The Call is a timeless tale of music, magic, a boy, and his dragon. The time has come for Modo to enter Lower Schola and learn if he possesses magical gifts like his older brother, Gavin. What Modo discovers about himself is more than he could have imagined.
I am the author of five children's picture books and two books of a middle grade fantasy. In my previous lives I was a music therapist, a church musician and a high school music and English teacher. I am currently writing and am also a fabric artist. I have two daughters, three stepsons, a stepdaughter , six grandsons and three granddaughters. My husband and I live near the coast of Maine with our dog, Sophie. My books are A Campfire for Cowboy Billy, A Isn't for Fox, Zero, Zilch, Nada:Counting to None, My Twelve Maine Christmas Days,One Green Tree, Ten Chickadees . The Call and The Deagons- Sept 2018, are the first two books in The Journals of Anterg Trilogy.
My first reaction as I finished this book is that I hope there are sequels! As a librarian, I am always looking for excellent reads for middle grade readers. This is a perfect story on par with Roald Dahl’s The Witches, but accessible to a wider range of students. I enjoyed the village references to a place I know well. Thank you, Ms Ulmer, for a fantasy worth sharing. Please keep them coming.
This is just the kind of book that I would have loved reading as a child and that I loved now! You don't want to finish it too quickly because then you can't read it any more but you just can't put it down. I highly recommend it to all sorts of readers.
My kids were gifted a copy of this book signed by the author. I read it in less than a day. It’s very fun and lighthearted and my kids are sure to enjoy it when they get big enough to read it.
