Set in 1542, in Scotland, this tale has a bit of fantasy in it, but is otherwise straightforward. Chased by an angry mob of townspeople, Alisoune Hay stumbles through deep snow to escape, ending up in Lachlan Mar's cottage. Her crime? Talking about Copernicus and his theory that the earth moves around the sun. She finds shelter with Lachlan and his dog, Campbell, even though he wants no sunshine in his life. He lost a leg and all four of his brothers in battle, for which he blames himself.
There is a rapid attraction between the two, which leads to some sexual content. It isn't lurid. The cover is nice, but it's missing an important element: her spectacles, which play an important part in the story. At the very end, when Lachlan was rescuing Alisoune, the story stopped dead, followed by the Epilogue. It appeared that the most exciting part, the resolution of her problem, had been left out of the KU edition.
The author makes it a point to say that it isn't AI created. It has none of the earmarks of error-ridden AI abominations. A very enjoyable quick read.
