Alexus’ number one struggle was her weight. She knows it, fights with its reality and has come to terms with her lot in life. Devin, on the other hand, does not accept her reality. The man even challenges her thinking to the point where she kicks him out of her house. Who did he think he was dealing with? This is a short, standalone, IR story with a BBW as the main character. Next story - In Her Shoes
Xyla Turner was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. She has always been a writer, even as a teenager, she wrote short stories and essays that won awards and nation-wide competitions. Xyla is an avid reader of romance novels and a sucker for sassy females and dominant males. She is a lifelong learner, High School Vice-Principal and a pretty good Auntie. Outside of reading, Xyla likes to spend time with her family and friends, experiment with dangerous adventures and travel. She writes different genres, but her favorite is romance.
Xyla Turner is an awful tease. And I'm almost mad at her for writing about such a wonderful topic but keeping the story frustratingly short. Yes, I knew it was a short story going in, so the author isn't really to blame. The topic of obesity and the physical, as well as the psychological impact on people who struggle with their weight, is quite serious. Alexus, the heroine, is such a person. Not only is she overweight, she's spent most of her life feeling inadequate, unattractive, and undesirable. Her low self-esteem and weight impact every aspect of her life--including her relationships. What I like that Turner did in this short story was to introduce therapy as an important step in Alexus' improving her mental health. It was the one weight loss "strategy" she hadn't tried.
This is a series, so Turner will explore therapy in more depth in the succeeding books. We'll get to learn more about the women in Alexus' therapy group and their personal journey of empowerment and mental health.
I thought I was reading my diary! It may be fiction but it speaks truth. A great book. It was short but it didn't waste time getting straight to the point . Can't wait for the next book in the series. Hope to see more of Devin and Alexus!
This was a quick easy read book about the mental and physical angst women of ample size have to deal with in their lives. Xyla could have taken this story a little deeper, but I understand why she did it. Being a woman of ample size myself, she accurately showed the mental anguish obese women go through. The Eurocentric ideal of beauty leave ample sized women out in the cold. From shoe size, choice of fashion, chairs and seats to sit it, especially where public transportation is concerned, can be very embarrassing and heart breaking. Let's not talk about love life. A man has to be very self assured of himself to break down the walls of a woman with ample curves. Everyone wants love and need love. Thanks for bringing this topic to light Xyla.
This was a quick, short sweet read. I loved that the author described what it can be like to being a big woman, especially when you start glowing due to the heat your body is giving off, that made me laugh because its true. I enjoyed it, definitely worthy a read.
Wow...just wow...This short story was SO RELATABLE. I could totally understand how Alexus felt struggling with her weight issues. This was too close to home for me. When you're over weight you do find yourself having these internal conversations with yourself. It is a daily struggle that battle with loving yourself and food. I deal with it...and I press on. I just wish there was a Devin in my life...who could just see me and not the weight. I didn't see Devin as a savior...I saw him as a grown as man who was unapologetic about what he found attractive in a woman. It was refreshing. Ms. Turner thank you for this story....thank you for not letting him be a billionaire alpha male....just a successful man who knew what he liked. And for making the female not run from her demons...but battle them through support and encouragement. Excellent job!
This story was amazing! I feel as though Xyla Turner can do no wrong when it comes to her books. Alexus is very self conscious about her weight and feels the world and everyone around her wants to use her or just talk about her size.
Devin is very interested in Alexus and won't allow nothing like her weight be a problem to showing her how much he really cares about her.
Alexus soon finds support for her weight with a therapy group also having Devin along side to help her. This story felt so real for me simply because I myself am a bbw and proud of it. The way the author used this theme and have it be so connected to real life issues was amazing to me.
I also loved how Alexus didn't rely so much on Devin to want to change she changed because she wanted to. This was so beautiful, real and honest and I believe so many women could relate to this story. I have a little bit of Alexus in me which from reading this story she is strong, determined and very sexy and didn't allow her weight to stop her from living the life she wanted or dating the man who really cared for her.
I love Xyla Turner's writing she writes in such a real way that readers will be able to understand and relate to. I can not wait for the next installment to this series! I can already tell this series is gonna be like candy to me sweet and honest and I can't wait to devour them all.
My Rating: 5 sexy bbw stars who run the world!! LOL
Enjoyed the story and the realism. The day to day challenges of being overweight were shared (I.e., shopping, walking stares, sex, hygiene, wider shoe widths). Also, the dating and finding love challenges were also highlighted. Important to note that Devin was attracted to Alexus NOT DESPITE OF...but including her extra weight. He liked how hard she worked, how she treated people AND how she looked. Love her movement towards health and the support from the group. Thanks to the author for adding Heart Alliance---a real support group---to the book. Mental health is important!
Thank you for Alexus story. I could relate to her issues with being overweight...it's a constant battle. Alexus had tried all types of weight loss gimmicks. She got disgusted with herself. Devin comes into her life and he sees more than the weight. He's totally attracted to the entire package. He doesn't realize that she's so insecure. He doesn't give up on what he wants. He is exactly what Alexus wants, needs and deserves in her life. I love this story!
Thank you. This book is a reminder of life struggles many face that does not have to be done alone.
Love the way the weight issue was presented. It is a reminder that in order to make changes one must look within embrace the issues and decide to correct them for there peace of mind and health. Loving oneself faults and all is how one heals on the inside which helps change the way one views life and themselves. Only then can you begin to embrace and work on life changes
Too short. The heroine was over weight, a size 22, and has self-esteem issues. She is asked out on a date by a very hot professor that also works in her department at her university. She is an executive administrator. You guessed it, self doubt and low self-esteem rear their ugly heads! as does an eating disorder.
This is my first book by Xyla Turner but it will not be my last. I fell in love with this story not only for the BBW, Alexus but also for her willingness to be loved by Devin. She gave him a chance at her heart despite her issues. Great beginning to a series that I will be checking back into.
While the author tells you up front this is a short story, I was surprised at how short! The story concept is great but I needed more details. I needed just more of everything. Still going to read the whole series.
This Wes a good short story. The storyline was very believeable. This was a true issue that women deal with. Lived the way Ms Turner handled it and the end was awesome. Wanted more but understood it was a short story! Yes I recommend it. It is worth the read.
