This is, perhaps, the most purposeful book I've read this year. This book focuses on various aspects of prayer: why we don't pray, why we need to do it, situations when we need to pray, and how our prayer life can be effective. The section I found most helpful was how to develop the habit of prayer. Whether you are new to prayer or looking to improve your current prayer life, there is plenty to learn from this book.
E George has a distinct writing style. Lots of exclamation points. She can be tiring to read, with all her matter-of-fact tips about life's hardest areas (like prayer), but she's always right and her straightforward approach is encouraging. I'll definitely return to parts of this book. Plenty of superfluous content, but enough gems to make it a truly valuable read.
2.5 stars This was a bit disappointing. The first 40 pages were great, and then it just repeated itself over and over. There were many great scripture references, and prayer was approached from a biblical standpoint. However, it could have been 100 pages less and still gotten the point across.
Este libro lo leí en español, pero no lo encontré aquí en goodreads. Me gustó mucho sobretodo como poder llevar a la práctica todas esas enseñanzas acerca de la oración.
It was kinda redundant. The one thing I learned from this book that I didn't already know was to be in constant prayer in the true sense of the word- having a prayer always on my lips and at every moment of the day.
This one was purposefully being read a little bit at a time to give time for the prayer. What I found most helpful from this book was the concept of a prayer journal. It really did help me to focus my prayers.
Great practical and biblical tips on how to cultivate the discipline of daily prayer - I am a checklist person and George includes a checklist at the end of each chapter of teaching! Bought at conference at Northside Baptist where author spoke
Nothing like a quiet Sunday at home to finish a couple of books! I appreciated this book. Some simple reminders, some new thoughts. It was a little repetitive at points - but maybe we need that? :)
I have enjoyed reading Elizabeth George for many years, but found this book to be overly redundant with very little meat. Definitely not one of my favorites from her.
