GOING TO THE MAN’S WORLD… AGAIN
Wonder Woman: Year One is one of the two storyarcs in the Rebith title of Wonder Woman, where “The Lies” is told in the odd numbered issues of the title, and “Year One” is developed in the even numbered ones. And this FCBD special edition issue is the “starting point” for your favorite Amazon Princess in the Rebirth timeline by DC Comics.
You’re witness of both lives, separate for ambiance, of Princess Diana of Themyscira and Steve Rogers of United States of America, and their fateful first encounter at the beach of the Amazon island, that without a doubt will lead to Diana’s journey into the “Man’s World” to fight one of the longest war ever…
…the War of the Sexes for the equality between men and women.
The most popular superheroine is back with a new origin!
Didn't like this as much as Wonder Woman (2016-) #1 but it might be a promising start to the series. A little confusing with all the back and forth in the story.
This is the first DC comic I've ever decided to give a chance. The Free Comic Book Day issues are just meant to give you a taste, that being said that previous one I read was pretty disappointing, but I think that this one was of a very good quality.
This is the first part of Wonder Woman's new comic book origin. I think you'd especially appreciate this if you loved the Wonder Woman movie.
This issue might just convince me to pick up the full origin story. The art style and colouring were also great and were fit with the story.
The story was good. It started off so happy that I knew it wouldn't end that way! Everyone was having fun,guy got married, his wife had a kid,His bff was made the godfather of the child. After all this happened I knew something bad was going to happen when both men had to go back to war.(He put his ring in his shirt pocket and their faces at the moment was pure sadness sorta mixed with hope and worry)The plane crashed and everyone died(The guy who just got married died and I knew he was going too,I was hoping he wouldn't but he did) his friend survived though. I don't know if everyone is as dead as Wonder Woman and the others confirmed but it sure seemed as if everyone else died. It was so obvious that something bad was going to happen. The comic gave us so many joyful moments in the first few pages and then-like a slap in the face- crushed our hearts with such a sad outcome! I know it's a free comic with a few pages but those pages left me feeling a mix of sadness and disappointment. Wonder Woman seemed as if she wasn't Wonder Woman. I guess this was like the begining of Wonder Woman in her new universe (Rebirth) I'm assuming that's the reason. Half of the time I was pretty confused (I haven't read any Wonder Woman Comics and this was a first for me) So I figured it would go into more detail if this really is a Rebirth of Wonder Woman. Other than that I liked it. (xD So many thoughts for these few pages omg)

This was for me a first read of a FCBD (Freecomicbookday) and with Wonder Woman, extra special. This is year one for her as one of Earth's protectors. This a short comic just over 20 pages but packed with enough fun to upstage bigger graphic novels. The book shows the origin story for the Wonder woman. With war looming in the horizon, the amazons have their champion one willing to sacrifice everything for the greater good.
Greg Rucka spins a good yarn here, most of the information are already in the public domain and are a part of the WW folklore, but it feels good to read it all with smart art work.
I recommend this book for everyone who wants to know WW's origin.
I thought the art was absolutely stunning - especially in Diana's story - and I'm feeling YES WONDER WOMAN all the time right now, so I'm giving this four stars, even if I probably would have liked it less if I knew a little more about Wonder Woman than "she's an Amazon". It works very well as an introduction, and it sure makes me want to watch the movie (even more).
An excellent retelling of Wonder Woman's origin story. I understand the movie is based on this story (although I could be wrong). The story is told split screen fashion between Wonder Woman and Steve, from each beginning to their meeting. The art work is beautifully detailed and the coloring vibrant. I very much enjoyed reading this story ...
I really wish D.C. and Marvel would get their act together. It's one thing to have multiple story lines over different periods of time, but multiple stories lines at the same time with similar covers and the SAME title is annoying. The only way you can tell they're different is by staff and it isn't easy keeping up with the constantly changing names.
Rant over, on to the comic. The artwork is nice, the background on the Double-W is fuzzy, and there's not anything exciting going on here. With such a lackluster start, there's no interest in continuing.
Una gran aventura con buena diagramación y contenido, se sugiere terminar los capítulos y buscar formas económicas de llegar al cómic físico que nos gusta tanto a los coleccionistas
I gave it 3.5 stars. It was hard to understand at first. Because the two scenes were pictured at the same time. I thought it's about another world or the things happened in past are kind of dèja vu ing. But at the end the two became one and the mystery solved. I like the art style. And also the way the story presented. Even though it was complicated at the beginning, it was a good way to present it. I think this is a good start. It makes me curious, and I want to read the rest of the story. I recommend this to all the comic and graphic novel readers.
I like Rucka's writing, I like Wonder Woman, I like the way they jumped back in forth showing the parallel in Steve and Diana's lives. I'm not sure if I need a origin story retelling though. This issue is just Wonder Woman issue #2 re-packaged for free comic book day, but it did it's job and got me wanting to read the series. Especially when I noticed they are doing some kind of even and odds issue story back and forth? What the heck? Haha.
Vol. 1, The Lies - 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, Rebirth Vol. 2, Year One -2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14
I really enjoyed Greg Rucka's original Wonder Woman run and his experience with her character really shines through in this issue. I'm assuming this issue was the high-level overview of Wonder Woman's new origin in Rebirth. I haven't read any of Rebirth, so I can't comment in-depth on that. As for this issue, it's the standard Wonder Woman origin I feel like I've read a thousand times at this point. It was well done, just offered nothing for me.
An appealing prequel to the upcoming movie, this comic gives us a duel narrative of Diana on the island of Themyscira and Steve Trevor in military training. Although both arcs show them with good friends, both seem dissatisfied and yearning for more. My only small criticism is that if this was a prequel to the movie, I was surprised the characters weren’t drawn more similar to the actors that will be portraying them on the screen.
I really enjoyed this. I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE WONDER WOMAN MOVIE. DC, where's the marketing? I'm a straight, white male who has been waiting for this since I was a kid. Seriously, my most anticipated movie of 2017!
This was an enjoyable issue that was probably the best one that I got from Free Comic Book Day. I appreciated the parallel structure in this story, as well as a setting that makes a lot of sense. It hinted at further stories, but also told a complete prelude story, which I appreciated.
This was a really good start to the story, with great graphics. It's different from the film, but in a good way. It gave a little more background, made a little more sense, and added a bit more depth to Steve's part of the story.
