Even better than the last.

This series is just too cute. I breezed my way through It Happened One Doomsday, quickly sopped up Magic Carpet Ride, and when the author offered me the chance to read this one and review, it was a total no-brainer.

This second novella does a great job infusing even more life into the characters of It Happened One Doomsday. Dru is her hilarious self, Opal gets a slightly larger role--which fits her larger-than-life attitude to a tee, and Rane...

Rane might just be my favorite character in this entire series. She's hilarious. She is the epitome of that person you know that tends to rush in and just welcome trouble to them. She is loud, she's brash, she's tough-as-nails, she's not afraid of a thing, and she's just so talented at eating Dru out of house and home.

In this novella, Dru and the gang are yanked rather unceremoniously into a mounting catastrophe concerning Ancient Sumerian evil spirits (Ghostbusters reference, anyone?), an army made up entirely of statues, and the local Chinese restaurant.

Yes. You did read all of that correctly. It turns out the lion statues outside the town's perhaps-magically-assisted-Asian restaurant are kind of, sort of...possessed. And once those things are released, they'll use whatever statues they can get their hands on to fulfill an ancient prophecy that their army can take over the world--even if that army consists of lawn flamingos and garden gnomes with a new, mysterious bent towards violence.

And it's up to Dru and Company to avert the crisis before the world--ahem, town--is taken control of by said angry lawn ornamentation.

This one is a blast. Even better than Magic Carpet Ride. Laurence MacNaughton's ability to take Urban Fantasy and infuse it with carefree fun and laugh-out-loud humor is a true talent.

Thanks so much to the author for offering me the chance to give this a read for free. Of course, that didn't effect my review at all--this book is just that good.

If you're a fan of the series--or even if you haven't read it yet--give this a read! You won't regret it!

It was ok. Reasonably well written. Had a story line. But raised questions. Dru just jumps in. No backstory as to why she thinks she can solve this issue (or should). Opal seemed to have no point-she offered nothing. This was not a story that would make you want to read the series.

I like this author but for some reason this didn’t resonate with me. I was easily distracted and willing to not rush to finish it. For me the characters were not that compelling or interesting. It wasn’t my favorite.

All of these little stories are so fun. Dru, Rane, and Opal are such a dynamite team and I just love it. Each story shows a little more about what Dru is capable of and also what kind of shenanigans the group can get themselves in to.

It also got me really excited to pick up A Kiss Before Doomsday again!
