Besides my family, my greatest love in life is books. Reading them, writing them, holding them, smelling them…well, you get the idea. I’ve always loved to read, and some of my earliest childhood memories are me, tucked away in my room, lost in a good book. I received a five dollar allowance each week, and I always — always — spent it on books. My love affair with writing started early, but it mostly involved journaling and writing silly poems. Several years ago, I didn’t have a book to read so I decided on a whim to write my own story, something I’d like to read. It turned out to be harder than I thought, but from that point on I was hooked. My first and second books were released by Sarah Book Publishing: This Is Not About Love and Grayson’s Ridge. I’m a total genre-hopper. Basically, I like to write what I like to read: a little bit of everything! I reside in Floyds Knobs, Indiana with my husband, three children, and massive collection of books. I have a degree in psychology and worked as a counselor.

I love this

Carissa never seems to amaze me with her writing skills and this story surpassed my expectations. I love fantasy and Carissa takes us into Dorothea's world full of killer monsters and a sexy guy. Yeah, I loved Adam. Sigh.
So, with a key, a new home some magic big white wings and a lot of trouble, Dorothea finds herself - literally.
This is a must read.

Dorothea has wanted nothing more but to move out of her mom's house and be independent, so much so that she spent all her time and money in high school purchasing and organizing boxes full of supplies she will need to be on her own. When her mom gives her the abandoned house her grandmother owned, Dorothea is over the moon to have her independence so soon. But there is something strange in the backyard, a fence she does not remember, one that must be hiding something important...

Let me just put it out there that Dorothea is an odd bird- and I don't mean that in the paranormal sense either, but in the regular strange people way. What high schooler works as much as she possible can to purchase and hoard her very own home furnishings, ranging from appliances and furniture to cleaning supplies, organized neatly in well labeled boxes? Ans who is obsessed with Costco and mentions it every few paragraphs (I love Costco too, but I am an adult and just happen to love a good deal, but I don't think about the store very often)? Yeah, not so much. It makes her quirky I guess, but it was so completely unrelatable and impractical I was thrown off when I started the book. I still liked her as a character but found her to be so unrealistic as a recent high school graduate. The only reason I know she was a recent high school graduate was due to the book spelling it out for me a few times, never by Dorothea's actions or attitude- she seemed much older, was pretty mature (except around Adam) purchased alcohol, owned a home... yeah, nothing that screamed teenager to me, making me confused. I know I sound super gripey, but that was my only complaint about the book, the lack or realistic description of Dorothea, but overall I enjoyed her character once I could get over the over stuff nitpicked about (sorry for the tangent!).

I did not expect this to be a romance story based on the synopsis, but the romance aspect of the book was just as important as the mystery. Dorothea's lust and attraction towards Adam was almost instant. She met him in the store and found him attractive, saw him talking to a pretty girl she is convinced he is in a relationship with, he shows up at her house being a good Samaritan/neighborly and tells her they played when they were young, and then the next night she gets drunk and call him for a booty call. Wait, what? I feel like that came out of nowhere based on the characters, but oh well. I was a little surprised at how intense the connection and relationship was so fast, but the relationship ended up developing as the book went on and being so important to the character development of Dorothea.

Ok, now that that is off my chest, let me tell you that I blew through this book in just a few hours! It was a very fast read with enough personality and a different plot than I have ever read before making me intrigued to find out what would happen next. If you are looking for a romantic mystery with lots of different supernatural flair, then this is the book for you.

I am voluntarily reviewing a complimentary copy of this book.

AUDIOBOOK REVIEW
Man, Carissa Ann Lynch is one heck of a talented author! I have not come across one of her books that I haven't loved! MIDNIGHT MOSS was no different! Interesting, action-packed, and romantic, this book was GREAT from start to finish! Loved Adam from the start! Very swoony!

The narration was done really well. The voices seemed fitting for the different characters which is a huge plus for me when listening to an audiobook!

FIVE STARS!

Genre: Paranormal/Mystery
Rating: 4.5/5
Dorothea has moved into her grandmother's old mansion in a town called Black Cat Springs. As soon as she arrives, she begins to have strange and cryptic dreams. In her explorations around her neighborhood, she discovers a strange fence that has an almost magnetic pull on her. Behind the fence is a thick forest and a lake. As she begins to meet the townspeople and learn more about the history of the lake, she slowly discovers that she is a part of a world of magic, mystery, and danger.

I enjoyed this book because it is a well paced mystery with lots of little interesting twists and turns.
All the characters are quite well written, and the paranormal elements were well thought out. There are some great bits of foreshadowing that indicate that the author put care into crafting the story. Since this is an introductory book, things were introduced slowly. We get to discover the magical elements of the world as Dorothea does. The point of view shifts from her to another character about midway, and this adds another layer to the book.

My single complaint was that the end felt a bit rushed, and I wished we would have delved more into the magical and paranormal aspects (but I suspect that subsequent books will have plenty of that).

I enjoyed this book immensely!

Another, absolutely fabulous read from the incredibly talented Carissa Lynch! Having read all of Carissa’s books I knew that she would take me on an unforgettable ride with this new story, but I had no idea I would fall in love with the plot and characters so quickly!
What I love about Ms. Lynch’s writing is how diverse it is and how she always manages to surprise me. “Midnight Moss” did just that, and while I expected serial killers (oh, how I loved the “Horror High” series!) I got immersed into a mesmerizing world of supernatural, of shapeshifters and witches, of ghosts and trolls, and all other dark secrets of the small, sleepy town of Black Cat Springs.
I loved how the story was told from a point of view of both Dorothea and Adam, both of whom turned out to be such likable characters! I loved how shy but at the same time feisty Dorothea was when it came to protecting herself and what was dear to her. And the biggest kudos to Ms. Lynch for creating such a vivid world of paranormal which I simply didn’t want to leave! I already can’t wait for the sequel!

Wow!

Dorothea planned and saved for the day she would move out and live on her own. Little did she know, with the turn of the key, her life would never be the same again!

This story was amazing! As the story unfolded, I was astonished at how well written it was. Once I started reading I couldn't stop until the story was finished.

Amazing!

I was immediately sucked into this story and it never let go. The mystery, magic, and romance were woven together perfectly to form a world and characters that entrance a reader.
This book is different from Carissa Lynch's other works and she really scored a winner with this one. I can't wait to see what happens next in Black Cat Springs!

Having read little by way of paranormal books, I really didn’t know what to expect from “Midnight Moss”. I have, however, read plenty of books by Author Lynch, and felt confident that I would be in for an enjoyable read, and I wasn’t disappointed in any way whatsoever.

The story begins by introducing us to Dorothea, the main narrator—a young lady who was previously headstrong, and now desperate for independence. We are drawn into the character and her family, and when she moves into her grandmother’s old house, there’s a sense that something’s going to happen. After being warned off from seeing Adam, a handsome tattoo-covered young man, she meets with him, and things get going, big time.

Arriving at the part where the paranormal enters the plot, via Dorothea’s excursion into a boarded-off area. She happens across a creepy environment, after which she and Adam be-come involved in something they don’t understand, and from here on in, it’s a nightmare for the couple, leading to a wondrous finale.

Midnight Moss isn’t so much a book that you read; it is a book that you are in, and live. Au-thor Lynch has a gift for bringing the reader into the story, yet this takes her to new strengths. Even to someone who isn’t well-acquainted with the paranormal, this is a book everyone should read. This is a book one cannot put down and I recommend it wholeheartedly!

Author Carissa Ann Lynch brings us a tale of witches, trolls, shape sifters, ghosts. Dorothea moves from her home with her mother into her grandmother's house in Black Cat springs and is handed a box that belonged to her grandmother. That box contains a key that has opened up a world of danger for Dor as she settles into her new home. Along the way she is drawn to a fence where she crosses into an area that she feels is familiar to her and meets her first ghost. As she runs away she knows that she will be back and she wont be alone for her new boyfriend Adam also has powers and that he is also apart of what is going on in town. This book is great and one that I highly recommend but unfortunately there is only the audio version available. I am looking forward to reading Carissa's next book and hope that she continues this series too.

This is a really cute YA book. Other than the 2 sex scenes Id even say young teen. The characters age is older teen but this is written really simplistic. That being said even as an adult I really enjoyed reading this story, and look forward to more from this author. I really love the character connections and the build up.
Dorothea is such a sweet young woman. Suddenly out of nowhere her life is flipped upside down and turned around. Things begin happening and without explanation. Then there's Adam. She finds herself falling hard and fast for the young man from town. Then someone is found dead, shes hearing and seeing things, and theres mystery everywhere Dorothea looks.

Good twists and turns, a mystery to solve and secrets to unveil, and a romance that enhances the story rather than distracting. This book is not overly long, so it keeps a good pace. New adult OK.

This book was pretty different from what I am used to reading. I really love the author's writing style and the flow of the book. This was a very easy book for me to get into. I love how independent Dorothea is for her age. I enjoyed seeing how responsible she is at only 18. She is a strong character with great wit and a take charge attitude. The paranormal throughout this story was different and very interesting. The strange creatures and the story behind why they are terrorizing this small town caught and held my attention. I absolutely love this story! I recommend this book if you like a bit of YA, paranormal, fantasy and creepy.
