KT Webb is a multi-genre indie author with a twisted sense of humor. Her stories range from dark dystopian worlds to feel-good children's stories. After publishing her first novel in 2014, she has written and released eleven additional projects.

KT feels most at home when creating fantasy worlds or paranormal adventures, but her mind often wanders to show her stories she never planned to write. It is that aspect of being an author that keeps her excited about the industry.

When she isn't writing, KT can be found binge-watching Netflix, playing with her two children, annoying her husband or snuggling her three kitties (Loki, Coal & Blaze).

Four girls from very different lives discover they are part of the Last Coven, brought together to fight evil.

After a slow start, this book hits its stride and from then on you barely have time to take a breath. Appearances by Sprites, Fairies, and all manner of other mythological beings and focusing very much on Celtic mythology, it was a very good read. Plus I always like it when an author gives a shoutout to Supernatural. I would guess that in this case, Dean would approve.

I received a free ebook from the author and I am voluntarily giving an honest review.

Four girls discover their magical destiny...

When a wickedly vengeful woman is about to be set free, ancient Druids must reconvene a coven of witches to fight against the woman and her evil sons. Four teenage girls come into their magical powers on their birthdays and a series of mysterious dreams lead them to each other. Sutton, Grace, Lucy, and Harper must learn to work together and trust only themselves in a game with dangerous rules.

Unfortunately, the last witch of the coven has yet to celebrate her birthday and receive her power. Running out of time, the girls need to perform a ritual to awaken Harper's magic. A quest for ingredients teaches the coven that even their allies may not be trustworthy and they may have to go against the Druids' wishes to defeat the evil plaguing the world.

This book started off well when we were introduced to a teen girl with parental troubles. I liked Sutton and was enjoying seeing her little rebellious streak ensue. Then we're taken from her POV and right into Lucy's. Then it's Grace's and finally Harper's. The bouncing back and forth was a little confusing at times when I had to flip back to the chapter header to be reminded of who I was supposed to be following. I got used to it after a while, though.

This is young adult so you can expect to see the typical teenage woes, bullies, and so forth. So far, this book hasn't hit any romantic tangles so I don't have any complaints in that department. I'm not sure if it will, but you never know. Right now, the story is all about the girls and their preparing to battle against evil.

This book sort of feels like a set-up to what I foresee will be more action in the sequel. Here, we mostly get to know the girls and their reason for coming together. There is a little action here and there with a magical quest thrown in the mix. We get to meet several secondary characters and a few mystical creatures. There was actually quite a bit of magic used despite it all being new to the girls. The plot does slow down here and there but I still finished the book in two sittings so it held my attention.

My only real complaint is that you have to suspend disbelief quite a bit here. Sure, we know magic isn't real (we wish!) and that the chances of gaining magic on your sixteenth birthday are slim to none. That part is easy to understand is fantasy. But the parents and guardians easily sending their kids off to fulfill some unknown magical journey? Yeah, no. Would never happen. I would have found this more believable if the girls were kidnapped by the Druids and forced to do their bidding. Instead of the aunt and parents just waving their teenagers off like it's no big deal. Maybe if they were 18 and couldn't be stopped from leaving, it would make more sense.

In closing...
Fast-paced and somewhat complex storyline with four girls and a fairy or two. Four suns!

Have you every wondered what it would be like to wake up and find you have magical powers? What if the people in your nightmares, both good and evil, were real? If you find these questions enticing, this book is for you.

The main characters are strong willed teenager girls going on sixteen. The problem is that they will receive magical power they know nothing about on their birthday. Strange dark men are chasing them, and they have to find out why. Character development is consistent as the girls learn what it means to work as a group, and be part of a coven. The responsibility of a nation falls on their shoulders, and each one rises up to the occasion with what they have to offer. They also have a fairy and sprite queen, tagging along.

Ms. Webb starts with tension and maintains it at an even keel until she reaches about the middle. She turns up the temperature, and keeps it rises from there. There is no swearing, although there is some violence, but it isn't over the top. The boy/girl thing is absent, although who knows what will happen in book two. While this story has a satisfying end, it does end with a cliff-hangar.

Did you ever wonder what it would be like to wake up on your sixteenth birthday and discover you have magical powers? That is exactly what happens to the four young girls in Webb’s latest. This story follows Sutton, Grace, Lucy, and Harper as they come into their powers and head out on a quest that only they, the Last Coven, can complete.

This is the first book in a new series, and the cliffhanger ending paves the way for the sequel. Various POV’s, as well as numerous mythological creatures (Sprites, Fairies, Druids, and even the Loch Ness monster) come into play. The story starts off a bit slowly, though the pace does pick up and remain consistent throughout the book. It is a bit odd that parents would willingly allow their teenage daughters to go off alone on a magical journey, but if you set that aside, you are left with consistent character development and tension, teenage angst and snark, and an enjoyable story overall. Minor editing errors are present. However, they are not to the point of distraction. There is mild violence, but there is no swearing.

I loved this book! Any book that has a reference to Harry Potter early on is good in my books! (“Turn to page 394.”)

This story was unlike so many YA fantasy stories that are popular today. They often have a girl living in poverty who is suddenly brought to live in a castle (Red Queen, The Selection, Throne of Glass). Though this story is fantasy, it follows a different format.

The pacing of this story was great. The four girls were introduced gradually, so that we get to know them individually. Their story was logical. I had some questions by the end, but this is the first in a series so hopefully they’ll be answered in later books.

I really enjoyed this book! I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the series. Check it out and tell me what you think!

Awakening is a fun story about four teenaged witches who are just discovering their power and that they alone are the last coven of true witches. Each character has a very unique voice and each is fun in their own way. I could easily see myself as a teenaged Harper and I really enjoyed watching each character grow throughout the story. Although I would have liked just a bit more description, the fast paced, intricate plot kept me wanting more. Webb better hurry up and get the next book out because I HAVE TO KNOW IF THEY GET OUT! I would recommend to anyone who likes snarky witches, Celtic lore and relatable characters!
