Greg Rucka, is an American comic book writer and novelist, known for his work on such comics as Action Comics, Batwoman: Detective Comics, and the miniseries Superman: World of New Krypton for DC Comics, and for novels such as his Queen & Country series.
After differing in the last issue majorly, this finale continued the trend it does its own thing while Netflix movie did its own thing but both are great. I am going to rewatch the movie any of the coming days just to appreciate it again.
I have always loved comics, and I hope that I will always love them. Even though I grew up reading local Indian comics like Raj Comics or Diamond Comics or even Manoj Comics, now's the time to catch up on the international and classic comics and Graphic novels. I am on my quest to read as many comics as I can. I Love comics to bit, may comics never leave my side. I loved reading this and love reading more, you should also read what you love and then just Keep on Reading.
(Guess who just decided to read all current issues of The Old Guard in one sitting? Oh yes, it's me)
I loved this! It's such a fantastic and satisfying finale. Action-packed and fast-paced. So different from the movie though! And I have to say, I feel like I love the movie's finale more.
Had to read the source material after watching the Netflix series. Enjoyed the differences and learning more about the characters. There’s enough that the film seems like a completely different story, which is neat! The graphic novels had a great arc and I especially enjoyed the fast-paced story and the back-and-forth dialogue. Great art, as well.
Andy and Nile make the best duo, right after Joe and Nicky. Although this is the last issue of this story, it truly ends at a satisfying place while also leaving the door wide open for an almost endless supply of cool adventures and soul searching dialogue (whatever that means)
Basically: this series of one of the best comic out there.
(this is for my review of issues #1-5 because they were pretty short and they all kinda blurred together so I don't have specific reviews for each one individually)
like a lot of people, I read the comics after watching the movie on netflix. I enjoyed the film, but I had some issues with it. I read the comics because I was hoping they would have done some things better. but the movie was actually a fairly accurate adaptation and a lot of the problems I had with the movie I had with the comics as well. if anything, I think the movie is easier to follow along and does a good job with expanding on things that comics don't get to. my biggest problem was with the characters and the found family aspect. in both the comics and the movie, a lot of the characters aren't well defined in my opinion, specifically joe and nicky in both the movie and the comics, and nile in the comics.
the comics don't have a lot of time to develop the characters and relationships, so they all overall feel very flat and forgettable. though I will admit comics are a very new medium to me, and I'm used to novels and tv shows that get a lot of time to develop characters, and I understand comics are a lot more limited with that kinda time.
I've been reading a lot of reviews for the comics, and the biggest complaint I see is about the art style. a lot of people really hate the way the faces are drawn, and I admit I'm not a huge fan of the faces either, and they took me a while to get used to. but I think there's actually some rly cool art in here. I rly like the way the artist uses a heavy amount of black in the darker panels. they look almost abstract, and rly eye-catching.
I'm torn between 2.5 stars and 3 stars. I found the overall story and characters to be underwhelming and forgettable, and there were elements that were very underused. I actually prefer the movie a little bit because nile had more characterization and some subplots in the comic weren't written very well in my opinion. but I did enjoy it: it was a fun change from what I normally read and I'm definitely going to be looking into the next miniseries. there wasn't too much I rly liked about these comics, but giving it less than 3 stars doesn't seem right to me. idk what else to say. objectively I wasn't a huge fan, but it was fun and quick and I'm glad I read it.

Loved the ending. Really looking forward to the Netflix series. A good look into Immortality..of sorts! Great cast of characters and well written. Onward to the sequel. The last issue of the 2nd series comes out in July. Agggh!
interesting what was changed from the comics to the movie and....................i like it. movie got some more juicy tension and angst i think. still, fun to read the comics, and i'll read the others
me gustó bastante. es muy parecido a la película también, en lo único que cambia mucho es en que Andy todavía no puede morir. veremos qué pasa en los siguientes ayyy
Some slight deviations from the film, but still in the same vein for the film lovers. This ends more or less where the film left off. Very excited to start the next volume.
