geared towards a female audience. For instance, at the end of Kiana Azizian's Us: A Collection of Poetry, she concludes with the phrase, "Sweet girl, you deserve so much more than these words," as if to explicitly state, if not already evident from the previous 200+ poems, the collection of poems is not intended for male readers.
Despite this perceived exclusivity, I did appreciate some of the words in this poetry collection. It could serve as a comforting bedside companion for those navigating heartbreak and struggling with self-confidence and self-love, offering guidance and support during their journey of healing and rediscovery.
For those who prefer more traditional and structured poetic forms, characterized by longer lines, rhyme schemes, and conventional capitalization, Kiana Azizian's minimalist style, with its emphasis on short, unrhymed lines and frequent lowercase usage, might not be their ideal choice. Consider exploring the works of poets whose style aligns more closely with their literary preferences.
Although I don't particularly like this poem, I found it impowering:

Post on arranged marriage, irani feminism, and a bunch of insecurities about body image, hijab, her homeland and food. SIGH.
stop dulling yourself down for people who cannot handle your edge.

maybe we should start focusing on saving ourselves instead of saving one another.

Kiana Azizian's collection of poetry is related to what we feel in our daily lives. Some of the poems took my heart away. The most important thing in a poetry is that it should connect with a human heart, with a human pain and this collection of poetry is all about the emotions, feelings and a heart break.

i’ve got a thing for the type of people who are undeniably themselves- the type of people with messy hair and even messier souls, the people who wear their hearts on their chest and passions in their tears. i’ve got a thing for those people who laugh at their own jokes and rejoice in their own success. the people for me are the ones who fight for what they believe in and never let their spirit settle. i adore all the people who have the strength to remain soft and the fire to burn hard. these are the types of people i’m in love with. these are the types of people i want in my life.

I remember seeing this book a few months ago and just looking at the cover. I'm one of those people that actually judge books by their covers but I liked this one. It was simple. I got it at a book store and I took it home and read it. Let me tell you that this is the book that got me into loving poetry. I loved this book with all my heart and I relate to so many of the pages that I read! It's just one of my favorites and I would recommend giving this a read!
