Warm and Cozy Slice of Idealistic Americana This is a warm and cozy slice of the idealistic Americana. Having not read the previous episodes of this series, this book does fairly well as a stand-alone. As new characters are introduced, so little of their backgrounds are included the reader knows that they should know more. I think it is this lack a familiarity with the characters that caused me to never become emotionally involved with them - ever. There is one scene that made me angry, but only because of my past, not from identifying with the character. As for Spence, he should just sprout wings and a halo right now. The circle of friends that populate this story are not to be believed! They party every weekend, never get grumpy with each other and even their dogs act perfectly together. The plot is believable, but again, too perfect. The island life is also portrayed as almost perfect
Thank you Tammy for a wonderful set of stories. I loved every moment even though you made me cry several times. I hope to read Jenn and Izzy's stories some day. In the mean time I will cozy up with Coop's books. 😘😍😁😎
The story at the root of this book is my favorite of all the Hometown Harbor series and is engaging and compelling. Unfortunately it is also weighted down with clunky dialogue and boring details.
No one I know talks like these characters, ever. It is laughable at times, especially the men who sound pretty much the same as the women. Literally no difference! Hasn’t she ever spoken to a man? A lot of the quotes by all characters throughout the book are longwinded and unwieldy. At times it seems the dialogue provides a forced movement of the story. Rather than the narrator using their own words to develop her characters they pretty much just tell us what we need to know about them. Too easy! And they aren’t even giving interesting monologues, rather laundry lists of facts. Rather than using the ingredients to make a delicious 4 star meal, she simply microwaves each item and lays it before us uninspired and lacking flavor.
Beyond the metaphor, food must be the writer’s obsession. We are provided with pretty much every menu they ate morning, noon and night. I’m not even interested in my own meals to this level of detail and find these facts superfluous and monotonous. Who cares and why do we need to know?
A good editor could cut this novel in half and keep us captivated without losing anything important. I found myself skipping paragraphs and pages of boring to get the heart of the story which is really DARN GOOD. It was there where I found the story’s heart. I rooted for Kate and fell in love with Spence. Maggie was a great foil to their lives. I was shocked by her and still found myself rooting for her. It was also nice to see characters from past volumes advance their stories, namely Regi and Ellie. Their characters were well-developed in the series and interwoven together seamlessly here. I cried at the conclusion even (in a good way!!) And yet I cannot rate it above a three, which is a shame.
I’d love to read mores stories like this, if only she’d remove the fluff. Perhaps, if she is attached to these mundane facts she should put them in a stored file and look at it anytime. I doubt very much her readers would miss most of this. Tight writing is a way more powerful method of telling a story. Most readers simply don’t have the time, interest or inclination to wade through the stagnancy to get to the good stuff.
This was the last book in the series- which I read in less than a week- and I'm so sad it's done! This book focused on Kate and told her back story as well as her current. She is one tough, resilient woman. So many sad experiences that she had to deal with turned her into the strong woman she is today. She's the lady you'd pick to be your mom if you could. Every book of the 5 in this series kept me hooked from the very first page. As soon as I finished one, I downloaded the next one. Thank you Tammy for writing such excellent stories!
The Hometown Harbor series was a terrific read. The characters feel like old friends and the story line could be about your own life. Read books one through five in four days. This Tammy Grace series is a .hey read!
The 5th book in this absolutely wonderful series about strong woman, in their mid life, who have suffered a tradegy, been cheated upon or had a life changing experience. It's set on San Juan Islands off of Seattle and it tells their story. Each book centers around one particular woman but the book also includes characters from previous books so the books are best read in order of publication to preserve continuity of the characters and series.
This book centers around Kate, she appeared in a couple of books previously when she moved to Friday Harbor to make a new start. She's happily running her antique business and living with Spence, a retired police officer. She lost one of her children 20 years previously and has never really dealt with that; so when someone reappears in her life she is thrown a curve ball, one which will change her life, and that of her friends.
The book also updates us on Ellie and Blake's wedding (from the previous book) and also sets the scene for the next book which centers around Lucy, Blake's sister.
I really enjoy these books, full of friendship, life and romance, oh and dogs, each family has a dog. If you like this series and books like this, try books by Debbie Macomber, especially her Cedar Cove and Blossom Street series.
I started with the first book, and thought,I'll read the next book, then I had to read the next book, and again and Finally Home. It was emotional and it could happen so easily to anyone. The friendships and easyness of the island made life simple. Once started, I couldn't stop. My disappointment is that Tammy Grace said she wasn't going to write anymore books about Hometown Harbor. There is constant stories available to move on too. I was happy about the adoption. Then I thought Kate was getting it together, maybe Spense and her could finally move on. Then I thought Mitch loved the island, and out of the blue,Mia got her act together, maybe her and Mitch? So many possibilities still there. So maybe think hard,no short stories, continue on. Great stories, love the series.
What an emotional story Kate has in this book. We learn more about her past and what makes Kate who she is. Have a few tissues ready as she reconnects with an old friend. You will also get the final details of Blake and Ellie's story. The author has no plans for another book on this series at this time, but I hope she decides to revisit it. There are several stories I would love to see! For example, what about Ellie's dads future, and why her mom hates her. Did I sense a story for Mitch? And what about Izzy who became a central character. I really enjoyed this series! I look forward to future stories.
I have now read the five book series, I love this author. While the series started very light, like a great vacation read, it has ended with heart touching stories. This last book deals with the death of loved ones, especially daughters. And one who committed suicide. It is not a sad book (although I did get teary eyed on occasion) but a wonderful look at dealing with the negative emotions. Being trapped by them and learning to move on. Learning to trust again. To let others help. I have lost a daughter to suicide and felt the author did a. Remarkable job of portraying these feelings realistically.
After her daughter's death Kate's ability to deal with the tragedy was insurmountable (which anyone with a brain or a heart would.understand). That doesn't include her husband and her neighbor/friend who thought Kate should bounce right back. After her divorce Kate moves to Friday Harbor and begins life again with her best friend from childhood, Spence.
As with all of the books in this series I like the characters, location, plots, and sub plots. I would like the series much more if each book stood on it's own, with a start and finish and perhaps an event drawing the stories together, but I lose some of my enjoyment when I have to read five books right in a row.
Katie is a very strong woman. She has wonderful friends and family. And Roxy. Through her therapist and her help- Katie learned to let go without the panic of fear. The traditions and celebrations on the island seem to be so real and fun. Blake and Ellie’s wedding was wonderful. The details described by Tammy L Grace makes you feel like you’re right there with all of them. I have read some of the books out of order,so I will go back and read the ones I’ve missed. I have found it is best to read them in order so start with number one and Tammy L Grace has them listed. Happy Reading.
Each book in this series is an emotional roller coaster. The characters have their flaws but they come together as a large group of loving friends that bond and form their own " family " unit. Also, each of these books have a dog. That makes the stories even more special. The books are all well written and feature characters in midlife, which is very appealing to the senior romance reader. Also there is no swearing or explicit love scenes. Overall, a very entertaining series. I highly recommend them.
This is Kate's story. She's finally found some peace until her former best friend, Maggie, shows up on the island. Her son is in an accident and her ex husband shows up with an attitude and confesses he had an affair with Maggie right after their daughter died and blamed it on her depression and inattention. Mitch recovers on the island, Maggie's granddaughter is adopted by Regi and Nate, Kate sees a therapist and is able to forgive Maggie before she dies of her cancer. Sad but happy at the same time. Great story, great author.
I have read this whole series, loved it and the characters, the vivid descriptions of the island and all the beautiful scenery and people, their way of life and the feeling of being right there as an observer! At this stage of my life, as I approach my 80th birthday, it makes me think about my own life, my family and friends, all the things I've done, places I've been and things I'd still like to see and do.
I know I will miss not hearing any more about these wonderful friends. One thing I wished was for Kate to decide to marry her best friend. I feel like I know everyone personally. The stories told by Tammy Grace are well worth getting into. I highly recommend it. Of course the San Juan Islands were our favorite place to vacation many happy memories.
I start by saying that I love this series. I do have some criticism. The actual story of Kate was interesting and at times tearful which (in my opinion) makes a good story. The things that bothers me are the word yummy. These people eat all the time and everything is yummy. No one eats very heart healthy-even the cardiologist! The whole group gets along so well. No one complains or says no. It just isn't true to life. In conclusion, if you sift through all that, the story itself is terrific!
Each of the five books offered rich views of relations hips, friends, family and plenty of twists and turns. Having been to Friday Harbor to escape a traumatic event, I find the setting to be extra special. There's plenty of romance, complex relationship s and redemption to make good reading.
Tammy L Grace was a New author for me, however if you love Debbie Macomber Cedar Cove series or Kat Martin Against series of Bella Andre Sullivan series you'll fall in love with this series, I know that I did!!!!!
Tammy I didn't want the series to come to a brief hiatus, I can't wait for the next installment!!!!!
This is a story of love, discovery and forgiveness. It's engaging and realistic with intriguing characters and yes, I needed my tissues! This is the last book in the series and I hope the author can be persuaded to add a couple more. I am not ready to leave this island community. This would make a great series for Hallmark or Netflix.
Upon finishing the previous book I was disappointed at the quick abrupt ending. This book magnifier ties all loose ends together & tells a wonderful story of forgiveness & the bonds of friendship I encourage all to take time to read this series in order. And oh yes the San Juan islands are on my must visit list!
I enjoyed reading finally Hometownharbour series book 5 I would recommend this book book to read loves dog stories
I loved reading this finally hometown harbour book 5 I imagined that I was in the book while I am reading it. I enjoyed reading the book very much. I would recommend this book book and the series hometown harbour series. And who loves reading dog stories.
Another superb addition to the Hometown Harbor Series. I thoroughly enjoyed discovering more character depth and backstory of Kate. As always, my heartstrings were pulled by the amazing strength and grace displayed by many of the characters in this story. It was great fun to catch up with many of them. Thanks for another great read, I look forward to the next one.
Katie runs her decorator shop " Alexander's". Her old girlfriend, Maggie comes to the island for the summer. Katie's son , Mitch is injured and comes back to the island to recooperate. Maggie is dying from cancer and asks Katie to help her find someone to take care of Emma ,her granddaughter and adopt her.
I love the Hometown Harbor Series. The characters are people you would love to call your friends. No matter what they are there for one another. At the end of each book I cannot wait to read the next. Kate went through such great loss and hurt, but her community of friends were there to help her through. I highly recommend reading the series.
This was such a raw and emotional story that was beautifully written. This story has relatable topics readers can relate with. The characters have a very strong friendship that's more like family. I love the feel of this small Island town with it warm and charming sights and sounds. I highly recommend.
These are romance books with a twist, each book has a little suspense in the story which keeps you turning the pages. You definitely need to read these books in order. Great series!
4 stars for Finally Homer (Hometown Harbor Book 5). It's so nice to see the continuation of characters from book to book of this series. Kate's back story is so heartbreaking and it's heartwarming to see her finally accept the past and build a wonderful new life.
I gave this book a 5 because I enjoyed the laughter and sadness in between chapters i loved the characters. It had a sad but good ending. Waiting to see what happens in the next and last book. Hopefully no more deaths and more marriages to come.
Tammy Grace is such a good writer..Her characters..human and animal come to life..under her Hand and You can see them..and the beautiful surroundings of the Peaceful Harbor
I just love these books and the stories. Tammy writes it perfectly where you feel like you are right there in the town or at least wishing you were. You won't regret reading it.
