Skandynawski sekret. 10 prostych rad, jak żyć szczęśliwie i zdrowo

Rate this book

I came across this book by accident at a Book Fair, and with me having a general interest in the Nordic lifestyle, it grabbed my attention.
Now, being honest, I think this book contains a lot of general knowledge that most people are already aware of, and really, a good deal of common sense. When it comes to our health, I think some people tend to ignore the negative health implications caused by a bad way of living. It isn't until something major happens, that we begin to listen up.
This book contains some fairly interesting information on different food and drink, and the positive impact they have on our health, by consuming them. I have learned that turmeric has a strong anti inflammatory effect on the body, and I have the recipe for a super drink with turmeric to attempt to make at home.
It may seem irrelevant to some, but this is a beautiful, hardback book with an inviting cover. I would have seriously purchased it just to look good on my bookshelf!

I probably wasn't the ideal reader for this book. I've spent a lot of time researching health and happiness in recent years, so I may have been expecting too much to hope that this book would have anything life changing or new to say -- and it didn't. But if you're a health and happiness newbie and you're looking for a quick crash course on what does and doesn't lead to a better life, this slim little guide (143 very tiny pages!) may be just what you're after. It's encouraging, evidence-based, and it delivers on its promise to offer "10 Easy Tips for a Happier, Healthier Life."

Not at all what I hoped for. Super basic info (although it was true) and some nutritional info that will probably be changed in a couple years. Was hoping for more traditional nordic lifestyles

8. Lichaamsbeweging is belangrijk (best elke dag 30-45min, 3x/week actief en 2x/week krachttraining EN elke 30-45min even opstaan om jouw bloed terug te laten stromen).

Nordic? Really? These are tips I've seen in countless books and blogs. I see almost nothing specifically Nordic, other than a couple statistics. On the plus side, it's a super-quick read. Why? Because there's little to glean. Unless it's your first self-help/health improvement book, you'll already know what BMI is; how stress affects you; and how to increase healthy food while decreasing trans fats. If you want a great book on the subject, there's several other good books to choose from. My top pick would be: "The Little Book of Hygge: Danish Secrets to Happy Living," by Meik Wiking.

From the overly simplistic (and frankly rather insulting) tips like “get plenty of sleep” or “don’t be stressed out,” to the terrible recommendation of BMI as a good indicator of health (it’s not. It’s a garbage measurement that was invented by a mathematician, not a doctor), this book is not helpful and pretty ableist. The author seems to blame autoimmune diseases on “being unhealthy/stressed” when the reality is that science doesn’t have a consensus on what causes autoimmune diseases. Telling people to “be an optimist” or “eat healthy” isn’t helpful. All in all, skip this one.

Excellent book full of research and Swedish wisdom. I was loving the book right up until the point where he utilized BMI and waist measurement as signs of health and touting intermittent fasting, neither of which are natural, helpful means of measuring or restoring health. So ED warning if you choose to read this book, skip the chapter on weight management and the rest of the book is golden.

I loved this! It's not a groundbreaking book but it definitely inspired me to improve my life, and I'm grateful for that.

I feel like the title is misleading, because the author only mentions Nordic countries a few times, but his advice and tips are more universal and I don't mind it. I already knew some of the things that he mentions but they gave me that extra motivation to go and start changing my life for the better right now. I also like that he backs up the content of this book with his medical knowledge and medical sources, so it's not merely and inspirational book. Simple, informative and encouraging. I really recommend it!

I found that there was an overuse of scare-tactics in these tips - practically every other sentence mentioned diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and death. As a diabetic reading these tips, I had to laugh at tip number nine - “Be an Optimist.” Hard to be optimistic when you examine how your diabetes causes high blood sugar, which in turn causes inflammation, which then causes death. The basic nature of the tips examined definitely left something to be desired.

Nothing new in this book but it was motivativating enough for me to get a grip on my eating habits and diet.
By far my favourite chapter was the 5th one, related to food. I liked how everything was laid out in that chapter and how easy was everything explained even though nothing was new information.
The last chapter I figure was only to fill the book and complete the 10 tips since it was very boring and I didn’t really find the need for it in the book, just general and clichée tips on how to meet people.
Overall it was an okay quick read but I don’t really see the link with the Nordic lifestyle.. it felt like a general healthy lifestyle book.

A book that gives you a quick review of what is good and bad for human health. Fine structure, where each new chapter explore a science field that affects human health e.g. food, exercise, social life.
Besides that there are good tables with e.g. what foods to eat if you want the healthy omega fatty acid.

Over the last 5 years or so I have been very interested in healthy lifestyle changes and nutrition. I've watched plenty of documentaries and read articles and blogs. I try to stay up to date with new research in these topics, which is probably why I didn't find a lot of this information to be particularly eye-opening. The book discusses the benefits of eating and drinking healthy foods and drinks, keeping your stress levels low, exercising, sleeping regular hours etc. A lot of these concepts are well known, even by those not very interested in reading about health.
I did, however, appreciate the way the book was structured and the low-key and succinct way in which the advice was passed on. Despite knowing 90% of the information beforehand, reading it again served as good motivation for me to keep to healthy choices, which is why I stuck with the book and enjoyed reading it.

Peh.
