Another good read. The way her talent for talking to ghosts is done well and lends itself to the plot. The actual reveal did take me by surprise but I did, at one stage, wonder if the ghost of the victim would appear. The softly, softly approach to the budding romance is done with skill and feeling. The tavern needs a cash injection and it looks as if it might get one when the caterer hired for the debutant ball pulls out. However when the organiser is found, after falling from the roof, all that is cancelled. But with the increasing business at the tavern everyone is feeling worn out and tired. That's why taking on a high school student seems like a good idea on the work front if not financially. With Ben looked on as a suspect, she starts looking at other motives. From the people fired/run ragged by the organiser to the bankruptcy facing husband. Plus her talent seems to be increasing. Now she's not only hearing ghost but she's also started getting glimpses of them. Will they find the culprit? Will the tavern start getting into the black? Will she and Ben start acting on the attraction they feel for each other?
Another fun installment of the Tell-Tale Tavern mystery series! I really enjoy reading about Edie and all of the other characters (alive, dead and there's even a really cool bird)! Fans of Edgar Allan Poe are bound to be drawn to this engaging series as well as fans of cute cozies!
I read the first book of the series Gin and Ghosts and was not too thrilled by it. I was encouraged by the author to give the 2nd book Murder and Mimosas a try. I have to say the 2nd book is much better than the 1st book. Edie is much more tolerable. In fact I got to know her a little better in the 2nd book. We get to know more of her background, along with the other characters like Tia which was not explained in the 1st book. Same characters in the previous book, plus we get introduced to some new ones. Edie's witty nature was in fact witty this time around and didn’t feel so rough. I was able to read the book and not hate the main character. In fact, Edie was quite acceptable. I am glad I read the 2nd book. Her relationship with her boss Ben is delightful. And I do hope the relationship grows into something more. I think Edie would be much happier and be more laid back once she starts getting some, you know what I mean? Her pet raven Poe is in this book but not too much, her ghostly gift seems to be evolving. A couple of twists but still predictable to me, I knew right off the bat who the killer was. There are still a lot of typos but not so bad I could not follow the story. **There is an error in chapter 2 where character A was already in the tavern giggling with character B, but later on in the same chapter, Character A walks into the tavern looking rather hurried....It was so confusing to me, didn't know if the names got mixed up during the editing? **
Pros Edie’s character is more acceptable Author’s writing so much better. There is an enjoyable storyline here, a beginning, middle and an end. A clean, easy, light-hearted read. A true cozy mystery.
Cons Only the typos – but not like the first book, you can still follow along pretty well with the story.
I give the book 4 stars. This is a good cozy mystery. I received an advanced copy to read and this is my honest review.
Murder & Mimosas is Book #2 in the Tell-Tale Tavern Mysteries (book 3 if you count the prequel The Tell-Tale Treasure).
Edie Allen is the barmaid/manager of the Tell-Tale Tavern. She is related to Edgar Allen Poe and someone like her granddaddy's great-granddaddy opened the tavern in his name. Her family had owned the tavern for over 100 years, but no more. The cute new owner Benjamin 'Ben' Sullivan is clueless of the work involved in the Tell-Tale and definitely needs Edie's help! She hopes in the future it'll be hers again!
Edie can talk to her friend/pet raven, Poe; she can talk to ghosts; but what is going on with her abilities??? She is having paranormal overload and about to totally lose it!
Ben has already found one dead body (technically it was Edie that found the body), but when he discovers another, it looks more than suspicious! The tavern was overrun with customers when he took over the tavern; now it's summer and the locals, tourists and gossip seekers are flooding to the tavern!
Can the tavern keep up with all the traffic??? Will Ben be going to jail and Edie get the tavern??? Will Edie get a break from the heat, paranormal activity, or a break in the murder case???
Come see Edie and her best friend officer Jessica Cho solve the murder !
This is a cozy paranormal mystery for 13+, with easy reading, murder, paranormal activity and a hint of romance!
Can't wait to see what the ladies will get into in Capers Cove in Book #3 Sangria & Spirits !
I definitely liked this book better than the first two. You have murder, ghosts, a raven and mayhem. All I can say for a pretty quiet island, except for the tourist, there seems to be a lot of murder. Teehee!!! Between trying to keep the Tell-Tale running and solving crimes Edie is back. She was not as whiny and rude as she was in Gin & Ghosts, Ben and Edie seem to have found a way to work together. Megan Marple wrote a simple, fun and engrossing murder mystery. She kept me guessing as to who did it. That is saying something since I can usually pick the murderer out pretty early in the story. There is no over the top violence and no sex, if this is what you are looking for this is not for you. If you are looking for fun, humor and a who done it, then in my opinion it is worth reading. In my opinion Megan Marple did not disappoint me. I received an ARC edition for my honest and voluntary review.
Edie is a delightful, quirky, and wonderfully self-confident lead. Getting better acquainted with her and her possibly burgeoning power is a real treat! The author did a fine job of seamlessly inserting answers to the questions of what happened to Edie's grandfather and how the tavern was lost to the family. The mystery was uninspired and I knew the killer before there was even a victim, and the proofreading is seriously lacking (four head, really?!). The core characters are so very likeable and the depiction of the town is so engaging that it keeps the reader coming back for more of the Tell-Tale Tavern!
Edie Allen is back, and I'm so glad she is! This is a great book that kept me engrossed until the end. I love the characters and the way they interact with each other. Megan Marple is a fantastic author, and I'm looking forward to more books in this series.
I think between chapter 15 and 22 you sorta got confused about your story direction. The fog might have been the murdered victim trying to show up or Edie has more "powers" than she realizes.
Ha! Began in November, still trying in December... Slow pacing led me to pick up other books while trying to read this. It's a decent story, quite well written, but (obviously) it didn't grab me. Gave up at Ch 15.
An enjoyable read but in need of an editor. Some grammatical errors, a couple of confusing scenarios and some superfluous activity. Mind you, this might be setting something up for a later book.
J.L.Collins knows how to create fine caracters and a good cozey murder mystery with the sappy on the side as well as a little paranormal mixed in.She draws you in with one young woman struggling to keep the bar her family once owned now under new ownership from going under then adds a murder then finally letting you in on a not so little secret this young woman communicates scycicly with a crow and can hear gohsts. All coming together to make a dandy good cozey murder mystery. I enjoyed reading "Murder and Mimosas "so much I couldn't put this book down until I'd finished it. Now I really would like you to pick up your copy today so you yourself can enjoy it.☺😮🤔🙄 Kat 😏
Edie is running herself ragged to save her tavern, well it really isn't hers anymore. Ben owns the place but it was in Edie's family for years. It might be tourist season but they are still not running in the black. When Ben gets an opportunity to cater the big event of the season, it looks like things might turn around. Then Ben finds the lady in charge of the event dead. Edie has to figure out who did this before the tavern goes under for the third time. This book has some great characters and the story keeps moving along. I enjoyed this thoroughly and look forward to reading more in the series.
ARC review for honest review. with the death of Daphne . Edie then goes into her investigation mode to see if she can figure out who's the killer and she's getting to know Ben more love these books.
All Edie wants is her family tavern back. After Ben finds the body of Daphne, Edie does all she can to c l ear Ben's name and get him off the suspect list. More ghosts pop up and between running ragged working at the tavern and trying to figure out what the new ghosts are trying to tell her, Edie is wearing down. Didn't see the twist coming at the end. I voluntarily received an an advanced copy copy of this book book for a honest review
