Kate Beckett has always had a plan—get her professional life to the highest level, then focus on her personal life. She preferred things in a certain order and liked to check them off accordingly.
When her best friend loses her battle with cancer, Kate starts to wonder if maybe she's been living life all wrong. And, when letters from the dearly departed start to arrive, she is forced to take a look at her life and ask herself a very important question: “Are you happy?”
To honor her best friend's final wishes, Kate takes a chance in spontaneity that sends her straight into the arms of a man that was definitely not part of her plan. A man that is everything that makes her want to throw caution to the wind and live in the moment.
Now she must decide if living a life with regrets is something she can do or if she's willing to shake things up for a chance at true love.
Born and raised in the middle of a Midwestern cornfield (not literally, that would be weird), I’ve spent my entire life imagining stories. Stories where the right guy always gets the right girl, first kisses are as magical as they are on the big screen and anything is completely possible if you believe.
Although this journey began years ago, it recently took on a whole new life. After years of devouring hundreds of Romance, YA and New Adult novels, I had an epiphany... I should write a book. And I did it!
If I’m not reading, writing, enjoying drinks with my amazing group of girlfriends or chasing around a sarcastically funny kid, I’m probably watching television shows that were created for teenagers, while my husband teases that I’m too old to watch them.

Dear Kate by Elizabeth Lee is a sentimental, inspiring, and uplifting story of love, life, happiness and friendship. This is one of those special and rare stories that can relate to anyone not just romance fans. Life is about living it to the fullest and are you doing that? Am I? And so begins a dramatic and soulful journey of three best friends as they navigate what life has in store for them? To what new chapters they must embark on and what chapters they must put an end to?
Death. It’s a part of life. There is no escaping it and for some, death comes knocking on your door when you are the peak of living life. So when one of Kate Beckett’s best friend, Hope dies at the young age of 32 and leaves behind her two young children and husband, it devastates her, Willa, and Vanessa who were also Hope’s best friends. They knew Hope’s time was coming to an end after her long battle with cancer but it is never easy saying goodbye.
Thirty days from her death, Hope told her friends and husband that they were to open her Living Will & Testament. In this will, she informs her three friends and husband that they all have letters that needs to be opened on the assigned dates. And the first letter/story that readers get a glimpse into is Kate Beckett.
Kate is a litigation lawyer who is working her way to make partner. Her life is consumed with work, work, and more work leaving her little time to relax and enjoy life. And so in Hope’s first letter addressed to Kate, she tells her friend to live a little. Enjoy life because life is too short. Little does Kate know that Hope also mailed a letter to her husband’s old college roommate whom she wants Kate to meet.
Kate and Deacon hit it off immediately. They are both sexually attracted to one another and Deacon has the personality that intrigues Kate. While Kate is living in the fast and rich lane, Deacon left that life behind. He walked away from a high paying job because it didn’t make him happy. It didn’t fulfill his soul and so he does freelance investment works.
The old Kate should be turned off by Deacon’s choice of work and lifestyle but as she reads more letters from Hope, she realizes that Hope was right. Deacon makes her happy. He makes her see that there is more to life than work. But what happens when Kate is given the opportunity to make partner and Deacon is hitting the road, what will Kate chose?
Dear Kate is a beautiful story of life, love and happiness. This book was a perfect summer weekend read as it is a reminder to us all, to not let life pass you by. Find your soul. Find your tribe. Find your happiness. And most importantly, find something that makes you feel alive. With Kate finding her way, the next letter/installment will be of Willa, whom I am so excited for. I can’t wait for Willa’s story because she is someone who I can relate to. So if you are looking for a story that will ignite a fire into you to breathe and start living, then Dear Kate is the book for you.
It feels like it's been forever since I read an Elizabeth Lee book, so I was thrilled to learn she was releasing a new one. When I heard about Dear Kate, I knew I would have to read it and not just because I love Elizabeth's writing. The book sounded fantastic and like it would be right up my alley when I'm in the mood for a more emotional read. It should be no surprise at all that I really enjoyed it.
I expected this book to be an emotional journey and it was in some ways, but thankfully grief wasn't the main focus. I mean, don't get me wrong, there were emotions — both from me and the characters — but overall it was a really positive, hopeful book. That might've also been because the heroine, Kate, keeps her feelings locked up pretty tightly. She definitely doesn't wear her heart on her sleeve, but she's also not what I would consider a cold person. I really liked Kate. She was a great heroine and I enjoyed her journey. Plus, Deacon? Totally freaking swoony. I loved them together — the passion, the feelings, all of it... gold.
The premise for this book is unique — or at least it is to me. I liked the idea of the friend, Hope, interfering from beyond the grave. Not in a supernatural way, of course, but through the series of letters she left behind. There is so much story here to tell with these friends and I, for one, can't wait to get more. The second book, Dear Willa, can't get here soon enough! This was a great start to a new series I'm looking very much forward to following.
I received a copy of this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
FAVORITE QUOTES
The hardest part of dying is knowing that you're leaving behind people that you love without being able to tell them everything that you wanted. This is my attempt, so please stop trying to predict what I'm going to say, put your inner cynic to bed, and just hear me out.
"I'm not crying because I'm sad. I'm so fucking mad that it's either cry or punch things."
Dear Deacon, I hope this letter finds you well. As you may have heard – I’m dead.
For a split second she thought he might kiss the back of her hand – and she kind of wanted him to – but then she remembered what year it was.
Do you want me to kick his ass? … I will if you want. I’ve got some friends… I mean we’re all soccer dads and not really in prime fighting shape, but we could at least rough him up a little.
My Review:
Elizabeth Lee has mad skills and quickly pulled me into the story with her thoughtful writing and insightful narrative. Dear Kate was an entertaining and interesting story with a poignant and thought-provoking premise and a roster of compelling and enticing characters. Knowing she was losing her battle with cancer, an exceptionally perceptive young woman wrote an extensive collection of letters to her friends and family to opened at various specified times after her death. The writing was superb and well balanced between a budding romance, amusing humor, insightful inner musings, angst, and sensual steam. The characters were intriguing and uniquely flawed, and while they were not always likable they always continued to hold my interest. Kate’s dogged ambition led to selfish behaviors and she was often a jackass who was unable to see past her own nose. I adored Deacon; he was the quintessential BBF, smart, patient, funny, sexy, and multitalented in every room. He was perfection. As this installment concentrated mainly on Kate and laying the groundwork for the series, I am highly curious about the contents of the letters received by the family and other friends and am eagerly looking forward to the next installment.
"Laughter through tears is my favorite emotion." - Mr Truvy, Steel Magnolias
I love Elizabeth Lee. This is fact. I was so excited for her new book. And...BONUS...it's a series! Happy Dancing in Texas!!!
Hope is the glue that holds her friends group together. She has a lovely husband and 2 cute kids. But this is not her story. This is the story of what happens after her death. Hope reaches out to her loved ones to make sure they are taken care of after she is no longer there to do it. She is their pushy, know it all guardian angel. No this is not a Paranormal. Bare with me.
Kate (as in Dear Kate) is a high powered lawyer who works way to much to have a social life. She makes time for her friends and that takes all her free time and energy. After her best friend, Hope passes away, she is left to confront the truth about what Hope wishes for her in the form of letters.
You are strong enough to survive this, please don't lose yourself along the way.
Deacon is one of Hope's husband's friends. He has shaken off the rat race to live on his own terms. Terms that don't include obligations, offices or suits. His time card is his own. And he wants to give Kate options. Options she didn't know she had.
...her blood was boiling. There wasn't a skyscraper in sight. No pedestrians. No hustle and bustle. Nothing but wide open road..... ..."Kidnapping and breaking and entering. Anything else I should know about"?
I was crying at 11% in and swooning at 29% in. Dear Kate is one of those rare books that holds a mirror to your world and makes you stop to think about what you would do. What you would say. What you value.
I loved that Kate and Deacon are adults with pasts, expectations, and enough life under their belt to know what they want out of relationships. Kate's friends love and support her as well as annoy and aggravate. Just like real life. And the best part is that there are more letters to come. More of Hope's meddling from the grave. You can find me waiting by the mailbox.
There isn't a single thing that I didn't love about this book. This is a touching story about the importance of friendship, love, and finding happiness within yourself. I loved that this wasn't just a love story. It explored so many other things that are important in life like friendship and self worth.
Kate was once part of a tightly knit group of four friends comprising of her, Willa, Vanessa and Hope. Tragically, with no thanks to the scourge of breast cancer, that group has been reduced to three.
Hope didn't just leave memories behind her though. She also left behind a husband to whom she entrusted their two adorable young children, and a box of letters. Knowing that she wasn't going to win her battle, Hope had written dozens of letters, not just ones to be read by her children on special occasions, but also some for her three best friends.
Even from the grave, Hope's first letter to Kate does what Hope always did best. Impart advice ... and meddle.
For her part, Kate feels compelled to honor her best friends dying wishes, even though what's being asked of her is something that she might have refused had Hope still been living.
Kate, ever the serious, level headed one of the group, the one who's already up for partner at the law firm she works at, has been asked to do something so foreign to her nature that she's not even sure she can, even if she wanted to.
Have fun.
Starting at Hope's funeral, Dear Kate by Elizabeth Lee is one of those books that brings a kaleidoscope of emotions. Grief and sadness, hope and joy, fear, wonder, doubt and love. It's all there and more.
Told first person from dual perspectives, it follows Kate and Deacon, a guy Hope thought would be a good match for Kate as they embark upon an emotional quest as Kate seeks to understand where true happiness lies and discover whether she has the courage to search it out.
Unlike many series, the two other best friends, Will and Vanessa, not only feature heavily, but we see aspects of their own stories start to unfold in the background even as the bulk of the attention is on Kate.
I found this book to be a fantastic read, full of heart and joy, and can hardly wait for the next two volumes in the series.
Dear Kate, my 1st read of Elizabeth Lee's is such a beautifully written story, (love her style.) a story about love, life, & finding happiness (some must needed balance) in your life. Kate Beckett and her 2 close friends Vanessa and Willa are dealing with an extreme huge loss of their best friend Hope (who was 32, who has left behind a husband & 2 young kids.) to breast cancer. My recommendation is be sure to have tissues handy. This is a very emotional read, I enjoy that, when an author is able to pull in (out, whichever you should say there?) of you the reader (but the author wrote it, so they did find the way to bring such emotion in their words you can feel it, appreciate the ability to make you the reader feel those words, any who!!) you can feel the emotions and it is so deep, raw at times. Love and very much enjoy the banter, plot and these characters are so well knitted together. Can't wait to see what else this author will write in the future. I see there are so many books I have yet to check out. This is a perfect summer time read, or a read that will warm your heart, eyes and toes. Must read, I loved it! Glad to be one of the 1st to lay eye on this beauty. Love the cover! Such a new fan! ( ;
Kate, Willa and Vanessa’s best friend, Hope, died and she left letters behind for her best friends. Hope’s husband will give those letters when the time is right. Kate is the first person that Hope will help through her letters.
Kate is a lawyer and a workaholic, but she doesn’t mind it. She loves her job and always dreamed of being a partner in the company where she works. It has been a long time since Kate had a boyfriend and Hope wants to change that. Hope also wants Kate to enjoy life more. When Kate follows Hope’s advice, she meets Deacon. Kate is attracted to him and it’s mutual. Deacon wants to see Kate again after their first night and Kate makes time to be with him.
I loved Kate and Deacon. Deacon is the perfect man for Kate. He used to be just like Kate, but he changed his life and enjoys life more. He’s a rich and successful businessman, but he has more time to do the things he loves to do. Deacon makes Kate realizes several things. Kate’s life changes after meeting Deacon, but it’s better now. She’s happy again and that’s all Hope wanted. Hope knew exactly what Kate needed.
I also loved the secondary characters. Willa and Vanessa are amazing friends. I can’t wait for Willa’s book after that epilogue. I also want to know what else Hope has planned for her friends.
-- My honest review is based on an advanced reader copy of this book. --
What do you do when your best friends dies and leaves you letters telling you that she wants you to live a little?
That is what Kate has to handle after receiving her first letter from Hope, who has just passed away from breast cancer. Deacon, Hope's husband's best friend, also receives a letter. Together, they begin to help each other. And it's quite the experience to watch it happen! This story shows you what is important in life- friendship, family, love.
This story hit me from the beginning. I have my own group of close-knit friends (there were 4 of us, as well), and we experienced the death of one of us a few years ago. So I felt like I connected with this group right away.
Elizabeth Lee tackles this subject quite well. The characters were believable and the plot was well-developed. I am so looking forward to Willa's letters next-!!
Have you ever been so goal oriented you never realized you were missing out on the one true happiness in life, love? Our Kate is that person. She is striving for partner at one of Chicago's largest law firms and it's just within her grasp when she loses one of her best friends to cancer.
Hope fought as long as she could but the cancer finally took its toll. Once she found out how sick she was Hope sat down and penned letters to all of her friends, her husband, and her children to be given at specified times after her death.
Hopes letter to Kate was to be opened exactly one month after her burial. In the letter Hope urged her to find her balance between work and fun. She asked simply that Kate go out and have fun, something she rarely did. She hadn't had a relationship since college and the only time she ever went out was with Hope and their other best friends, Vanessa and Willa.
Deacon Yates was an old friend of Greyson, Hope's husband. He was once a workaholic who just wanted to keep climbing up the ladder of success but once he took a look at his life, he made a huge and drastic change. He still does what he loves but it's now his business and he works out of his RV. Sure, it's a little unconventional but it works for him. While home visiting his parents he retrieves his mail and low and behold he, too, has a letter from Hope. Inside his finds that he has been set up (from the grave) on a blind date with Hope's friend, Kate.
This book is about friendship, love, and what really matters most in life. It really will make you take a step back and look at your life, your priorities, and where you want it to go. Life is short, you know. There are so many emotions you go through while reading this book; sadness, grief, pain, happiness, joy, and love. There's just so many because Elizabeth Lee knows how to write a book, pull you in, and keep you in that world.
I can't wait to read Dear Willa and Dear Vanessa. Maybe we can even get a Dear Greyson out of it :) Just sayin'........
‘Dear Kate’ is the latest book by Elizabeth Lee and in it we get to know Kate as she comes to terms with the death of a friend and as she deals with the impact of this. I know that books are often described as emotional but this one really does tug at your heartstrings as you read. This was a 5 star read for me.
Being part of a such a close group of four friends Kate has had the support from each of them but when one of them is taken away by breast cancer the three left behind have to find a way to cope and continue on. Even though they knew their friend Hope was dying nothing quite prepares you for the loss. Before passing Hope had written some letters for those she left behind comprising of some thoughts, instructions and wishes.
When Kate gets her letter she is thrown through a bit of a loop but feels that she can’t not follow through with her friends wishes as maybe Hope knew what Kate was feeling inside but just never let herself do. Although for most being told to ‘have fun’ is something that they would think nothing of but for Kate is something that she never lets herself do.
As you read this your heart swells with the feelings that have been evoked through the wonderful writing provided by Elizabeth Lee. I think for me it was easy to get lost in the in this book and follow Kate on her journey.
Hope had her idea of who would be a good match for Kate and sets things in motion through her letters but for anything to happen Kate has to allow herself the courage to take chances.
Personally I loved this book and am really looking forward to getting to see what happens in the books to come that focus on the others in this small group of friends. In this book we have already gotten to know Willa and Vanessa a bit with a hint of what would be to come in their stories. I would and do recommend reading this book.
Kate Beckett is doing one of the hardest things she has ever had to do - give the eulogy for one of her best friends, Hope. But then Hope surprises her a month later when they read her will and discover that she has written letters for her making her question her life and loves.
Professionally Kate is a hard working lawyer who is finally being recognized for everything she has contributed but in her personal life she is lacking as she never has time for a man in her life.
When Hope introduces Kate to Deacon Yates she discovers that money can't buy everything but is she ready to give up everything she has worked so hard to obtain?
When she also tries to assist her other best friends, Willa and Vanessa with their own lives will that leave Kate with more clarity or less?
This was a great book on love and living a full life that maybe nothing like what you thought it would be.
Kate worked super hard to become the lawyer she has all of her professional goals set out but nothing at all for her personal life. I think it's almost like whatever she has professionally will just consume her personal life and then she won't have to worry about it.
Declan was a breath of fresh air to Kate. He was motivated and hard working yet he realized he wasn't happy and wanted to live life on his own terms and that is something I totally admired. I love that he was able to follow his own path.
Declan's path was so different than what Kate thought was what she wanted. I love how that made Kate question everything.
I love the letters that Hope wrote and how they came to everyone at the right time. I am so proud of what Hope did for Vanessa and how she pushed her in the right direction. I am really curious to see where that story line goes and I wonder if in book 3 it will be Vanessa and Greyson.
Great intro to the series and looking forward to Willa next!
When I first read the idea for this series I was hooked. There is just something about reading how different people deal with grief that holds a special place in my heart. I have, like so many others, have had my fair share in my life and each time it's different. For every person in my life it's different. Seeing my kid deal with it is different, and well eye opening. Kids are tiny superheroes sometimes.
What happens when your fierce foursome of friends is suddenly a tear filled threesome? That what this series is about after Hope loses her battle with cancer leaving behind her husband, kids and three best friends. We quickly find out Hope has set certain things in motion to make sure her friends don't leave this Earth with their own regrets. She has written a letter, or letters to each of them letting them know just how she feels.
In this first book we find Kate struggling with the control she feels she must have in life to balance her success in a very lucrative law career and her love for her friends. Little did she know, Hope was about to shake the very ground beneath her feet and rock her world. To say she fights it is an understatement.
In comes Deacon and his freestyle life. A life Kate doesn't see as successful or fulfilling. At first. She quickly realizes that Deacon makes her more happy than a partner plaque on the wall at her law firm could ever make her. But can her definition of success change so much she's willing to give up all her hard work over the years for a spontaneous adventure with the man she falls herself falling harder for everyday?
Dear Kate, and I am sure the next two to follow, are sweet, sentimental stories of love and friendship. Hope reminds us that life is incredibly too short not to take risks and live life without regrets.
----- She let her eyes wander down the church pew to the faces of Willa and Vanessa—her two living best friends. For so many years there had been four of them. Four friends who did everything together. Four friends who shared secrets, dreams, and countless bottles of wine. They knew each others’ favorite things, and, even more, they knew who, what, and why someone or something pissed off the other. They were the kind of friends that most women wished for. The kind of friends that women were jealous of. And now there were three.
I loved this book! It got me in the feels with the very first chapter! 😢
I love a good book with a strong heroine and Kate is nothing if not strong. She's an accomplished lawyer, had a spectacular apartment and some of the very best friends a girl could want. It saddened me that one passed away at such a young age, but to watch the other 3 friends rally and be there for each other was truly amazing. To help each othe cope and too look out for Hopes widow and children. It's what true friendship is all about.
Then the letters came...oh my. More tears. Hope spent her dying days writing letters to her friends. Hope was the glue that held them all together and she knew with her passing they would be lost. They would need direction and maybe a little 'push' from their dearly departed friend.
The letters were very well drafter, filled with love, encouragement and help that only a true friend could give.
I definitely loved the story and getting to know all thes characters. They all have very different traits and mesh really well together. Can't wait for the next book!
Three friends are forced to face life without their fourth best friend, Hope. Hope left behind a trove of letters with insights into the happiness of those she left behind. While the trio (Kate, Willa and Vanessa) desperately misses their fourth, the guidance she left behind in her letters is upending the lives they thought they wanted.
Kate is a career-focused lawyer who hasn't found someone in her quest to make partner at her law firm. She is so stuck in her routine she hasn't made time to experience the other joys in life.
Hope wrote Kate a letter regretting she didn't get to see Kate fulfilled outside of her career. While pushing Kate to re-examine her life, Hope has also written a letter to Deacon, her husband's friend. Hope sets up a meet-cute, hoping the two will hit it off. They do, but Deacon had chosen to stop living the rat-race life Kate is still pursuing.
I felt like there was enough going on the get to know our full cast of characters, but not so much that it felt like Kate and Deacon existed just to introduce the rest of the crew. You can really feel how close this group is and how much Hope's death impacted them all. They are a supportive, but no BS bunch, pushing each other to find something worth fighting for, even when they are still figuring out life without Hope.
Even with how different Deacon and Kate might seem in terms of lifestyle, it felt like their relationship rolled out in a realistic way. I wouldn't say there is a big surprise ending for this duo, but their journey was sweet.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
Kate Beckett and her two closest friends Vanessa and Willa have just lost their best friend Hope to breast cancer. Hope was the glue that cemented their incredible friendship together and she is greatly missed. Hope's husband Greyson and her two children are absolutely devastated by her death. Hope maybe gone but she assured she will not be forgotten. Before her death she wrote enormous amount of letters to her close friends and family asking them to honor her last wishes and requests.
Her first letter is to Kate a workaholic lawyer asking her to take some time to have some fun in her life and to find a balance between work and down time. Hope, through her letters has arranged for Deacon Yates and Kate to meet for she believed that they would make a great pair and she was right. Yet as great as there are together there is still the problem of Kate's need to be a partner in her firm and Deacon's unusual lifestyle. Ms. Lee does a wonderful job resolving this dilemma and has written a delightful love story with a HEA ending. This charming heartwarming story is a pleasure to read and I definitely recommend it.
I received this book from the author and I am freely posting this fair and balance review.
I had been patiently waiting to get my hands on another Elizabeth Lee book and Dear Kate was definitely worth the wait! This story of loss and love is one that everyone can relate too. Hope loses her battle to cancer at the young age of 32 and now her three best friends must learn how to go on with out her. Little did they know Hope wasn't done being there for her girls and widowed husband. Through letters Hope left behind Kate is forced to take a look at her own life. Is she really living or just going through the motions? Success in her career has been her main focus . But after following Hope's instructions and meeting Deacon she started asking her self would making partner and the big corner office make her happy? Or will it be waking up in is strong arms every morning?
Dear Kate captured and kept my attention from the first page to the last. I felt like I was there grieving and learning how to move on with them. Kate's journey to discover what truly made her happy is something we can all relate to in one way or another. I wasn't ready for her story to be over! Now I cannot wait to see where Willa's story will go after receiving her long awaited letter from Hope.
What an unexpected and beautifully crafted romance. How do you move on when you lose your best friend? Kate, Vanessa and Willa and facing that reality but their friend Hope, the queen of lists, doesn’t leave this earth without leaving something behind. Hope left a box of letters with instructions on when to deliver for her husband Greyson. Kate’s letters from Hope force her to really look at her well-ordered, career driven, no fun, life. Is this really the path she should be following? This is a struggle for Kate but then Deacon enters her life, he had the high powered career and gave it up to freelance and make his office in an RV, loving every minute. This truly pushes all of Kate’s boundaries. Will she be able to let go of her anchors? At the same time, we get to experience how this amazing group of friends bands together to face their challenges while coping with their grief. I felt like I really got to know these characters and wanted to be a part of their circle. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.
I was so happy to be able to enjoy this first book in the Letters series, Dear Kate by Elizabeth Lee. It was also the first book I have read by Elizabeth Lee. It was simply beautiful. Heartwarming and moving, the story of four friends, facing the challenges of life including the loss of one of these friends. She tries to aid her friends through this difficult time of loss with letters addressed to each of them containing advice to help them move on and maneuver their way through. From the grave she uses her first few letters to play match maker for her college friend Kate. Kate was the no nonsense, career minded woman. She has no time for romance. Through her friends letters she is introduced to the one man who can understand her philosophy of life and also show her the way to balance. I can hardly wait for the next book in the series to see what the next letter holds.

When Kate looses her best friend, her life take a turn. It seems her friend, Hope left her letters, making her question her life and her choices.
Hope seems to know what everyone in her life may need once she is gone. She has always been the friend who knew it all and whom everyone turned to. Hope had always wanted to introduce Kate to Deacon (her husband's college friend). Crazy as it is, she sends Deacon a letter too. She knows Deacon is what Kate needs. The person to make her see there is more out of life then working. Deacon has been there and done that. Now, he has found other things to make him happy besides work.
I really enjoyed this story. It was a rollercoaster of emotions. Death will have a way to do that n a book. But, I enjoyed Hope's letters and can't wait to see what happens with everyone else she has written to!
Dear Kate - The Letters # 1 by Elizabeth Lee 5 Stars
Dear Kate is one of those stories that grabbed me from the very beginning and wouldn't let me go until the epilogue. If only we could all have friends like Hope, Kate, Willa, and Vanessa. I laughed "I thought red hair was in now?...I think it lost its negative connotations when Ed Sheeran came along"; I cried "They were the kind of friends that most women wished for. The kind of friends that women were jealous of. And now there were three."; I really went through the whole gamut of emotions while reading this story in one sitting.
I cannot wait to see what the letters bring in future installments of this series.
A beautiful story of love and loss and learning to let go.
Kate's best friend dies and in her will, she leaves a series of letters for her loved ones. In her letters to Kate, Hope provides encouragement and love in her words. She pushes Kate to live her life, to be open to possibilities. Hope also plays matchmaker from the grave.
This was a beautifully written story that has cross-genre appeal. I am admittedly a sap, so I should warn you to have your tissues ready. There was sad moments, happy moments and moments that just left me at peace.
Kudos to Elizabeth Lee on this amazing new release!
ARC provided by the author in exchange for a review.
Elizabeth Lee is a new author to me, I saw a sign up for Dear Kate a few weeks ago and after reading the blurb I decided to add it to my TBR and hope to be chosen. I am happy I took a chance with this one. The story was well written and I enjoyed the characters. I look forward to reading more from Elizabeth soon!
Thank you for allowing me the chance to read and review.
When Hope dies after a long battle with cancer she leaves behind a box of letters for her husband to mail at different times. Some of the letters are for her two children and some are for her three best friends. The impact Hope had on their lives continues even after she is gone. This is such a poignant and thought provoking book. It touched my heart on so many levels and brought me to tears at the end. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
This was the first book I read by Elizabeth Lee and I can say that I simply loved it! The story is very well written and the characters are captivating, and I found myself rethinking my life, whether I'm really living it to the fullest, or just existing. The decisions that Kate decides to make after receiving letters from her dearly friend are not easy, but in the end they are worth it to make her truly happy. This is a beautiful story, I loved it!
Great start to what is going to be an emotional series about life-long friends that are pulled even further together due to the passing of Hope - these ladies literally lost their Hope but she can pull them together even after her passing. Kate is a lawyer continuously trying to move up and up while working 60+ hours and leaving no time for a social life. Deacon Yates has left the conventional corporate world to travel and work on the road. Can these two make their obvious chemistry work or will Kate find every excuse under the sun to push him away?
Ok folks make sure you have a couple of tissues on hand when you start this book. There are a few scenes that will get the tears flowing, but there are also some laughs throughout the book. Kate and Deacon's story was good. I loved the leap of faith aspect of their relationship. I can't wait to read what Hope's letters have in store for the other girls and her husband.
Such a beautiful, emotional story! Makes you stop to think about your own life. We all need to stop and "smell the roses" from time to time and enjoy life. This story about Kate and Deacon was very well written with a gripping storyline. Held me throughout! It was sad, happy, emotional and sweet. Loved all the characters! Can't wait until the next book releases in this series!
