Bob Larson is an American radio and television evangelist, and a pastor of Spiritual Freedom Church in Phoenix, Arizona. Larson has authored numerous books critical of rock music and Satanism.
I picked up this book because I'm interested in the topics of UFOs and possible alien life. I have no opinion on whether or not aliens are real or not. But it is an interesting thing to read about. Little did I know it was written my a narrow minded ultra conservative Christian. Not sure how believing in God and the Bible disproves aliens. Their God is all powerful but couldn't have created life outside of Earth? Believing in alien life is crazy, but believing in demons, the devil, miracles, resurrection, afterlife, etc. isn't? Everything outside of the author's spiritual point of view and his religious beliefs and rituals is "occult"? Really? This is why I'm an atheist. But as a religious studies major, I found this book fairly interesting in the few places when he was stating fact and not spewing religious superiority.
ARE “ALIENS” DEMONIC BEINGS PREACHING FALSE AND HARMFUL DOCTRINES?
Bob Larson (born 1944) is an American radio and television evangelist, and pastor of Spiritual Freedom Church in Phoenix, Arizona. He has written many books, such as 'Larson's Book of Spiritual Warfare,' 'Larson's Book of World Religions and Alternative Spirituality,' 'Larson's New Book of Cults,' etc.
He begins this 1997 book by recounting the story of the Heaven’s Gate suicides. But then he states, “Can the Darwinian hypothesis be trusted to suggest that somewhere in the vastness of space other intelligent species evolved? What forms might such aliens take, and would they desire to visit Earth to initiate human contact? Are unidentified objects in the skies the prelude to a decisive spiritual confrontation signaling the end of time? Is it possible that the entire UFO controversy is a spiritual phenomenon, rather than a material occurrence, precipitated by malevolent spirit beings? If we can determine who is really out there, can we also know why they are here, and uncover their true agenda. These questions are the concern of this book.” (Pg. 22-23)
He says of Crop Circles, “What intrigues those who study crop circles is the beautiful geometric formations that level fields in a precise pattern… The formations twinge from single rings to more complex quintuplets and even a so-called ‘Celtic cross’ of four circles linked by one large ring…. Most mysteriously, investigators seldom see any sign of human footprints, tire tracks, or any evidence of human intervention. Meanwhile, the fascination with crop circles means big business. Shutterbugs snap away and flying helicopters charge $20 a head to fly viewers over the scene. For the serious aficionado there are balloon rides and trips aboard microlight aircraft for lingering aerial views of the circles. And don’t forget to pick up a $10 Mystery circle T-shirt before you leave!” (Pg. 97)
He observes, “An intriguing question is why the [UFO] sightings have fallen off in recent years. Perhaps the press has grown tired of mutilation stories and the lack of an answer has created a general public skepticism or denial. Or maybe whoever is responsible for the phenomenon has already gathered enough information so that their aerial laboratories need no additional specimens. Another theory suggests that certain superior alien civilizations have entered into a secret treaty with the world’s governments to garner animals and humans as needed for experimentation… Indeed, purported secret documents distributed among UFO enthusiasts suggest that various government agencies are aware of ETs, which periodically visit Earth to benevolently manipulate the DNA of humans. I believe the real answer is twofold. First, those who have escaped certain satanic cults have confirmed to me that the harvesting of animal sexual organs serves an important ritualistic purpose. In addition, some satanic cults perform baptismal ceremonies by immersing the initiates in blood. This requires a large amount of blood, so they drain the blood of big mammals. Second, I am convinced that some percentage of mutilations, which cannot be explained away naturally, are indeed the acts of evil aliens, and the agenda of these spirit beings is the spiritual terrorism of the population. As I will now show, these spirits hide their agenda by taking on many different manifestations.” (Pg. 131)
He states, “I conclude that evil aliens, fallen angelic beings, are clearly orchestrating a social and spiritual mind-set… We know they have appeared before, and they are likely to appear again, but we can’t be certain when it will happen. This creates a neurotic expectation in the human consciousness. The psychological consequence is a menta and spiritual preparation for mankind to welcome, rather than shun, an actual global encounter of the third and fourth kind: contact and communication. If mankind is indeed being set up for the ultimate deception, then those who are spiritually vulnerable may become victimized by the UFO cults, which are increasing in number and eccentricity as we head toward the next millennium.” (Pg. 168-169)
He observes, “quirky cult teachings about UFOs and aliens shows that for over two hundred years the doctrines of a new religion have been forming. But does the Bible endorse this alien-based apocalyptic worldview? Will extraterrestrials really be involved in God’s end-time program? Will Christians be raptured, lifted off the planet, by UFOs? Or has some dark force simply been preparing people to accept that explanation?” (Pg. 192)
He suggests, “the accounts of alien abduction… contain descriptions of being snatched away into the air… Is this similarity of description merely a coincidence, or are alien abductors really evil angels conducting some kind of mock dress rehearsal to counterfeit the miracle of the Rapture of God’s saints?…. What if the Antichrist, or his precursors, were to suggest that benevolent beings from beyond had actually done those remaining on Earth a favor, by a mass abduction of Bible-believers?... Weren’t people on Earth sick of the Christian opposition to abortion, same-sex marriage, assisted suicide, and a host of other ‘socially progressive’ measures? With these interfering meddlers out of the way, a quantum leap in spiritual understanding would at last be possible, without narrow-minded fundamentalist bigots standing in the way… Granted, the immediate consequences in death and suffering as the result of this benevolent human hijacking would be devastating, but the long-range result would be a spiritual enlightenment of far greater significance.” (Pg. 206-207)
He concludes, “God is not in a spaceship. Exodus does not say this. And Jesus is not a half-breed alien. He is the unique God-man, and the ONLY name by which we can be saved.,, Do not let your loved ones or friends forfeit their salvation by accepting the false doctrines preached by aliens… The ultimate error is to pursue the gate of an alien agenda instead of seeking the Gatekeeper who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.” (Pg. 210-211)
This book will be of interest to Evangelical Christians studying UFOs, ‘alien abductions,’ etc.
Since Bob Larson had a radio show, you would think that this book would be rather sensationalized. The radio show often was, but his book is more balanced than some you would read on the topic of UFOs. Some of these can be explained through natural phenomena, other are not explained easily - and have been witnessed by people who have some interesting qualifications. If you are interested in what people presented as they claimed to see and even have a closer encounter of the third kind you want to check this book out..
Once again most of the information and writing was assembled by other more legitimate authors. Lots of interesting theories, records of events and discussion. Very little to none of Bob Larson's own ideas or influences.
