Theresa Kent is a wife, mom, and hardworking nurse living in rural Colorado. Life is good until her increasingly despondent, unemployed husband suddenly snaps—his vicious attack leaves Theresa fighting for her life as she tries to escape the insane version of the man she loves.
Ryan Tucker appears to have it all, except he’s been merely existing, not living, for the the last three years. His emotions get a much needed jump start when he rescues Theresa from the torment her life has become in just a matter of days. Ryan feels an instant and fierce desire to protect this stranger that fell into his life.
Hanging over their heads is the knowledge that Theresa’s husband is still out there, hunting for her.
Can two broken souls be repaired, or will the demons of the past and present come between the repressed love that grows between them?
Wowee! So H.L. Anderson is a completely new to me author but the blurb intrigued and I jumped at the opportunity to read this story. I found myself sucked in and unable to put the story down until exhaustion overtook me and I had no other choice. The opening is so very powerful, horrifyingly so, and I felt a very physical reaction to what Theresa, our main character, is experiencing. When Ryan Tucker enters her orbit, it's almost too late.
Over the course of the story, we learn about how Theresa's life had changed in the proceeding year. Terrified and heartbroken, she's in a very precarious position and lucky enough to have met a compassionate man. My heart was racing in anticipation as she begins to heal both physically and emotionally, and for Ryan to break through to her.
This story is a romantic suspense with a heavy dose on getting a second chance. The story is complicated by Ryan's job as an actor as the attention he receives could be detrimental to Theresa's safety. He takes his newest role, as Theresa's protector, very seriously, and that brings on a whole new set of problems. With this it becomes a slow burn romance read as well, and one that left we feeling hopeful and yet anxious. I love how all these elements are brought together through the connection that Theresa and Ryan form. They see something unique in each other and H.L. Anderson does a wonderful job with their dialogue and the plot.
*I was gifted a copy of this book in excahnge for an honest review*
***I voluntarily reviewed this book for Katsindiebookblog, and I gained no monetary incentives nor was I specifically requested to review the book.*** Saved is a very intense, suspenseful read. You are thrown immediately in the story with Theresa being abused by her husband. I know I found myself wanting to reach through my Kindle to beat him myself. When she thinks she can finally escape, she’s shoved back away quickly. Whether it was a coincidence or God Send, she is rescued by Ryan. Sometimes, best laid out plans don’t work when you run out of gas! Ryan is a great actor with plenty of money. He has life at his fingertips, if he only asks. However, life doesn’t always seem to be on the outside. Ryan may have it all, monetarily, but what about where the heart is concerned? Ryan goes all out when it comes to saving Theresa, but he seems to think that it’s her that is saving him, instead of the opposite. Two broken souls are united. Can they truly heal each other? What about Theresa’s past coming to haunt her, can she escape and start fresh? This is a really great read that will be hard to put down. It is very well written, to where you can’t help but to feel like you are there. A really great read if you are into suspense and possible HEA!
The perfect blend of thriller and romance, this story gets deep into the character struggles, but not to the exclusion of the crazy killer on the loose. Anderson's best book to date, it hits hard and hold you in an iron grip to the very end.
In Saved, two strangers find each other in an unexpected, almost miraculou way. Theresa Kent is a wife, mother and hardworking nurse living in rural Colorado. Her life is pretty good, until her husband suddenly snaps and attacks her horribly. Theresa struggles to escape from the man she once loved who seemingly has turned into a monster.
Meanwhile, Ryan Tucker enters the picture as Theresa’s rescuer. He’s a man who at first glance seems to have it all… except real, genuine emotions. He hasn’t really felt anything for the last three years. That is, until he meets Theresa and decides that he has to protect this stranger, at all costs. With Theresa’s husband still out there, hunting for her, Theresa and Ryan aren’t out of the woods yet… And if a mad man hunting them isn’t bad enough, repressing the growing feelings between them is even worse.
I liked the premise of the story, about a second love, about two broken souls finding each other. More than carried by plot, this book is primarily carried by the characters. Both Theresa and Ryan are intriguing characters with engaging personalities. They have a past, they have quirks, things that make them unique and stand out. The chemistry between them is undeniable, and the author does a good job creating additional tension that way.
Fans of romantic suspense novels will no doubt love this book.
I won’t lie to you… Thrillers aren’t usually my thing because it’s too close to the Horror genre for me. With that being said, I couldn’t put this book down. This was great storytelling, even when Theresa frustrated you! Let me back up… Theresa is a nurse who is married to a man who is down on his luck and snaps. He brutally attacks her and she’s saved by Ryan, a successful movie star who is barely existing.
Over some time, they do get to know each other, and they are attracted to each other. Ryan finally starts to live again, and Theresa is moving on with her life. The only problem, Theresa’s husband is still out there. Can the two of them finally get a chance to live their best lives? Ryan was a put in a few unfortunate situations that were beyond his control, and Theresa made decisions based on those situations (without having the full information). Her decisions did make sense but as the reader, you are frustrated because you know the full situation. One of the things I loved about this story was usually the female lead would make horrendous decisions and try to justify them. With Saved, Theresa’s decision made sense.
This was a great story from start to finish. I’m happy I was approved for this story, so thank you Curiosity Quills Press!
I think I have a new favorite author! H. L. Anderson an incredible writer. This story is both heartbreaking and beautiful at the same time. I quickly fell in love with Theresa and Ryan in this story and while I wanted to know the rest of the story immediately I also absolutely didn’t want it to end. The story is so well written that I felt like I was in the middle of everything as it was happening and I gained a new insight into the horrors that Theresa suffered. I can’t wait to find more wonderfully woven stories by H. L. Anderson (aka Holli Anderson) with her detailed and engrossing characters that draw me in completely from the earliest pages of her books.
She gets brutally raped, her son is being murdered In front of her eyes, She’s been mutilated, beaten to a pulp, and shoved into a trunk by her husband of 10 years that flipped on her all of a sudden. She falls in love with her saviour, who happens to be a movie star, within two weeks of the incident while being on the run. Her sexual assault has been described twice in detail including her genitalia medical condition in hospital. Yet no intimate scenes with a hero.
Wow, what a story, we enjoyed this book very much! So much heartache and pain, Theresa shows she has courage, even though she is struggling emotionally. Ryan found a reason to open his heart again after his tragic loss. Thank you for a clean and engaging story, Danny and Debbie Scott.
Wow! Hold on to your hats, folks! Anderson does an amazing job of grabbing your emotions from the first page and having her way with them until the final paragraph! The intensity of her opening chapters are not for the faint of heart, but if you can pull up your big girl pants and plow through, you won't regret it!
The book was slow but enjoyable. The romance between Ryan and Tess, moved slow. That didn’t bother me at all because I throughout enjoy the story. I really wanted to see Shannon punishment but that didn’t really happen. I’m okay with how the book ended. It’s a slow read but enjoyable.
An enjoyable story. Perfect if you are looking for something emotional to read. The story grips you with the depth of the characters and their compassion and tenacity.
First, let me say that if you are the victim of domestic abuse and continue to have issues dealing with it, I would definitely not recommend this book for you. It has a couple of sections that are very graphic and could be potential triggers.
With that said, WOW, what a book!!! It was intense. It was painful. It was horrifying. It was sweet. It was beautiful. So how do you go from horrifying to beautiful? You are saved from a monster by a beautiful soul meant to be yours. I loved Ryan like none other. He rescued a stranger and showered her with his compassion throughout the entire book. He was understanding, kind, strong, loving, and perfect. I wish all abuse victims were so fortunate!
I know some people who read the book may say all Theresa did was cry, but if you will remember her trauma and all she has been though, then you will understand that the tears are realistic. No one that has gone through what she did would bounce back all bubbly as if she were fine in a few weeks or even months. She wasn't fine and the author allowed us to see and experience her brokenness as well as the moments of sunshine she would have.
The one complaint I have is that the author never really addresses what caused her husband to turn into the monster he became after years of being such a loving, devoted husband and father. I know he lost his job 2 years earlier but why suddenly in 1 day did he go so far over the edge? Did he begin drinking or doing drugs? This didn't take away from the book, it just would have appeased my overly curious mind.
Congratulations to Ms. Anderson on an excellent book. This is the first one that I have read by this author but I am on my way to check out others that she has written.
