Billionaires Under Construction – The Mindset Of An Entrepreneur

Rate this book
Have you ever wondered what goes on in the mind of a successful entrepreneur? How they come up with their ground-breaking ideas, how they turn them into flourishing businesses, how they deal with failure, and what drives and motivates them?

Billionaire$ Under Construction is a blueprint of Sbu’s success; an honest and direct account of the setbacks he’s encountered, including his high profile dismissal from two of South Africa’s most prominent radio stations and his equally notorious run-in with Forbes magazine.

The way in which Sbu handles adversity reveals the triumph of his entrepreneurial spirit and the tenacity of a man who does, indeed, consider himself a billionaire under construction – and he won’t stop until his goal has become a reality.

This is a great book and I would recommend it to anyone who's looking for inspiration or motivation. DJ Sbu is a legend and I wasnt aware, until I read this book, that he's been through a lot morespecially with the Mofaya brand. I liked it more than his first book because it talks exclusively about Dj Sbu and about the challenges he has faced and how he overcame them. I especially liked the last chapter by Martin Mckenzie and the exercise. Truly inspirational stuff

A very short and informative read. If i had to describe it shortly I would call it a non conformer's diary.
Sbu writes about his downfall and triumphs so openly it's refreshing. For someone who receives a lot of criticism because of his unconventional marketing and all the name calling, Sbu takes responsibility for his actions and demonstrates a method to his madness. His business ventures, failed and thriving, have provided him with a well on information and lessons which he divulges in this book.

He has a lot of influences or people he looks up to but he makes it a point that he stays true to what he believes to be right. He encourages that if something has your name on it, make sure it's a reflection of your very best.

It's very evident as you read that his efforts revolve around a larger impact, leaving a legacy for his daughter, making Africa great, building leaders & entrepreneurs.

It's a pleasant and enlightening read on the person he is, his business ventures, how he manages his brand, what inspires him, i think there's a lot to learn from this book if you're an aspiring entrepreneur, more so if you are not afraid of tapping into unconventional marketing. I hope Mofaya becomes what Sbu and Siphiwe have built it to become. I absolutely love the goal of leadership 2020 and hope that everything works out so we can see the academy come to fruition

It really makes me very proud to read through a book from a successful Black South African entrepreneur. Dj Sbu is especially a key icon amongst the current Black youth in South Africa because we can relate to his story. Majority of Black South Africans grew up under poverty of varying degrees; given the history of Dj Sbu's life, I could relate to his story of coming from a poor background and working & learning his way to attaining a better life for himself and his family.

The key themes that are interestingly woven into to the fabric of this book are that of sacrifice, effort, perseverance and dogged hustle. I think these themes are synonymous with Black people who have been sacrificing, putting 200% effort into their work, persevering in the most difficult of times, and doggedly hustling to ensure the survival of their families. I believe what Dj Sbu was portraying in this book was that these characteristics are innate between Black Africans, and that we must just believe that we are enough to make it in this world, even despite our circumstances.

This is a must read for every entrepreneur, especially for Black entrepreneurs because we are the generation that has the onus to create legacies for the generations to come, and that is our struggle. I am inspired by the long term view that Dj Sbu and Siphiwe are taking in order to create the first Black owned beverage company, this is encouraging especially in a time when people want to make quick unsustainable money to the detriment of their enterprise.

This book is meant to be shared, I think there aren't enough stories shared about Black entrepreneurs and leaders who can be role models to young Africans. In conclusion this book incites you to do something about your own life, that no job is meagre or small for you, life is about humbling yourself, learning and growing, and no one can do it for you, You must take initiative and action to make the change you want to see.

Billionaires under Construction is a short and concise book providing advice on key things every entrepreneur should be doing to level up. DJ Sbu shares his story and how the recommended techniques have improved himself personally and in business. I particularly enjoyed his long term thinking and the way he tied this back to the actions he recommends entrepreneurs take. 129 pages, 10 Chapters covering key actions leaves you with an awesome list of next steps, that’s if you have not already taken them.

DJ Sbu helped me understand why some of the things I am doing has worked and helped me identify what I was not doing which led to my being stuck. Some things like understanding the true value of my network is taking longer than other actions however I am already starting to see how valuable this one activity may be.

I feel like I have read this 7 years later than I should have. This is because I have already come across most of the gems of wisdom shared in it. Otherwise, I have learnt a lot from some of the stories and failures from Dj Sbu’s personally journey.

This man surprised me and shifted my mindset about entrepreneurship and how to sell yourself and the product. Obviously things and success comes with hard work but you need to believe in yourself and your product. See every opportunity as an open door.

It is about a change of mindset, to think outside the box. This book really stirred my point of view regarding what an entrepreneur is and how to steer your business to success.
