Each morning, at the crack of dawn, the trash trucks make their way through the city streets, feasting on the garbage that soils and clogs the community, in a brightly illustrated, fun-filled look at the world of the great garbage gobblers.
I loved this book and recommend it! This book literally goes through and talks about trash trucks (garbage trucks) in a way children would completely understand and from the words of children. This was such a fun read.
One of my oldest son's favorite picture books. I think I must have read this one a thousand times. TRASH TRUCKS! TRASH TRUCKS! TRASH TRUCKS! The great thing about this book... besides being about garbage trucks of course... is the fabulous, original artwork by Daniel Kirk. No matter how many times we read this one, there was always something new my son was pointing out. AND it was a very fun read-aloud. I think it's strange that this one isn't more popular or at least that I don't see it around as often as I would have thought. It was such a huge favorite in our house, I'd recommend to anyone with young truck fans!
I read this book in my public library by my house. The title and the illustrations caught my eye, I thought they were so unique, nothing like I had ever seen before. I think this book is great for teaching children about the importance of keeping our environment clean and healthy and what it would be like if we didn't have anyone picking up trash after us.
Obviously there are going to be children's books that don't appeal to adults, but this one even my truck-loving 3-year old wasn't interested in. The illustrations were unique, but made the trash trucks look scary. I'm not sure if there was any rhyming there, and I couldn't wait to get this back to the library - NOT that said 3-year old ever asked to read it again.
I have read this books probably 1000 times to my kids. It is one of those perfect read aloud books where you can add all sorts of bravado and energy to the rhymes. The illustrations are also deliciously detailed. Not a sleepy good night book, but great fun for the under 6 crowd.
For a boy who loves all trucks and heavy machinery, this is a winner. The artwork is fantastic, and while it had some awkward wording & rhymes, it was overall a fun book about the trash eating antics of the mighty trash trucks.
