Fynn needs to be away from home for a while and he takes his dog, Boone, with him on his trip. He ends up in Butterfield and he soon meets Ella in the store where she works. The next day, Fynn goes back to that store and hopes to see Ella again. Ella is happy to see Fynn again. Fynn decides to stay a little longer in Butterfield and he starts to work in the park right across from the store. Ella goes to see him and she loves to spend time with him.
I loved Fynn and Ella! I loved them together! Ella is stuck at Butterfield, because she doesn’t want to disappoint her parents. The accident that happened many years ago still affects her life. Fynn makes her think again about her life and maybe make some changes. Ella is finally happy again.
Fynn is a sweetheart and a gentleman. He works very hard at the park and makes the place look beautiful again. He loves to be with Ella and his feelings only become stronger for her. Fynn is hiding sometimes. I loved his bond with Boone. Boone is an amazing dog and he’s so cute!
Wingman was my first read by Tess Oliver, but it won’t be my last. I already own several of her books, because they always sound so good. The cover of this book is the reason why this is my first read. Fynn looks hot and I loved it that Boone is on the cover. The cover is funny, adorable and sexy. Wingman is a great read!

After chapter 10 I can finally understand what the heck were Angels no.1..... and Lucky 13,but it's still not enough for me to be ecstatic about it. Yes it's sweet with a twist you can already asume thru the story but still a bit lame.

Do not judge the cover and the title but they do fit perfectly too well with this story.
i may have shed some tears of emotion with this book. This book was a real mystery and you discover the real purpose by the end, what a sneaky sneaky little big truth, but the whole book was finding yourself/being yourself, contempt. Only those fact were already awesome, it was light and not suspicious it felt grounded until the drama came once and twice but quickly divert or more quickly solved.
I enjoyed the characters, easy to like them and they were no supermodel, super of anything but people caught up with an unfortunate horrid event in their life and they were so kind. Yep, an unexpected non torrid read with a lot of easiness with an interesting plot.

Ok, this one took me by surprise. I don't want to get too into the particulars, because I feel like things kind of unwrap nicely as it goes. I did see some stuff coming, but definitely not all, really great world building with the town of Butterfield, AND I got weepy at the end from sentimentality, which doesn't happen to me often.

DNF at 57%.
I had really high hopes going into this book. I really enjoyed Tess Oliver's other book Hard Edge, so I thought it would be the same for this one as well. Sadly it was not. I know that this book got great reviews and I am sorry that I am not one of those but this was just not the book for me.

Not long into the story the reader starts to realize Fynn knows more about this tragedy then he's letting on. This story, to me, was about seeking answers and redemption.

The whole Angel and Lucky Thirteen thing...
In this small town several years earlier there was an accident that killed 12 children. Fynn moves into the town and starts fixing the fountain that used to be the "life" of the town.
I love small town stories and I loved the premise of this one. It had a great start but after 60% it lost it's steam. The premise was good, but I think that the execution was weak in some parts.

Ella lives in the crumbling town of Butterfield, and one day handsome stranger Fynn rolls through, oddly, on a trip to bring the town square back to life. But Fynn actually has alternative motives, and is looking for answers and peace for a tragedy that happened when he was just a kid.
Ella has lived in a small town her entire life. Everyone knows everyone else’s business, and Ella can’t help but thing that there is life outside the small town of Butterfield. So when Fynn offers to take her away is she willing to take him up on the offer? What will she do when she finds out the real reason Fynn is in town?
The story was fun; a little predictable at times and it took awhile to warm up to the characters, but overall it was an enjoyable read. I’m really not a fan of instalove stories and this one is seriously instalove. After the big reveal at the end it seemed that the ending was rushed, and I would have liked to see a little more resolution between the town and Fynn.
The book is told in a first person POV from Ella’s perspective. The story moves along fairly quickly, but it feels like there could have been a little more development, both plot wise and character wise. The cover is a little misleading, but if you like sweet, contemporary romance with some heat, give this one a try.

I thought their relationship seemed to move too quickly for my liking. I tend to like the romance novels where the relationship develops more slowly or maybe even starts out on the wrong foot. This one was pretty sexual right from the start.
The ending was weak as well. The big reveal that his dad was the bus driver was expected, but the idea that she surpressed the memory for years and everyone in the town let her think she wasn't on the bus seems odd to me. Not one time in the years since the accident did anyone mention it to her, out of anger or anything? Plus the whole concept of her having slept around just seemed thrown in for drama.
It just seemed disjointed to me.

It took me forever to read this book! The story wasn't that engaging to me, as I found it too shrouded in mystery and secrets to keep my interest in it. I also didn't believe in the events after the tragedy, it just didn't seem realistic! Fynn's big reveal wasn't that big of a deal to me, and I thought Ella was a bit of a pushover when it came to her job. It was a bit difficult for me to believe in the insta-love between the two of them, but I could also rationalize it happening. Just wasn't a good fit for me...

I completely enjoyed the main characters. They were sweet, funny and had the personality that made the plot that much better. I didn't care for the secondary characters so much.

Tess Oliver has written an awesome new book-Wingman! I loved this book because not only do I totally love the main characters, but this was a story about a whole town full of characters, their pasts, their secrets, and what has happen when a young man named Fynn, and his dog Boone ride into town!
Since anyone coming into town is a big deal, when Fynn -all 6 foot of him and his long hair, beard, and all his tattoos walks into the convenience store and is waited on by Ella, a 22 year old beautiful woman and he is struck by her. After he buys his stuff he goes over to the park and eats and then starts to clean up the fountain which has been let go 11 years ago, and that along with everything else in the park is like it has given way to the weeds and overgrowth. As he watches everyone it seems like the town is dying and the only thing well kept is the cemetery. Ella walks over to bring him water, and they become friends instantly. Since the town is so small all the women stare at Fynn through the store window-even the mayor -and she is a great character!
Ella and Fynn, along with Boone, his dog, start spending all their time together and he quickly realizes he has found someone he does not want to leave town without. While everyone is glad of his help with the exception of a few, others also start helping to restore the park to its former glory. Ella also has feelings for Fynn and she wants to be with him. There are some great hot scenes between these two. When the park has the fountain going, the town pitches in to finish the park and the town wants to have a party for Fynn.
Unfortunately, both Fynn and Ella, along with the whole town has secrets that can affect the outcome of everything, and they do not share these secrets, and when it comes out you will see what happens.
I just have to say that this is one of the best books I have read this year, I love everything Tess Oliver writes, but this book was exceptional! It has a terrible event happen, 11 years of suffering, and then redemption, healing and love.

As funny as the cover of "Wingman" is this read provides us with a wonderful story of redemption and foregiveness. Fynn has taken time out from life to explore the countryside in search of ??????? He ends up in Butterfield, a small that has truly seen better days. The park has a run down fountain that barely trickles water, the pavillion is sorely in need of paint, the grass hasn't been green in years and the lake is full of muck. Yet, something compels Fynn to begin removing the weeds and muck from the fountain. Maybe it has something to do with the blue-eyed beauty who works in the store across the street stacking twinkies.
When Fynn enters the store little did he know that he would find a reason to stay in Butterfield for longer than the moment it took to grab a sandwich. However, he and his wingman, Boone decided to stay in town long enough to restore the fledgling fountain. As he begins the work, people of the town begin wandering over to check out the man with the van, dog and a body full of tattoos. He is something new, strange and sexy. As he works on the fountain, he gets to know Ella, the blue-eyed girl from the store and finds there is something so incredible about her. He also learns of the great tragedy of the town that sent it in a downward spiral.
It is strange how a tragic event can be viewed from many different perspectives even though it has devastating effects on those involved. However, the miracle is that just with a little effort hope and forgiveness can emerge from the despair. I really enjoyed this story especially the characterizations and the world building. This is one of those reads where it is hard to tell who is the bad guys or if there truly are any bad guys. As always, Tess Oliver has another great book on her hands. She writes with such a wonderful way of making you feel you are right there with the characters and you can visualize every scene. This is definitely a book you will want to put on your "to read" list.

Wow, I have only one thing to say about Wingman…SUPERB! Brava Tess Oliver. I absolutely loved this book. In case you did not know, Wingman is Tess Oliver’s new book. I have so much to say, yet I cannot say anything. I do not want to ruin it for everyone. From the very first page, I knew this was going to be a book I did not rush to read. It truly is one to be savored. There are the two main characters, Fynn and Ella, but there are so many more, in fact the entire town. Tess Oliver has such a way with character development. She has brought all these characters to life without you feeling overwhelmed with trying to keep track of everyone. By chapter two, you truly feel like you know each and every one of the characters. Wingman has so much depth, so many twists and turns. There is drama, suspense, laughter, secrets, heartbreak, and a dog named Boone. I was literally crying, laughing, holding my breath, angry, and crying again. Oh, and let’s not forget the unbelievable attraction between Fynn and Ella after one glance. Also, this is a book written by Tess Oliver, so of course there were the amazing, HOT sex scenes…so, so hot. Wingman had me on the edge of my seat. I have to say I know it is only May, but I believe this is my book for the year, I do not think it will be topped, but Tess Oliver has a way of proving me wrong on this point. I highly recommend Wingman. I would plan on not doing too much when you start reading this book, because it will grab you from page one, and you will not be able to put it down. It would be a crime if you miss out on reading this book. I have read and truly love all of Tess Oliver’s books, but Wingman has just hit home for me. Let me just say, this is probably the most adorable cover I've ever seen.
Moving on.
I have to say, Ella was a different heroine than I'm used to. Usually characters with her type of past are labeled as the snarky or evil side character not THE heroine. She was quite different and I'm jot sure it worked for me.
The story was actually pretty fun. Strange guy blows into town with his adorable dog. Swoops the heroine off her feet (kinda) and earns the respect and love of the otherwise less than friendly townsfolk.
Why three stars? It was so blah. So dry, nothing reached out of the page and grabbed me by the shirt and said FEEL ALL THE FEELS. I was just sort of ambivalent. Which is weird because it had a pretty deep plot and I should have felt more but I just didn't.
Here's the facts:
1.) Cheating? Nope.
2.) Cliffhanger? No.
3.) HEA? Yes which isn't always the case with Tess Oliver, she likes to write HFN vs HEA.
4.) Violence? Nope. Not that kinda story.
5.) Writing/Grammar? I love Tess's style and she's easy to follow and enjoy.
6.) Sexual content? Small town heroine who gives the new man in town a hard time because she doesn't do casual and knows he'll be leaving soon? Yeah, that's not this heroine lol - she's DTF and you don't have a long wait until sexy-times happen but it's not like the book is so full of sexual content you're over it. It just starts sooner than you'd normally expect with this type of story. the actual sex scenes are vanilla and didn't really heat up for me, again, blah.
7.) Would I recommend this book to my friends? Not really. I only recommend books to others that blow me away and this one just didn't do it.
8.) Premise/Trope? Small town, nosy residents, new fascinating stranger etc
9.) POV? Dual.

The mysterious, gorgeous, hot, bearded and tatted Fynn (with his dog, Boone) arrives in the (really) small town of Butterfield with an agenda and no intention of staying, but his immediate connection with the sweet, small town girl, Ella changes his intentions and, eventually, his perspective on the town and it's citizens....But Fynn has secrets, the citizens have secrets...even Tess has a few secrets, and as everyone knows, most secrets eventually come out.❤️
Even with all of the secrets and twists and turns, WINGMAN is a beautiful love story, and once you pick it up, you won't put it down until you are through..❤️
Tess Oliver is one of my favorite authors, and I believe I have read every book she has written....and because of those two facts alone, when I begin a Tess Oliver book, I know two things: I'm going to love it, and I'll give up sleep to read it straight through, because she writes books I love to read...With WINGMAN (Just a Guy and His Dog), she not only didn't disappoint me, she actually made me feel a new level of intensity in her writing.❤️

Ella and Fynn meet when he enters the town of Butterfield and becomes enchanted with Ella. We know Fynn had it on his list of places before he got serious and settled down to get a real job and begin his life. What we don't know is why he is there. Ella and the town of Butterfield have not really moved on in the 11 years following a horrific accident. She is referred to as "Lucky 13" and lives with loss and survivor's guilt daily. Her parents still treat her as if she is 12 and she allows it. Fynn is 24-years-old and knows he needs to start his life and let go of the anger that has been festering inside of him for so many years. I was able to pretty quickly figure out what his secret was, but the story was still one that flowed well and kept me interested. The story is told in such a way that you got nuggets of information meted out slowly and it is given in a context of the characters learning about each other. Fynn and Ella bring out the best in each other without even realizing it. Fynn goes above and beyond in trying to bring life back to the centerpiece of the town. He doesn't know why he starts the project, just that it is helping him heal and spend time with Ella. Ella makes great strides in moving forward with her life and showed a lot of gusto when she put her mind to something. As usual, secrets come out and there is uncertainty after they are revealed, but that's what made this such a good story. You will have to read it to find out how it ends.

Oh Tess, You had me with Flynn's description !!!!. What a brilliantly written story !. Its a Standalone and features Flynn, Ella and Flynn's dog Boone. Basically Flynn and Boone are passing through a town and meet Ella. One thing leads to another and Flynn decides to stay a while.
The town is not all what it seems and as Flynn and Ella's friendship starts to turn into something more......secrets are uncovered and can we be sure that those secrets wont push our two would be love birds apart?!!!.
As with all Tess's books, you just carn't put them down until you reach the words "the end".
This book may sound to some a little "hum hoo" (as I would say). To help out with my meaning.....try thinking that others might perceive that "this book sounds a bit "oh nothing too thrilling with this tale"....but you would be so wrong.
Tess ensures that all her stories have dips and dives and plenty of feelings of "uh ?, never saw that one coming !" for her readers. Tess's characters are always well developed and her stories progress at a pace that fits the tale perfectly....no qualms from me !!

This standalone by Author Tess Oliver was different from most of her other stories, but I came to love it right away. I enjoyed the developing storyline of Ella and Fynn. As I read, I learned why Ella chose not to leave Butterfield and what drew Fynn to the small town and its people. Boone was the perfect companion for Fynn and quick detector of personalities. I come to appreciate the title, Wingman, and it’s meaning to the story. This is NOT your average, boy meets girl, falls in love story. There’s so much that I enjoyed, learning how the past had effected so many people and also the present. Secrets and lies abound in this story, but they are each revealed in time. The overall story is heart wrenching, but the effort of Ella and Fynn to live life, makes for many laugh out loud moments. Even though there are so many references to the past, I didn’t get whiplash as the storyline flowed and I found myself, reading just one more chapter, or two! Well written and most enjoyable. Another 5 star by Author Tess Oliver!

Wingman is about Ella and Fynn (& Boone, of course). Fynn had taken a road trip to "find himself", and he originally had a purpose for stopping in Butterfield, but upon seeing the town so sad and lost in time, he decides to leave...until he sees Ella. Ella has lived her entire life in Butterfield, dealing with a sorrow no family or town should ever have to go through.

Tess Oliver is one of my favorite authors but this has to be my favorite book of hers.
WINGMAN has it all! Love, loss, twists, turns, hot guy, sweet girl, a town like no other, and an awesome dog named, Boone. Fynn and Ella are two amazing people with lives that are filled with struggles, due to their past. Trying to find a future and work through the pain of the past is something that they need to do but are not aware they need to do together until their paths cross in the town of Butterfield. Fynn, a kind-hearted man makes a decision to stay and work trying to gain some perspective on life and falls in love, while Ella tries to live up to being named Lucky 13 all her life. Tess Oliver keeps us on our toes through the book, highly engaged and wanting more.
I couldn’t put it down. I don’t want to say too much about it is because this book has so much depth that explaining in detail will give spoilers and I HATE that! Grab some wine and crave out some time and just enjoy! You will not regret it! Thanks Tess, 5 stars and then some!

Unexpectedly good story.
The town of Butterfield is stuck in the past, due to a terrible tragedy. Fynn arrives with the intent of a brief stopover, and sees Ella stacking Twinkies in front of the only store. With the entire town looking overgrown and faded, she stands out as a bright splash of color, and he is drawn to her. Clearly, he has some issues to work out, which is why he's on the road. The townspeople also have some secrets of their own, and are very distrustful of strangers. Fynn decides to clean up the fountain in the middle of the neglected park in the center of town, if only to have a reason to get to know Ella. Ella, having been stuck in time along with the town for some twelve years, is attracted to Fynn, since he's a newcomer and not someone she grew up with, like everyone around her. Eventually, the tragedy is revealed, as well as all the old secrets.
I kinda guessed at some of the secrets, but toward the end, I was glad I didn't figure it all out. Well paced story.

I bought this book for the cover, like who wouldn't.It turned out to be so much more. I thought it was going to be a fun, easy going romp, but oh no. This book revolves around a very small town that was struck my tragedy, twelve children lost their lives in a horrible accident , everyone in this town was connected to one of these Angels, so the entire town pretty much shuts down. Ella is a women who has more connection to the tragedy than anyone else, she is number thirteen, she lost her twin brother, and all of her friends, she is just muddling through life to afraid to leave.
Fynn and Boone came into this quaint town on a roadtrip, and sees Ella and knows he can't leave yet, he decides to stay and help put life back into this town, and Ella.
This was such an unexpected story, their are lost of hidden truths, and secrets, that unfold, I feel like I already gave away to much. I love the way this author describes her characters to match the cover exactly, that is Fynn on the cover, and who wouldn't to know more about him and his wingman Boone.

Tess Oliver shines in her new stand alone Wingman. This is a wonderful tale of self discovery, coming together, surviving grief, moving on and of course falling in love. When Fynn rolls into Butterfield, he plans to see the town and leave. It's a small town and while he has his reasons for seeing it, it's just a blip on the map. He never expected to see Ella. He never expected to want to be there and he really never expected to feel for this small town. Ella has been in this small town her whole life. She's had more grief than the average person but then again, the whole town has and it shows. Ella never thinks of leaving, never thinks of moving forward, just keeps moving in a straight line until Fynn throws a bump in her steady and boring road. They will learn from each other, they will teach others, they will all grow. The characters are brilliantly written and I just love this story. It has twists and turns but brings you back to hope and love. Well done!!

I couldn't put this book down once I started! It was absolutely beautiful **cry face**. Every emotion you could think of was expressed in this book. From happiness, despair, sadness, elation, you name it, it's there.
We have Flynn (and Boone) & Ella our main characters, instant attraction! With Flynn thinking "She looked as out of place in the sad little town as a star would look on a cloudy night. At the same time, she looked as if she was the heartbeat of the town, the one sparkle of light keeping the whole fucking place alive". That just got me hook line and sinker **smirk face**.
This book we saw how individuals were affected by a sever tragedy and how they went about their lives and how it took just one action to snowball the healing of a whole town. And the questions and doubt to finally come to light.
Wow! Tess, just WOW! I could give you a massive hug for this one.

This is the story of Fynn and Ella. When past events happen and the events are set in motion that two people meet eleven years later in the town of Butterfield, but when one is not telling the other person the reason for being in town. Can love blossom between two people who are different but deep down are the same. This is a true love story that incorporates the pain of loss, the struggles to continue or of the strength of a whole town that help each other in there time of need. I couldn´t put the book down from page one till the end amazing well written Tess Oliver delivers on all emotions throughtout this book. 5/5 stars.

I love a good read that has it all and Wingman doesn't disappoint!
Where to start with out spoilers...well Fynn and his dog Boone are wondering as Fynn tries to make sense of his life, and when they wonder into the small desolate town of Butterfield and lock eyes with the deep blue eyes of Ella a whole series of events is set into motion that will change everything the town has always believed, and rewrite history to help heal old wounds.
I wasn't sure at first glance I'd really like this book but wow did Tess draw me in, I couldn't put it down, there are so many twists to this story making it a five star read!

Story of Fynn (stupid name) and Ella.
Butterfield is filled with sadness. The town looks like it died years and years ago. He's driving through and stops in the store where Ella works. It's instalove. But then we learn why Butterfield is sad. And Fynn tries to give it new life. And then we learn the secrets the town, Ella's parents and Fynn were keeping.
Gah. I made the mistake of thinking that the hot guy and the pug would lead to a lighthearted story. This is nothing like that.
This is still good, but with heavy themes. There's an HEA, so still a romance. I don't care that she's OCD and Ella's BFF, Patty's a bitch.
