There can only be one queen…

Still reeling from the devastation wrought by Susan, Stevie struggles to find a way to retrieve the amulet from the dark witch who now calls herself queen. She develops a plan to amplify her powers, believing it will give her an edge, but the magic is untested and dangerous.

Susan will stop at nothing to complete her rise to power, including eliminating the last of Lucia’s descendants: Stevie and Charlie. She calls for a showdown, with all of the town’s witches present, leaving Stevie no choice but to comply.

Queens who came before her sacrificed their lives to protect the witches, and Stevie is prepared to join their ranks. In this life or death battle, she'll do whatever it takes to save her people.

It will all come down to a battle between the dark an evil Susan, who has the powerful Queen’s amulet and Stevie, the rightful queen of the coven. As Stevie struggles with the impossibility of beating Susan and the probability of her painful death, she must also consider how to keep Charlie safe from the clutches of the dark witch.

The Beaufort witches combined are still no match, but centuries before, witches split into their own groups, and gathering her coven seems an insurmountable feat. Would it even be enough? Can Stevie risk the lives of her witches?

As Susan spirals further into the black magic and madness that envelopes her, Valerie remains less her child and more her whipping girl, as her powers have been bound and her body is twisted and maimed from the burns she survived. Does Susan have a plan unknown to the others to open the veil between the living and the underworld? What monsters will she bring forth in her quest to rule as the supreme witch?

As the chaotic preparations begin, Stevie is lost in her own fears, her own doubts and her need to protect both her child and her coven at any cost. As hope fades, what she needs is a miracle…
THE BEACON by Chrissy Lessey builds the tension from page one until it raises to a fever pitch! Feel the loyalty of the coven and the responsibility of one young queen to both her coven and her only child. Ms. Lessey’s characters are alive, they move, speak and feel real, as readers are brought into the folds of each page and fantasy becomes plausible reality, even if only for a few hours! A delightful read that almost turns the pages for you as good versus evil meet and worlds bleed into one another!

I received an ARC edition from Chrissy Lessey in exchange for my honest review.

Yet again, Chrissy Lessey knocks it out of the park with this captivating conclusion to The Crystal Coast Series. The Beacon is the third novel in Lessey's series following modern day witches and the struggles of their coven in Beaufort, South Carolina. As with the series' first two novels, The Coven and The Hunted, the story centers on the witch Stevie, her autistic son Charlie and the coven's battle with the dark witch Susan, who has possession of their amulet.
I am, admittedly, not the biggest fan of the contemporary fantasy genre, but as with Lessey's first two novels, The Beacon smashes genre lines and has something for everyone. I particularly love the interaction between Stevie and her son and how this complicates her rise as Queen of the coven and affects her dangerous struggle against Susan. The way that Lessey combines thrilling action with honest family interactions is brilliant and kept me turning the pages. Like its predecessors, The Beacon is addicting entertainment that delivers one hundred percent and wraps up the series perfectly. A must read for fans of contemporary fantasy, women's fiction, literary fiction, and hell, anyone looking for a book they can't put down.

So after finishing The Hunted I was super excited to find out what would happen in the last book of the Crystal Coast Trilogy. I may be fan girling a little bit about this series haha.

The plot starts of right after The hunted finishes which leaves the characters in more than a little bit of a mess. Being the last book of the series the plot is fast paced enough as the challenges and problems from the last books all come to a head leaving Stevie with some impossible choices. The ending was fairly dramatic with a few twists I didn’t see coming and a few that I did but it definitely left for a satisfying ending which left me smiling. (It’s hard to go into too much detail without giving a whole lot away!)

Now in terms of characters it was great to catch up with Stevie again and watch her develop as she struggles to take on the role of the new Queen as well as face the numerous decisions and obstacles which have suddenly been put in her lap. It was also great to catch up with Vanessa as I really wanted to see if she would be able to actually escape the toxic effect of her mother. I did feel that it was missing some of the interactions with the other characters at times and there was a lot I would loved to of gone into deeper (spin offs maybe) with each of them but I understand there was a lot to cover as well as a lot of characters. One aspect that I do feel that was missing was Charlie and his abilities, we know he is meant to be a powerful little witch but his powers are not something that seem to be showcased very much if at all. Saying that in a lot of other aspects he makes leaps and bounds which was great to read. I was a bit disappointed when I finished the book simply because it had finished haha, I love finding a new world to be able to immerse myself into and it always kind of sucks when it ends no matter how good the ending! Either way a great way to end the series and I highly recommend.

Thank you to the author for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review.

The Beacon by Chrissy Lessey is the third and concluding piece of the Crystal Coast Series. It continues the saga of a coven of witches who live in a small North Carolina coastal town, some of them are descendants of Blackbeard the pirate, who died near where the novels are set. I have read the first two part of the trilogy and love Lessey's storytelling. How can you not like a story about witches and pirates?

The third installment picks up where The Hunted, Book 2, left off. Stevie is dealing with the aftermath of a battle with Susan that clearly has not ended. There are lingering questions about Vanessa, Susan's daughter whose magical powers were bound and whose physical beauty has been destroyed. Clearly she's grinding an axe but also she has issues with her dominating mother who has become an extremely powerful witch. We understand that Stevie's maternal instincts will continue to protect Charlie, her autistic son, from the threats of Susan's evil and Vanessa's jealous designs, but what about the little boy's magic? It seems uniquely his own, pure, empathetic and bound to the love he has for his mother. What role will he play in the resolution of the complicated conflicts?

I've looked forward to his book for sometime and Lessey does not disappoint. If you're already a fan of this series, you know what I'm talking about. Of course, this is a must read. But for the rest of you who have yet to taste this special world that magically blends historical fact with unbounded possibilities borne of inspired imagination, do yourself a favor. Get the full trilogy. Settle in to your favorite reading chair with a glass a wine, get comfortable and begin your journey.

This book was so good. If you didn't think things could get even crazier from the last book, you were wrong. This part of the story fulfilled my high expectations and then some. I really enjoyed where the author went with this book, and the "showdown" was epic. The books before this one didn't prepare me for how epic this one would be. I'm very pleased with how this book ended, but I am sad that it's over.

As a whole, this story was fantastic. The writing was consistent from book to book, and the character development was superb. This story was nothing short of an adventure.

Humans and witches

These three novels are quite charming. They keep one's attention and maintain suspense within each book and across all three of them. Solutions to the problems presented aren't immediately apparent, although the eventual resolutions seem true to life. The great majority of the characters are likeable and even those who are not are realistic in their humanity. I enjoyed them all.

Having had a great prequel and 2 awesome books to build up to this it could easily have been a let down but with an author as talented as this one it was never in doubt that the series would have a well thought out and delivered end. This has been a great series and I'll miss the characters and their adventures.

Adventure

I enjoyed the series. The author mentioned her editing and proofreading teams. I applaud them also. Too many times I'm distracted by a spelling or grammatical error. There were none and the series flowed easily. Thank you for the adventure and escape.

Last and best

Stevie continues to worry about her son made more immediate through death threats made by the evil witch. She ends by gathering all the witches of two clans and all of the queens there have ever been. The climax is phenomenal. Good read.
