Hollywood leading man Carter St. Clair had it all—until a brutal stalker attack nearly takes his life. Seriously injured, he returns to his hometown of Rarity Cove, South Carolina, to recover in private, his outlook on fame forever changed by someone claiming to be his “number-one fan.”
Physical therapist Quinn Reese fled San Francisco to be free of her soon-to-be ex-husband, professional football player Jake Medero. Staying at her mother’s house in Rarity Cove seems like her only option until she can get back on her feet financially. When the St. Clair family makes her a lucrative offer of employment, Quinn sees the potential for starting over, even if it means working with Carter, who broke her heart years ago.
As Carter heals under Quinn’s care, a fragile bond forms between them. Carter also recognizes a parallel between his own stalker and the possessive pro baller who considers Quinn his property. But even as Carter steps into the role of Quinn’s protector, another dangerous storm is brewing…one for which neither of them is prepared.

"Taut, page-turning suspense and heart-stopping romance: Leslie Tentler is a rising star of romantic suspense." - New York Times Bestselling Author Allison Brennan
Renowned actor Carter St. Clair is viciously attacked in his home by a stalker and barely survives. His brother brings him back home to Rarity Cove, South Carolina to heal, both mentally and physically. Guilt ridden about the death of his companion and bordering on depression, Carter's recuperation becomes a challenge for his family. Physical therapist Quinn Reese has also returned home to Rarity Cove following the collapse of her marriage to an NFL star. When her former brother-in-law asks for her help with Carter, she sees it as an opportunity to establish her independence despite her troubled history with him.
This story had everything I like in the genre. There was always a sense of melancholy surrounding both Carter and Quinn until they reconnected. It was her job to help Carter with his recuperation but he helped her just as much, healing her emotionally following her awful marriage. They're both normally strong people but now experiencing a period of weakness. They found a source of strength in each other that happened gradually and naturally. Their romance was quite lovely.
The suspense was twofold as Carter's memory of the attack didn't immediately return and Quinn's estranged husband was a constant threat. It was always in the background until the climatic confrontations for both. I had a tough time putting this book down.
I'm captivated by this series and LOVE the covers to date as they beautifully represent the mood and tone of the stories within. This story is another gem and Tentler is now on my auto buy list. Her writing style simply works for me.
(I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review)
Hollywood star Carter St. Clair and his girlfriend are attacked by a stalker .... he almost dies from the stab wounds, the girlfriend is killed. Going to Rarity Cove, South Carolina, to recover in private, to be closer to what family he has left, he is besieged by depression.
Quinn Reese is a Physical Therapist, who escaped her abusive to-be-ex-husband to come to Rarity Cove to spend time with her mother and try to come to terms with the state of her marriage.
The St. Clair family offers Quinn a job .. work with Carter ... only she and Carter have a history..one that no one knows anything about. They offer a good amount of money and as she is presently unemployed, she reluctantly agrees.
As Carter heals, they become close. Until her husband shows up. He considers Quinn to be his property to do with as he wants. When her life is threatened, Carter jumps into the role of protector.
I don't read a lot of romance, but I found this one to be well-written. I liked how Carter and Quinn worked to get over their past to become friends. I really enjoyed how the entire family related to each other. And I loved how the ex got his just desserts. The ending was a surprise ... didn't see that one coming.
I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy supplied by the author. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
I barely remember the characters in Rarity Cove's first book, but 'Low Tide' sounded like an enticing read. Coupled with the fact that I generally like Leslie Tentler's storytelling and characters, Carter St. Clair's and Quinn Reese's book sounded like a good fit.
And mostly, it was, objectively speaking. The St. Clair family's drama slowly came back as I got into the plot; the pages turned, the story flowed (albeit slowly at times), and I pretty much was glued to the plot as the twist came at the very end.
My reservations slid in however, when it came to the characters, whom I didn't think I actually liked and were invested in as much as Tentler's other couples.
A man at the height of his career and the world at his feet and having it suddenly taken away, only to meet a woman way back from his past, whom he'd treated badly sounded like poetic justice. But this also dropped a big hint that Carter was enough of a prick to stay that way until his entire life was upended in an attack that had to have him reevaluating his priorities. Consequently, I didn't exactly like Carter enough to root for him and Quinn, not when he only questioned his womanising, jet-setting and superficial lifestyle in the wake of this tragedy. That it had to take her rehabilitation and that time spent together for him to 'develop' real feelings for her couldn't make me shake off the idea that he somehow needed to be brought down more than a notch when he returned to Hollywood, expecting that Quinn would be in tow with some concessions that he'd be making. Maybe I'd expected a bigger form of sacrifice on his part, or that he'd look somewhere else, away from the vitriol of that shallow life and was disappointed when that didn't happen.
Quinn, on the other hand, was easier to relate to, as she did all she could to flee an abusive marriage yet finding herself trapped where she was. I liked how she could put aside her issues more than Carter could, but she was a bit too much of a damsel in distress for my liking and her easy acquiescence to Carter's magnetic charm made me wish that she'd given him a harder time with it.
Frankly, I'm simply going to call 'Low Tide' a bit of a glitch. Tentler has always been an author I watch out for and it's not going to stop me from what she comes up with next.
In LOW TIDE, Leslie Tentler continues the stories behind Rarity Cove's St. Clair family. Carter St. Clair doesn't work for the inn like his brother in BEFORE THE STORM. He's a rising Hollywood star who's been severely injured by a fan who attacked him and killed his girlfriend. Traumatized and needing to recuperate physically, Carter heads back to Rarity Cove where his brother convinces him to receive physical therapy from another Rarity Cove returnee, Quinn Reese.
Quinn Reese left her dysfunctional family in Rarity Cove for California where she became a physical therapist to sports stars like Jake Medero. After marrying Jake, the football legend became physically and emotionally abusive. Quinn fled California for Rarity Cove to escape him while filing for divorce. Quinn's not looking to settle anywhere until she knows she's safe from Medero and reluctantly agrees to help Carter with his PT.
Carter and Quinn's stormy romantic past as teens starts an adult relationship built on old hurts. However, the strong attraction they feel is difficult to ignore. But at the same time, they're each fighting to survive their recent past.
This is a romantic suspense at its best. Both the hero and heroine are desperately trying to overcome fear and pain from their past that has returned to haunt them. Danger is imminent and inevitable. They also have strong reasons not to get romantically involved, but their attraction can't be denied. And the only way either can make it through the alive is to help one another.
In the second book of the Rarity Cove trilogy, we get to hear more about Carter St. Clair, the middle child of the St. Clair family. At the end of "Before the Storm", we know Carter is getting more popular as his status in the acting world rises. This book opens with us transported to his new life, as he is obviously doing well and living in L.A. We are quickly transported to his recovery from his own disaster which leads into the main plot. As a PT myself, I appreciate Mrs. Tentler's preciseness with representing our profession thoroughly. (It was a nice bonus to read a story with a PT as one of the main characters.)
Quinn and Carter make a cute couple, and the reader roots for them to be together. I will say....I kept picturing Carter St. Clair as Kevin Pearson ("This Is Us")/Justin Hartley. That visualization, to me, really made this story come to life.
I'm really excited to read the third of this trilogy.
I literally read this book in one day. I was so glad to see #2 in the Rarity Cove series because I loved Before the storm. I would suggest reading both books this is really not a stand alone but you will love both books. Quinn and Carter are such great characters!! This author writes with such detail and with such a great flow that you can't help but not want to keep reading all night. I would highly recommend this book /series to anyone who likes a book with romance, great characters and of course the suspense! You will NOT be disappointed!!!!
I've been a Leslie Tentler fan for awhile now. Low Tide is an excellent addition to the Rarity Cove series. It has everything you need in good romantic suspense. A hero and heroine you can like and enjoy...and a couple of people up to no good. I'm looking forward to the next installment in this series.
Carters book was nice. He was very annoying in the first book but the author managed to transform him from chatty to a brooding hero. I would like it if she changed her hero type though. They are distinguishable, but they’re all brooding characters.
The mystery was nice. Everything was done well. Enjoyed reading!
contemporary romance with a tiny bit of suspense... not my favorite genre and not a great book... must skip parts of smut could have done with never reading this
