Physical Principles of Sedimentology is a textbook devoted to the physics of sedimentological processes. The applicability of fundamental principles, such as Newton's Three Laws of Motion, Law of Conservation of Energy, First and Second Laws of Thermodynamics, and of other physical relations in hydraulics and groundwater hydrology is illustrated by discussions of natural processes which form sediments or sedimentary rocks. The author's educational background as a major in physics and geology, and his 40-year experience in teaching and research help him bring together physics and geology in this enjoyable and highly readable form.

As much as the topic of sedimentology might not be everyone's cup of tea, this book provides about 200 pages of the most important sedimentological phenomena packed in such an interesting story-telling manner that takes the reader from wine cellars to historical events such as WW2 all while explaining sedimentology in a very understandable and witty way. No way is this a read for anyone, the author himself admits it very early on; the lectures in it are what defined him as a teacher so they serve as a compilation of sorts for students. Lastly, the author gives a very short backstory of his career as a geologist and university teacher, even going so far as to try to upgrade, or rather revolutionise how we teach and learn. His own words should be the best emphasis of this: "I come to inspire, not to inform."
