When Things Go Left
TIERRA … TWON … HYPE … SHANEECE … QUAID … FRIENDS, ENEMIES, OR BOTH? Tierra and Twon are the perfect high school couple, together two years with a rock solid relationship built on friendship and love. Twon wants to take it to the next level, but Tierra is struggling with her desire to please him and her need to stay true to a commitment she’s made to herself. In the middle of this walks Shaneece, the new girl from Connecticut who knows an opportunity when she sees one. She’s ready to take care of Twon’s needs despite her friendship with Tierra, but a delicious bad boy named Hype is hooking her attention too. He’s a player, but he’s all heart — and he’s been like brothers with Twon since childhood. The goody good in the group, Quaid, seems to have it all together on the surface, but he’s had his eyes on Tierra for a long time, though he can’t admit it to himself or anyone else. He spots an opening in the turmoil that works to his advantage, until it doesn’t. Friends become enemies, enemies become friends, and everyone’s belief in what’s real is tested more than they ever thought possible.

So this book was interesting. I think of it as a young Adult Novel, it was easy to follow and a breeze to read. The storyline was good, however, I feel as though it could have used a little more descriptions, like scene settings and more background/development on the characters. The asterisks for curse words were a little distracting as well. Other than that I truely enjoyed it and look forward to this Author’s next work.

When Things go Left, and they certainly did for the group of young people in this book. Twon, Hype, Quaid, Charles, Tiera, and Shanecee. Each of these characters was something, each came with their own drama, and bullshit.
Twon right off the bat was my favorite. There was something about this kid; that you knew life was not through putting him down yet. No matter what he did, that boy could not catch a break. Not from his ignorant momma, a girlfriend who wouldn’t talk, or the stalker watching from a distance. Yes, Shanecee was a stalker, that girl plotted and planned some sh.t. What she did to Twon and Hype was not only disrespectful, but it showed that the girl didn’t love herself one bit.
Twon worked, paid household bills, car note, and car insurance. I loved the fact that he didn’t choose to get paid by the streets. That he actually preferred to grind the right way to get his money and he was doing it, against all the odds. Yes, he is my favorite…as G-ma said or my interpretation. ‘Sometimes fast isn’t always good!’ Now that’s a lesson that Hype had to learn the hard way. Hype is conflicted; the heart is good, but the times and surroundings say do wrong, and at times he does very poorly. There is no easy answer for him (Hype). He is at his crossroads, now has to determine which way to go!
The ending of the book was not a surprise to me. I felt it coming and was wondering when. I have to assume that part two is coming and I hope that I get a surprise in it. This was a good read and my first time reading a book by this author. I would read another book by this author as long as it’s written this way. The storyline was active and got straight to the point. I did get tired of the N-word in the book! But it didn’t get in the way of me reading or following the story.

Normally it takes me a week to read a full novel. But this book was an easy read. I was given a free copy by the author and asked to leave an honest review. These group of friends were a trip. This made a great young adult story. However it didn’t draw me in immediately. Being an educator and having teaching experience from pre k-12th grade, I had a hard time with five year olds being so vocal and articulate. That threw me off a little but I continued. As I got further along into the story I enjoyed seeing the progression of their lives. I would’ve liked to have seen more descriptive wording and not have the curse words with the asterisks used. I felt it was a lot of telling but not showing in the story. All in all it was a fun read and I think the author did a good job with the storyline.

When Things Go Left is an upbeat coming of age story about four best friends, Twon, Hype, Charles and Quaid. They deal with the normal things that teenagers deal with, falling in love, family drama and trying to survive and stay alive.
I was hooked from the beginning when Twon was introduced as a young child. The trials that he went through kept me reading to see what his outcome would be. His story definitely proves that you can't help what family you're born into but you can definitely choose your family.
As time goes on, these thick as thieves best friends bond is tested when a few of them have their eyes set on the same girl.
The ending was a shocker, and I am hoping for part two soon so that I can find out what happens.
The story was a well thought out story and very well written, I'm glad I took a chance on reading a new to me author.

I was pulled in from page one!
I was pulled in from page one- where we first meet Twon as a child. His story reminded me of many young men I have met over the years- men who are raised in homes with mothers who could not care less if they lived or died. Throughout When Things Go Left we see the characters grow up and learn what it means to stay loyal to your relationships and friendships- no matter what.
The last few pages of the book made me wonder- what will happen with Twon? And what will Shaneece do?

Good book. I enjoyed this story about Tierra, Twon, Hype, Quaid, Charles, and Shaneece. Tierra and Twon are a high school couple who have been together for almost 2 years. Twon is ready to have sex, but Tierra is not ready due to her trying to be saved. Charles is so carefree he is not worried about school; he just wants to make money.
Hype is a good young man, but he enjoys sleeping around with different girls and is known as a player. Hype and Twon are like brothers they have been friends since kindergarten.
Quaid, Charles, and Hype are cousins, and they are so different. Quaid is laid back and he enjoys spending time at church unlike his cousins. Quaid is a smart young man who keeps to himself most of the time. Shaneece a young lady who moved into the area. Shaneece has already fell head over hills in love with Twon. Shaneece becomes Tierra’s friend knowing that she dates Twon. There are things that go wrong, will they be able to stay friends or become enemies? Read to see!!

Omg this book was so fire. It started off really good. I love the friendship with the guys. Everyone was cool having fun enjoying life until a girl got involved. One thing about teenagers they don’t understand the difference between friendship and lust. I love this book I love how this book was something that would definitely happen in real life. Friends are enemies and emotions gets the best of everyone.
The ending blew me away very unexpected.
Now to book two see what the gang is up too.

loving this story
Really good storyline, my heart went out to Twon. He had so many problems but he tried to make the best of them. I’m glad author mentioned and elaborated through Hype talking to Tierra about what Black parents name their children, it’s a true fact what he said because a survey was conducted on this before and some company didn’t hire people with Black sounding names.

Adolescence
Is the time in life when we do the foolishness these kids were doing. The way the author delved into their home life and built up the friendships was great. It was also needed to understand the choices being made. It left me wanting to know what happens next. Bring on part two

This was an easy read, so smooth and uplifting, a book I would recommend to be read a million times. Tanisha Stewart is indeed a glorious writer, she has a way with language, language so honest; that it would keep you glued completely and it will leave you with need of wanting to read more.

Very captivating
I stumbled upon this title after a suggestion from Kindle unlimited. Initially, I'd only intended to read the preview.
However, I was hooked after a few chapters. The characters were relatable and the story flowed very well.
I'm excited to read the second book in this series and other titles from the author.

Too much religion
I didn't realize this was a religious book so I won't read the entire series. Its a little far fetched in my opinion. High school kids worrying by about going to church and being saved so they won't go to hell is unrealistic. Just the whole saved thing bothers me. But the last place I want to hear about it is in a book with teens.

Great story
I really loved this story the characters were easy to relate to. Twon, Hype, Quaid, Tierra Charles shaneece all have issue's. This story was about friendship and betrayal rolled into one.

A definite pageturner
I could not put this book down. I kept picking it up and reading it every chance that I got. It is very well written and kept me on the edge of my seat. I hate that it ended like it did but I love the storyline

Twon and Shaneece parents are TOTAL Assholes! That is just another form of abuse. At least Twon didn’t turn out to be bad because of it. Shaneece is another story. I knew her pain was gonna cause her to wreak havoc.

I started reading this book last year and couldn't get passed the first chapter. I started over and I'm glad I did. This book is amazing. Now I'm going to start on the second one.

I'm providing an honest review in exchange for an advanced copy. Tanisha Steweart's "When Things Go Left" is about the complex friendships of six people. Their friendships began in elementary school. Twon grew up with a mom who neglected and abused him. Thankfully, Twon had the support of his friends Hype, Quaid and their cousin. Their parents stepped in to support and nuture Twon, even when his mother did not. After the prelude featuring all the characters, there is a time skip to their middle school, then high school days.
You'll never get a single point of view in the story. Ms. Stewart uses separate chapters to tell her story through the eyes of every single character in the novel. I was impressed with the authenticity and development of her characters. Their voices felt individual and rang true. The only thing is that there is lots of cursing. I feel the book is geared more to an adult audience than a young adult one. I was impressed though, how many of the characters felt like people
Her book deals with many social issues including peer pressure (regarding sexual behavior), police profiling, child abuse/neglect, and youth violence.
I would know in my every day life. I like Stewart's work a lot. I recommend her other short reads too.
