She’s Hume’n, a member of the lower class, with one chance to change her life…

In an alternate, twenty-first century Boston, Dawn Jamison is a hair’s breadth away from earning her doctorate degree—a degree that would allow her entrance into the upper class, to become the unemotional and self-disciplined Cartesian she is now only pretending to be. To reach her goal, all Dawn must do is overcome her forbidden attraction to the Olympic-class weightlifter Taylor Stephenson who’s just crashed her lectures on past life regression. She must also teach her group of misfit students how to travel back into their past lives—and, oh, of course, figure out how to save the great scientists of the early eighteenth century before they’re inextricably caught up in a time loop.

He’s Cartesian, a member of the upper class, and supposed to know better…

Coerced by his politically powerful, wheelchair-bound brother into spying on Dawn’s past-life regression classes, Taylor knows better than to give into his desire to claim Dawn as his own. But his past-life entity, eighteenth-century Colin, has no such inhibitions. When Taylor and Dawn meet up in Scotland in the 1700s, all the discipline he’s forced on his twenty-first-century self disintegrates in the past, leaving only his overwhelming lust for Dawn’s past-life double, Lily. Unable to escape their sexually obsessive past, Dawn and Taylor find themselves in a race against the clock at the epicenter of a world-altering time quake of their own making.

In Dawn Jamison’s world the people are divided into two castes, Hume’n and Cartesian. Dawn is a Hume’n pretending to be more until she gets her doctorate and can be called a Cartesian. But her mentor, Richard Stephenson is suspicious of her and asks his brother Taylor to check her out. Taylor is confused about his own caste and is surprised at has attraction to Dawn. But Dawn and Taylor have a secret ability that is going to cause lots of trouble with time shortly.

Dawn and Taylor have the ability to travel through time and live in a previous life. Taylor is Colin, a mathematician, and Dawn is Lily, an alchemist. But in this time they are drawn to each other and have no control. There interactions are going to start changing time in present day. I liked the whole concept of time travel and how Dawn and Taylor don’t just visit Lily and Colin. There are other lives and other messes to make and fix.

Now the thing that knocked this book down for me, I’m rounding up from a 3.5, was the confusion. I was very confused as the story bounced around, back and forth, with little direction at times. Once I figured out what was happening then I would get into the story then poof, off again. I also was lost with the caste system. What caused it? Who decided who was what level?

Over all this is a good start to a series. I am curious to see where this goes in the second book. And if you like hot sex scenes, you will really enjoy this story.

I received Entangled from Author Marketing Experts for free. This has in no way influenced my opinion of this book.

Mmmm this might be an actual rating of 2.5
I really wanted to like this book. It had a fun concept, but a lot of it just didn't make much sense. It seemed almost choppy, like we would go from point a to point c with no explanation of point b, or why the characters even wanted to get to point c. Apart from that, a lot of the writing seemed very convoluted and to actually contradict itself. Something would happen in one scene, and then when characters talked about it later, the scene had completely changed. Or, we would be given information that we were clearly not supposed to have (at one point, the main character talks about how one character is a mole for someone else, which was confusing because we didn't know that, and then later there's a big reveal showing that said character is a mole, and the main character is shocked, so I'm thinking the author just forgot that both the reader and the main character weren't supposed to know yet). Or even at some points a scene would open with certain characters in it, and then it was like one of the characters would be forgotten and not mentioned or have any action after a certain point in the scene, like they just disappeared and were no longer there but we were never told that they left. It was a bit frustrating and just made the book more confusing the deeper I got into it, because I didn't know which information was accurate. It almost felt like the author wrote the book and then just published it without reading back through it because a lot of the stuff seemed like it could easily be fixed and then I could be clearer on what was going on.
That being said, it was a fun read. A fun confusing read. I just wish it could have been clearer and maybe more well planned out.

I was lucky enough to receive a copy of this book in a goodreads giveaway.

Here is my honest opinion on this book: At first I thought I wasn't going to make it to the end, I was lost and confused feeling like things had been left out and I didn't understand the difference of Hume'n's and Cartesians and thought I'd missed a previous book. This was my first impression, but I kept reading and once I got passed not originally understanding everything, I really loved the story and the romance hidden within the time traveling and current world. The story is well written, and yes, sometimes the author seems to assume you know everything that has happened in the past, but if you can get passed that this is a great read! I was surprised by the end and really did like the story of this book. I find myself wondering if maybe one day there will be a prequel that describes how Hume'n's and Cartesians came to be and how Dawn and Taylor find themselves where they are at the start of Entangled.

I received this book in a Goodreads giveaway and am providing my honest opinion to other's who may be interested in reading. It's worth the ride if you're willing to put up with the slight confusion of this alternate reality.

Entangled is a fast paced science fiction/steam punk romance. Told in 3rd person, the reader gets to follow Dawn Jamison, a bright young woman, in the lower class caste called the Hume’n, who is on the verge of getting her doctorate degree. By getting that degree, Dawn will be allowed into the upper class, a caste called the Cartesian. Her mentor is a brilliant scientist, Richard Stephenson, who is suspicious of her caste and asks his brother, Taylor, to spy on her. Taylor, an Olympic athlete who is questioning if he really is a Cartesian, agrees….only find out that he is immensely attracted to Dawn.

But Taylor is hiding his own secret….from Dawn and his brother. See, Taylor is able to travel back in time through lucid dreaming and he always ends up in the body of Colin, a brilliant young mathematician in the 1700’s. What he doesn’t know is that Dawn is able to go back in time too and she is Lily, a young female alchemist (aka scientist) and that both he/Colin and Dawn/Lily are going to be caught up in a time vortex brought on by their time traveling….as well as other factors.

***********************************

I really enjoyed reading Entangled. It is the type of book that is slow going, and it was for the first two chapters, but once it gets going, it really captures your attention and imagination. I mean, this world is separated into two castes….the Humens and the Cartesians. The Humens are considered a lower caste, the poor, and they make their life decisions on what can be derived through their senses and emotions and not just their rational minds. Because of their beliefs, the Humens are not allowed to get advanced degrees in anything. Meanwhile, the Cartesians believe that rational thinking and stoic detachment is the only way to get ahead in life and for the most part, they are successful. They are the upper class, the higher caste.

Dawn was one of my favorite characters. She was dedicated to keeping her Cartesian disguise so she could get an advanced degree, something that Humens are not allowed to do. She is a devoted sister to her twin brother, Max and a devoted friend to Naomi, a brilliant young hacker. She also is an expert on past lives and has been chosen to teach a class about them to a bunch of students who are on the verge of failing out but what Naomi is convinced is a think tank of some sort.

Taylor, I was kinda “eh” on at first. I don’t know why I was “eh” on him but I was. It wasn’t until the scenes with his brother that I started liking him and then when he got involved with Dawn, that I really started liking him. I also like that he was questions if the caste he was born into was really for him. I mean, he was an Olympic athlete but he was questioning why he didn’t like looking at himself flexing in the mirror.

The time travel scenes were very interesting in the fact that they took over the body of the person they were supposed to be. Like Dawn was Lily, an alchemist (aka scientist) who really liked the guys and was a witch and Taylor was Colin, who was a brilliant mathematician and who had the hots for Lily. But as soon as they started interacting with other people, the timeline got screwed up…badly. To the point where certain events in history never happened and were replaced with other events….if that makes sense.

The sex scenes between Dawn and Taylor were very steamy. Of course the first sex scene between them was a little awkward and that was only because they were in Lily and Colin’s body. The second time was the same thing except they were at Taylor’s house and they ended up breaking the sexual curse by having sex and achieving orgasm. Everytime after that, though, was very hot and very steamy.

What I really liked, though, was that girl power prevailed throughout the entire book. When one of the secondary storylines went haywire (the Q computer and that’s all I am saying about it), it was Naomi and Rasana, a preteen form Dawn’s class that she was teaching, that made it right. I also like the different spin on the witch burnings and how they were “saved”. (read the book).

The storylines were all merged and ended by the end of the book. They were all pretty much ended on a good note. What I did like was that the author left the book open for book 2.

How many stars will I give Entangled: 4

Why: What I liked the most about this book was the time travel and the steam punk elements in it. The romance was pretty good too.

Will I reread: Yes

Will I recommend to family and friends: Yes

Age range: Adult

Why: Explicit sex and some mild violence

I really wanted to like and understand this book more than I did. At the beginning I almost gave up, I found it to be slow, though it did start to pick up around the third chapter. I found it hard to keep track with on parts, the timeline felt jumbled so I was left confused more than I liked.

Taylor and Dawn, the main characters were well written, they both have complex lives, abilities, desires, conflicts and struggles.

The time travel aspect of this book was different. Normally it’s a case of jumping back and being able to watch yourself – but here, you are jumping into the body you were supposed to be (Dawn into Lily, Taylor into Colin).
The heat was sizzling hot and at times awkward.

Overall it was good, it ended in a way that it leaves things open for a following book.

I enjoyed this book immensely!! It has a Dr Who feel about it with all the time travel. I loved each and every character mentioned and how real people were in the story or characters were based on real people. It's sad that even in the time set there was prejudice that were in place towards witches and how women were not really deemed as important as men. But if you love time travels and romance you will definitely love this book awesome and well worth the read !!

Good Read

I really enjoyed this exciting novel. It is filled with romance and time travel. Finishing it left me feeling bubbly and relaxed. The author did a great job with the main characters in this novel but I did come across a few errors. Still ended up being a delightful book.

Moving and Stimulating Book!
I really enjoyed the story line and the the duality of our human quest represented in this book. To be logical and rational; yet spirit filled and Spirit-led. In many cases those two are at war with each other, but we are both, always! To learn to coexist with both sides of ourselves and thus with the differences in each other is a war we must embrace and win for humanity's sake.

There was a lot of time travel back and forth, past life regression and concern about the effect of changing the past and ripple effects to the future. Interesting to see how the changes made will affect the timeline in the next book.

As an after note it made me think of Star Trek's character 'Spock' and his Vulcan race. So logical and rational, not allowing any feelings to insinuate into their persona; looking down on lowly humans riddled with feelings and passion.

Wow, this is quite the saga. This was my first time reading this author, and I'm glad I did. Entangled embodies its title. Its part Sci-fi, part Time traveler, part Mystery, and part Romance. The story telling is indepth and thorough. Sometimes perhaps a bit too thorough when it comes to the unspoken thoughts of each character, but it gives a lot of insight. When the heroine, Dawn, is first introduced we are given her status, but not what it represents. It leaves the reader constantly looking to figure out the meaning (which is gradually revealed). This style of suggestion continues throughout the book for various circumstances and greatly contributes to the mystery of the book. The hero, Taylor, comes in and creates a great deal of tension (sexual that is) that continues to rise. This theme perpetuates throughout the book as well. The relationship with his brother, the angst between his brother and Merrick, the reason for the think tank, the outcome of all the proposed theories, the relationship between Dawn and Taylor in the 21st century as well as the 18th, all these situations (and more) create a stimulating and interesting juxtaposition. You don't want to put the book down because you can't wait to find out the answers. I have to say, absolutely love Dawn's best friend, she's quite a character.
I will admit that there are some complicated theories a ideas tossed around. I did not find that these detracted from the story. To me it made it more believable. I thoroughly enjoyed this well thought out, fantastically written story through the ages.
This is the firstbook in the Age of Invention series, and I am eager to pick up the next.

What a ride!! The story grabbed me from the first page! Definitely recommended!

I loved this book!! The characters are so well fleshed out that I felt as if I knew them. The wonderful storyline is quite unique and kept me turning pages every chance I got, especially the wee hours of the night/morning. The authors knowledge, along with her own personal (and incredible) history, helped her create a book unlike any I've read before. I dearly loved the complexity of this story. Her knowledge of mathematics, physics, philosophy... all of which she instilled into the characters, made this fascinating read a great pleasure to lose myself in. I look forward to more adventures with the Mathematicians, Alchemists, Witches, Philosophers and the Queen in the Q! Best wishes, and luck, with your Bill Gates of alternate energy and your prodigy!

I love this book it kinda spoke to me when you are on your way to achieving what you have always wanted but things don't always go as planned.
Dawn is on her way to entering the upper class but to do so she must strip herself of all emotion. Taylor is already a member of the second class and knows he shouldn't give into his desire for dawn but how could he not

Circumstances might change, but lust, attraction, compatibility...soul mates last forever, spanning time. When it's meant to be there is no point fighting the inevitable. This romance highlights these facts with a couple ment for one another no matter where they currently rank in society. I couldn't put this one down. Highly recommended!

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
I'm sure this book made sense in the author's head, but it seemed she had trouble converting that to the pages.
Each chapter was a jumble of thoughts. But I hung in there. Wanted to give it a fair shot. It didn't seem to get interesting until halfway through the book. Dawn and Taylor were visiting their past lives, though I couldn't quite understand whether or not Lily was cursing them in the past? There were too many unanswered questions. Some of the chapters ended with a cliffhanger, then fizzled into the next chapter.
Maybe this is just not my kind of read. I like my books to be clear and make sense.
So, I gave it 3 stars.

I am a huge fan of time traveling romances so I loved that aspect of this book. S.B.K. Burns does a wonderful job taking this time traveling theme and making it her own. It's not just time traveling in the traditional sense, more like their minds or souls go into other bodies becoming who they were supposed to be in the past. And then mayhem ensues when they start messing with the timelines. We also get more sci-fi and steampunk themes then what I am used to with time traveling stories (usually historical), but I liked it. It was different! Dawn is also a strong heroine to follow through the story. I always love seeing strong female characters. All in all a fun read. My only negative comment was that it was a bit hard to follow in some areas, however, the author does a great job bringing everything together in the end.
