If William Gibson had any literary heirs -- the family tree would include Warren Ellis, Jonathan Hickman, and now... Joe Peacock, a powerful youngster in a genre that could use a jolt to the system. Peacock writes with expediency and para-military precision. His characters don't just leap off of the page -- they strap on jetpacks -- and blast out of it. If you are into Black Mirror, Bruce Sterling, or the cyberpunk genre, this IS the book you need to have in your life.

I began this book and after 10 pages was trying to decide if it was a parody, or just a serious book written badly. I still can't decide, but it makes the very common beginners mistake of immediately postulating a somewhat different world without any supporting background or history, leaving the reader floundering around trying to understand how they got where they are, which is never really explained. This author really needs a good editor.

The story itself is mediocre at best, and the book contains more than a reasonable amount of grammar and punctuation errors which are very distracting. Nonetheless, I am going to buy Volume 2 just to see if things got any better. As of now, I don't recommend buying this book at any price.

Marlowe Kana
If I were to describe how Joe Peacock may have created this book, I would say that in a mixing bowl he put the future envisioned in Stephen King's "The Running Man" plus a good helping of Lee Majors' "The Six Million Dollar Man" and then add a healthy dose of Harrison Ford's "The Fugitive".
I very much enjoyed this first installment of Marlowe Kana and look forward to following her on her future adventures!

For those who enjoy cyberpunk, dystopian sci-fi, Marlowe Kana is fast-paced and action-oriented, with a healthy dose of snarky humor. Author Joe Peacock creates a future world that is both disturbing and exhilarating, populated with colorful characters who engage in snappy dialogue that mirrors the pace of the book. A strong, smart female lead is appreciated. I look forward to reading the additional volumes.

VERY strong female lead (like, I think she can punch through brick walls?) in a hyperconnected hypercommercial dystopia. There's one memorable scene where a surgeon is trying to perform a delicate operation and can't even turn off the TVs in the operating room. Chase scenes, fight scenes, wisecracking, complicated sister-sister relationships - it's fast-moving.

Marlowe is a strong woman who doesn't play by anyone's rules but her own. I love her fight, her spirit, and her relationship with her sister. This is a fantastic story with a good balance of pace and detail, creatively told. I can't wait to see where Joe takes us next!

Futuristic

I'm not much into futuristic police stories. 6 million dollar man move over. It was smooth sailing through it until MK came up somewhere she wasn't without any reason or storyline to say how she got there.

Poignant and Captivating

This is a dystopian sci-fi that captures your attention while making you think about how close this is to being our future. I love MK and that you get to hear the story from different characters and angles.

Joe Peacock is a talent author, who reminds me of a Cyberpunk Grant Morrison or Alan Moore. This is solid work.

If you love cyberpunk and a strangely prescient novel, pick this book up immediately. Then pick up the rest like I did and start reading.
