Jean Grey issue 1 - It's going to be about the Phoenix.
Me - Not too interested in that.

Issue 2 - Jean meets Hope Summers!
Me - OK I'M IN!

Pretty decent storyline, plus awesome characters, yo.

But that dialogue tho, check out this gem.

Hope: “Much appreciated . Bit off a little more than I could chew here. Misread the sitch. Firefight went pear-shaped and I somehow let that poindexter get the drop on me.”

UGGGH! You’re forcing it, bro.

Going into this blind, and not having the first issue either seems to have been a bad move. I find it hard to follow the storyline while also trying to figure out who's who (especially the referenced old/previous jean). I have only watched most of the x-men movies which I don't remember mentioning most of the characters involved here.

Although Beast tries to assure Jean that the Phoenix is no where near in sight, but Jean believes otherwise and decides her best course in finding the Phoenix is to use Cerebro. As she finds herself in communication with Colossus and the others, she locates Hope, who is undoubtly in trouble. Jean heads out to her rescue and so do the others.

I am a bit disappointed in Jean in this one. She acts more like a brat than a leader. I understand her concerns when it comes to the Phoenix entity. After all, her older self was consumed by the entity and has died multiple times. Still instead of focusing on the inevitable, she should focus on becoming stronger. Perhaps if she does become a bit more stronger her fight against the Phoenix may just work in her favor.

This is just the second issue and I am not saying it is bad. The character just has her moments. I am looking forward to seeing how this plays out and seeing the showdown between Jean and the Phoenix.

Convinced that she wasn’t seeing things, Jean visits Beast to find out if she really is losing the plot. Turns out she isn’t, as Cerebro connects her with previous hosts of the Phoenix. As a newcomer to the X-Men (comic) universe, basing my knowledge of The Phoenix on the animated series and the films, I’m not quite sure how that works…

We’re two comics in, and the story bops along nicely, even if we're introduced to some characters that I’ve no idea who they are.

I just hope #3 in the series won’t drop me in it as much as this one did.

No es una maravilla pero es entretenido. De momento sigo. Hace mucho que no leo a los mutantes y siempre he tenido una debilidad con ellos.

Ok, two titles are keeping Marvel in my good books. Despite my complaints about "oh look, more Phoenix" last issue, this is actually pretty damn good.
